In India, independent DIY rock and electronic music-making are still
very new. Rana Ghose of Delhi's REProduce Artists
agency is a key player on India's growing indie scene. In
addition to nurturing a bevy of young artists, he has a notable
veteran on his roster:
Charanjit
Singh, the ex-Bollywood keyboardist who broke new ground with his
early 80s electronic transformation of Indian classical music, Synthesizing - Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat. Rana is bringing
Charanjit Singh to New York for performances on Sunday July 27th (Globalfest,
at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors), and Saturday August 2nd (PS 1's Warm Up). He'll share
Charanjit's story and music and introduce us to some of India's rising
stars.
