Irene, forgot to ask, was The Monty Python show fun, it was on at my multiplex but unfortunately couldn't make it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
Irene Trudel:

Hi Everybody! Thanks for asking, Sean. The Monty Python show was Fabulous! More "Broadway" than the TV show, but a good mix of new, old faves, song&dance. I had a good glow afterwards.

Finally got Wfmu to play through the big stereo. This is the best show to take advantage of that, dontcha think.

Hello, Sean! Harry Shearer was complaining about London's heat yesterday. Hope you've cooled down now?

Monty Python: Missed it this go-round, but was so very fortunate to see them at the Hollywood Bowl many moons ago.

@Kat, airconditioning is about as common a rocking horse droppings but coping with this unknown phenomenon, summer! You saw Python live, wow, jealous beyond words. Architect sketch is my fav, "That's what you come to expect from you non-creative garbage, sitting on your .......", etc, etc!
Avatar 12:25pm
kat330:

@Sean: Hard to top the parrot pining for the fjords and the cheese sketch, but I recall they did an especially lengthy bit where they keep topping one another on what a wretchedly poor and pathetic childhood they had to endure. :)

@Irene: Tickled by the cats, bat and, of course, Betty Boop. Did you ever see the cleverly edited Boop video Philo did for my cover of Dylan's "Black Crow Blues"? He's a clever one that Mr. Gristle! :)

I think 'at's a tchotchke rebus right there in the photo. But if you solve it and speak it aloud, it summons you-know-who.
Avatar 12:35pm
kat330:

@still b/p: From the looks of the top row, I'd say solving summons a sommelier? <-- applause for the alliteration, s'il vous plait

ah yes "LUXURY" "when i was your age, we all had to walk 20 miles in bare feet in six feet of snow, carrying our brothers and sisters on our backs!" etc.

Oh man I missed Cocteau Twins. Hi Irene.

@kat, yes indeed! Today's picture is of a tchotchke keeper I have hanging on my kitchen wall.

My dad told younger kids in our family that he rode a bike to school, the trip included a river crossing, he'd remove and fold his clothes, put them in the bike basket, swim across with the bike held up by one arm out of the water above his head.

My mother actually DID walk several miles to go to school. She was valedictorian of a graduating class of 30.

I dunno, to me it had kind of a Japan-ish David Sylvian feel to it
Avatar 1:13pm
kat330:

@Van: I heard some Pastorius on Joni's "Hejira," too. But P.I.G (people in general) have linked Finland and Japan together for a variety of reasons. I think their languages look, if not sound, similar when Japanese is rendered in Arabic characters. And Hawaiian.

2nd week in Sept I'll be there.

And by Japan, I meant the group, of which David Sylvian was a part of. Fantastic group. And then Sylvian went off and made solo masterpieces like "Brilliant Trees" and even better, the double album "Gone To Earth". Just amazing stuff that seems to never get airplay but that's okay. *I* have it :)

The Pythons did Mary Queen of Scots / Penguin in yesterday's show. As great as ever! This record, by the way, was my first introduction to the Pythons. I Have a penguin on my telly to this day.
