  7:55am

when i went there was a bunch of churchgoers and nuns marching through the red light district protesting against it... it was a surreal juxtaposition that sort of lightened up the great deal of discomfort we were all feeling walking through it. i didn't visit any coffeeshops i liked much either, same thing: like weird nightclubs where everyone was sat down. we went to this one in the centre that was some four-storey thing and it freakin suuuuuucked. favourite places were the rijksmuseum and also just wandering down those long, straight, beautiful streets. good record shops as well; got a great lp featuring satie's stuff for four-handed piano. and vdp's song cycle!!!

Not condemning the Red Light District on moral grounds at all, I just didn't like it for other reasons. It was uncomfy. I could always find a good place for pot in Amsterdam but that was 10 years ago.

It's not the best idea to go by train in Germany.
too expensive!
For Amsterdam-Berlin get a flight!
Actually I'm kinda ashamed to say that, since I don't like the idea of cheap airlines ... economy-wise.
Avatar 8:02am

You're right, Guido. Deutsche Bahn is a scam. Fly for one and a half hours, you'll save at least 100 euro.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am
Meghan:

I went to Dampkring.... (or something like that.....) It was much chiller and a cooler vibe. Yeah, I don't care about prostitution, just the uncomfy feeling of being surrounded by horny tourists.... It's my NYC vibe, not to stay in places that make your hairs stand on end....

Last time I did the Bahn was back in 1990, from Bonn to Berlin.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am
Guido from Cologne:

Die Deutsche Bahn was already expensive 1990.
Avatar 8:10am
HarktheUmpire:

Deutsche Bahn have some new tricks up their sleeves now. You can't order train tickets online and travel on your passport. You need a creditcard or European ID-card. Last time I travelled, I had neither because I assume travelling is what passports were made for. So they made me buy new tickets. I ended up paying 250 euro to get from Berlin to Aachen. I'm still fuming over that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am
Meghan:

oh that is messed up!

Van Gogh was no go?? (museum that is) Awww, I really hope you do get back and, yes, it's an easy train ride from Paris to Amsterdam. This archive is awesome, Meghan, as all my star clicks attest. Welcome back to US -- dank je wel and asante!
