hi Sam
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm common:

hey sam, dce
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm fred:

Hello Sam. It's my first time hearing your show, and this start is making me regret I'm this late on the bandwagon
Avatar 3:08pm duke:

Hello sam and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Dead Mime Walking:

Hey gang! Get ready for another classic Sam Segal summertime southern-fried rock block.
  3:10pm Dean:

Fitting, this track, after discussion on Tony Coulter's stream revolved around the distractions of broadcasting from home when the neighbor is running a lawnmower.
Avatar 3:12pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Sam, and all.
  3:12pm GammarGirl:

Hello, Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Mike East:

@fred - I think its still pretty early in Sam's broadcast career (based on how many previous playlists there are). You will still be considered an early adopter at this point, I think. Plenty of room on the wagon.
Avatar 3:15pm northguineahills:

Digging this lawnmower, continuing the lawnmower theme of Tony's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm fred:

@Mike East: Or as Liars said: there's always room on the broom (how I wish I had a T-shirt of that cover... I guess I should get one made)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Dominick:

Great set Sam !
Avatar 3:24pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

I am saying hello to those of you who are receiving this message.
Avatar 3:24pm duke:

Great start this afternoon.
  3:27pm Greg from Detroit:

Lovin' this show, Sam! Was just in Petoskey a couple weeks ago. Also, just wanna point out that "Father Cannot Yell" is a Can cover! Never heard it before - thanks!
Avatar 3:30pm Bayta:

Absolutely love this Brazilian track. Best of a very promising show so far.
Avatar 3:32pm Nucosme:

Avatar 3:33pm Nucosme:

been listening since the start. nice set so far.
Avatar 3:35pm northguineahills:

Huh, thought the last two tracks sounded familiar, both are really fun albums.
Avatar 3:48pm SiHV:

Hello from Austin.
Avatar 3:51pm Cecile:

hi, all!
Avatar 3:51pm Bayta:

This set is perfection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Dead Mime Walking:

Thank you so much @Bayta!
Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Ralphine:

For some reason, that Acid track reminded me of the Matmos track that was a bunch of surgery noises.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm common:

yea, this is cool shit!
Avatar 4:00pm Bayta:

Here's more - chicodub.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm fred:

I haven't clicky-starred any specific track, just the whole show. The way these two first set were put together was really great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Dead Mime Walking:

Fred, if, in light of that major flub, you want to revoke your star, I wouldn't fault you.
Avatar 4:08pm Bayta:

I'm clicky-starring the shit out of this show, both individual tracks and the whole episode. And no, that minor flub doesn't take anything away from its awesomeness.
Avatar 4:08pm northguineahills:

Good idea Fred, it's hard to keep up. And it's annoying when I miss a great track when I step away.
Avatar 4:09pm duke:

This Ghetto Bros. cut is great
Avatar 4:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

....oh - FlowerTraveling persons - as recommended by Julian Cope
...& also getting a comment in on ground floor of this bespoke broom (must be very large - hopefully w/ a Marvel Comics stylee diagram to navigate by)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm fred:

@Sam: No way. That's part of live shows, I wouldn't have it any other way. My favorite memory of a dance show (and I'm a huge contemporary dance fan) was seeing my favorite dancer slip, fall, and recover.
Avatar 4:13pm Cecile:

I have to find this MX-80. I have the vinyl, but not this track. this was great.
Avatar 4:14pm Cecile:

the original mix of Hard Attack was pretty crappy, looks like they are remastering it right.
Avatar 4:14pm Bayta:

@Revolution Rabbit - Flower Travelling Band's Satori is one of the most perfect records ever. Give it a listen pronto, if you haven't already.
Avatar 4:15pm Cecile:

Sam, is that bonus track available via the digital DL card?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm fred:

@RRN63: It says it's large enough on the label: mute.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Dead Mime Walking:

I grabbed that off of the bonus disc of the superior viaduct CD reissue
Avatar 4:22pm Cecile:

is there a CD reish? I gotta find it.
Avatar 4:23pm Cecile:

It's not really skronk funk. It's more like laser sax and guitars boucing off mirrors.
Avatar 4:25pm Cecile:

damn, how did I miss this reissue? I order stuff from quadruped for pete's sakes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Dead Mime Walking:

Here it is! Right before your very eyes, Cecile: www.superiorviaduct.com...
Avatar 4:30pm holland oats:

& grab some early devo while you're there
Avatar 4:31pm Cecile:

Yeah, I found it! Whole bunch of stuff on Mx-80's quadruped label I also gotta look at. Love that band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Dead Mime Walking:

Put your feet up for this one, folks.
Avatar 4:34pm Cecile:

I want one of everything. please.
  4:36pm Dean:

I think you mean "Kajri." "Kajiri" is Japanese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Dead Mime Walking:

By golly you are right, Dean. Thank you.
  4:38pm Dean:

Strike up a sarangi and I take notice.
  4:40pm bloopy:

beautiful show sam!
Avatar 4:40pm holland oats:

i'm with bloopy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Dead Mime Walking:

Thank you bloopy and holland. This is the friendliest planet I've ever been on.
Avatar 4:43pm Sem Chumbo:

Bloopy, Holland Oats.

the concentration of mental energy on one particular person, idea, or object (especially to an unhealthy degree).

...How I love commenting gratuitously like this ON W-F-M-U !!!...
  5:03pm Dean:

First semester law school, torts, the professor explains why we don't award damages for pain and suffering when personal property is damaged, even if it was a unique ceramic teapot given to you by your great-grandmother on her deathbed: "We don't want people to cathect on mere physical objects."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm fred:

@RRN63: "gratuitous" both means "unwarranted" and "not involving a return benefit". I think most of your comments are of the latter kind. I like words, so I'm biased.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm fred:

@Dean: Did that professor also strike you with a bamboo stick seemingly gratuitously? It reminds me of zen stories more than of damages for emotional suffering claims
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm fred:

@Dean: That's the one I was thinking of: www.ashidakim.com...
Avatar 5:18pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

present. at last.
people. people.
  5:19pm Dean:

@fred: Not at all. In fact, I adore the professor to this day. She was one of the highlights of law school, an entirely pleasant person with an intimidating intellect that was a wonder to behold. I once told her that her classes gave me stomach aches, which is true. But I kept going back for more. The "cathect" comment was completely warranted, too. In one sentence she illuminated a bridge both linking and separating fairness (call it justice) and policy.

Great Zen joke! Reminds me of this one, which has more of a suburban flavor: http://topjokes.blogspot.com/2006/10/cat-on-roof.html
Avatar 5:21pm northguineahills:

Thoroughly enjoyed the show gotta go soon, thanks Same!
Avatar 5:24pm Cecile:

"Velvet Anderson" could be a tribue to Fred Anderson's residency at the Velvet Lounge in CHI in the 90s and 00s.
Avatar 5:25pm Bayta:

What was that segue music you just played?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Dead Mime Walking:

Oh man that's a great call, Cecile. Outside of Taborn (who is from my hometown of Minneapolis), the group is all Chicago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Dead Mime Walking:

That was Uku Kuut off of an album called Grand Hotel. Believe the cut was called Feel So Far.
Avatar 5:28pm Bayta:

Avatar 5:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm fred:

@Dean: Nice joke, and not that far apart from the zen one. Though there are very few women in zen stories, and even then they were only bystanders in those I read. Another reason not to take zen stories too seriously. Which might be the plan anyway
Avatar 5:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Sorry chums, I'm going to have to yay again...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm fred:

@RTD: Yay away man. Personally I just clicky-starred the whole thing and yayed it all for the record. But you've missed so much...
  5:43pm ross:

Dude. How are you reading the playlist from my mind. Jac Berrocal and then this residents album? Amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm fred:

Do you know when this Aaron Novik/Arrington de Dionyso track was recorded? Any more info?
Avatar 5:50pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Dead Mime Walking:

It's a fairly recent release. Its a bandcamp only thing from Aaron Novik: aaronnovik.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 5:54pm Bayta:

Great show, man. Going to be keeping an eye out for your shows in the future for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm fred:

Amazing show Sam! I hope you'll get a regular show, or at the very least many fill-ins
Avatar 5:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...recently read Allan Watts' 'Way of Zen' from 1953; dunno if Reading about Zen sends one straight to a specific place in Hell - do not pass Go or collect $100 - but he covers both history & meaning - & that was one erudite, perceptive, & articulate drunk he was...
Avatar 5:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I still wonder if Mingus & Ra bumped into each other much (or @ all)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Dead Mime Walking:

Thanks for listening, team! I hope to grace these airwaves as much as I can. I'll be back filling in for Liz on Monday from 9-noon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm fred:

Yeah! I'll try to make work allow me to tune in for it all
