Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from August 19, 2014 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

@RRN63: I have no issue with people having massive wealth. I have an issue with people starving with no hope in sight. And making millions from a single isn't an answer. He didn't make that system, he just grew fat on it

@RTD: The last time I saw him he was playing under his own name, spinning records. Awesomeness incarnate. Words must take a vacation, they're not adequate for how good he was. And such a nice guy, for such a total genius
  4:28pm
P-90:

Phil Collins drummed, sang, wrote, recorded, and toured his little ass off (brilliantly) for years with Genesis. That's how he "grew fat" in the music business.

@P-90: I'll admit I was wrong on this. I was really angry at the people who bought that single and thought they had done enough, and that isn't about him. Thanks, it's all too easy to give in to misplaced anger, I appreciate a correction when needed, and it was.

Maybe when people buy a "charity' single, they're thinking they're doing "something" rather than imagining they've done "enough"?
...and why fault any artist who's earned a place in the business where he can be a part of such a thing for doing "something"?

In addition to Montreal's Empreintes Digitales (plural) there is France's L'Empreinte Digitale (singular), a label featuring a catalog of early and "world" musics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
fred:

@P-90: I agree again that I was wrong in questioning Phil Collins' part in this. As for other people... I don't know. I wish I could, but can't argue with you, because I live in France and the situation here is so toxic I can't trust myself to be sane about this topic. Like I was in a checkout line at a low-end chain store today and a disabled guy (with a government issued card) cut in line. A couple of elderly white women started screaming about it, saying that in their days when a nigger dared say no to a while lady, he'd have been beaten up. I was the buffer, being white, and I let him take my place. But it looks dire, and they did tell me I betrayed my race and they would remember it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
fred:

@P-90: I'm emphatically not saying you endorse this. But I'm not sane about it, and that's why

  5:47pm
P-90:

Yes, a lot of us in the US have been watching with UTTER dismay what Revolution Rabbit calls "the swing to the right" in Europe, particularly in the last 3-5 years. It seems so much like the wrong direction taken at the worst possible time. And sorry to say, these "swings" always feel like the stage being set for a trend towards more Fascism, rather than less...
@ fred: May I ask: was this confrontation you saw today in Paris, or someplace smaller, more provincial?
