Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

thank you for listening to this episode of the dusty show on wfmu. this one was recorded in manhattan's union square park the night before the show aired. the interviews were recorded digitally, which is something i haven't done very often, however, i was in the mood to try this sony recorder i got a while back that has been sitting lonely upon my shelf. it was fun to hear everything clearly for a change, unlike the microcassette which tends to distort all the s-sounds. i may or may not continue to use the digital in the future. the flea market finds are from upstate, where i went on a vinyl hunting excursion and general weekend with fabio and our wives. a great time was had by all. i particularly enjoyed the karen beth and i see that she has surfaced again in the woodstock area and has a website. i liked her sound. the innocents was interesting, too. so there you go ... another show. summer almost at an end. i have NO idea who you are or where you are. i don't get a whole lot of email. it's more facebook communication on the pigeonnaires page than anything these days, but not enough radio talk. check in if you like - dusty@wfmu.org. it's always good to hear from you. take care and always remember ... michael brown

Clay I'm at the vet with my dog Hutch so I can't listen until later, but just wanted to share this MLK excerpt from a speech he gave at Stanford in 1967: "I think America must see -- riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. In the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard." - MLK Jr., Stanford University, 1967

@glenn: Much like there are tests online intended for native-born U.S. citizens, to "see if YOU can pass the citizenship test"--that naturalized citizens have to know. A similar kind of test to see if "YOU would be allowed to adopt", to raise awareness.

Well, it depends, potable water isn't a fungible commodity. If you're in a region that is in a drought region or one that depends on well water, then yes, it's a waste of water (most of the US). Otherwise, said waste is negligible. (ie: NYC reservoir fed water resources [everywhere except south Brooklyn, south Queens, and Staten Island])

Way to pop the levity balloon.

@ngh: I was speaking of the social media repeating the images over and over for the world to witness waste -- which it *still* is -- not whether the image comes from a region where water is plentiful. California's in a serious drought, yet I bet 70% or more of the bucket drenching is happening among its "celebs."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
dale:

pontiac 6000? can't he reference something from this millenia?
Avatar 6:43pm
glenn:

yeah, every ten cent cucumber from california probably consumed fifty bucks worth of water.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

@steve: "Tarzan Boy" was a novelty from my younger years, but Italo-disco is basically a prerequisite of crappy 90s "dance" music, as opposed to grooves and hooks of the earlier more "disco" sound.

Moroder I consider "Italian", not "Italo-".
