Even more of a synchronicity that it was was about Chill Wills, one of the reasons I revisited it was that I wasn't sure who had played that part. I thought it might have been Phil Harris. Chill Wills was appropriately "chilling", an eerily believable homicidal psychopath. And Burgess Meredith was never less than excellent in anything he did, never saw him on stage but they say he was even better there than on film.

New "Eno/Hyde" in heavy rotation last few weeks. And why not, it deserves to be in rotation somewhere, and where else would that happen I ask you?

Pitchfork rates Eno/Hyde an 8.5, so I have to like it.

Some of my favorite records have superlow marks for the PFork guys.

I rate PF at a 3.3 and not worth checking out..

@Ralphine: Wow, 8.5 seems pushing it, but everybody has an opinion.

Pitchfork goes back and changes things they gave poor reviews once they have become critically acclaimed...

V Priceless:

IMO Eno hasn't topped his first four albums in terms of revisiting his great vocals, among other things.
  11:30am
P-90:

I think someone like Eno inevitably gets a bit of a bump in his score in such venues, some extra pointage for his long and respected career. The "lifetime achievement" effect.

@marcel - oh really?!? that's hysterical. (guys guys!! we look wrong.. quick change it change it!!)

@ Marcel: not surprised at all if that's true, some movie critics and music writers have been known to do the same thing

And they give 10s to every OBVIOUS album that has great reviews already.... its dumb. Okay work time bye all

lester bangs used to do it but he was honest about it. he wrote follow-up reviews where he took back his first review.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am

if that is true - and just because it's in wikipedia doesn't make it true - that is completely unethical and shitty and they should die
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am

Its understandable to change ones mind of course. Happens to me all the time. But they should show the edits.

Oh, you can see a lot of backtracking in the "500 Worst Rolling Stone Reviews" article.
Avatar 11:37am
Kurt Gottschalk:

and i haven't read idolator in a long time but i know they used to chart rolling stone's reviews, stars and ads. over and over an album could get a lukewarm review but get four or five stars if it was advertised in the same issue.

P-90:

Totally cool for a journalist to do that, if he cops to what he's doing like Bangs did and doesn't try to blow one by with a "stealth reversal".

revision, in and of itself isn't the worst thing -- but i agree, the original should be preserved. and admitting "mistakes were made".....i think of all the bad first judgments i've made about certain records, etc.....

my favorite was when Jann Wenner wrote this long article where he said his own critics were wrong about the recent Stones and Dylan albums.

Don't know who's backing Montgomery here, but for the first couple of measures I thought WFMU was spinning Trio Sonata, whose reissued records are well worth acquiring: http://www.discogs.com/Trio-Sonata-Clear-Out-Of-Touch-With-Time/release/3177469
