	♥ 9:42am Marcel M: @Joe: I enjoyed it indeed! Was nice to see the new space. I also actually hung out in JC that day because my friend lives there. And what did we do? We went to the Newport Mall because my wife has never been to a mall. We lasted about ten minutes and then fled the scene.

	♥ 9:47am Marcel M: @BOB: Malls hit Europe in a big(er) way around when she left and most people still don't really go to them. Its part of that American suburban sprawl imagery so she wanted to check it out. She expected it to be bad but we all had this image that it would be kinda fun. It just wasn't the same without the deeper Jersey experience of getting stuck in traffic on Route 4 and then experiencing the wonders of a massive mall parking garage hehe.

	9:50am Cecile: ah, got it. Also, a mall that is indeed kinda fun is Water Tower Place in Chicgao. everything is transparent - the floors outside of stores, the elevator. I say kinda because while I was admiring the architecture, I also have a ridiculous fear of heights.

	♥ 9:52am Marcel M: Well to be fair, in North Jersey, strip malls are so plenteous that there does happen to be good places in them. I mean think about it Bob most all Pizza places are in strip malls.
	9:52am Cecile: well, there's prolly some chain garbage, but it looks cool. Like cubic zirconium in a hand carved setting.
	♥ 9:53am Marcel M: Its like that in LA too... with cool clubs and bars. Someone is like, "Lets go to this great place!" and you pull into a strip mall like whaaaat? And yeah, it is actually a cool place.

	9:54am Cecile: yeah, there are some kickass places in strip malls here - two of my favorite Chinese restaurants.
	9:54am bobdoesthings: OHHHH "STRIP" malls.. that's just a bunch of stores next to each other.. I read it wrong. I thought you meant Mall food court food.. yuk . Yeah some of the best pizza and bagel places and local spots are wedged inbetween a bunch of stores..

	♥ 9:55am Marcel M: Growing up in NJ I also thought that Highways were littered with stores and restaurants everywhere else in the country. I would drive out to 17 from the city with friends from elsewhere and they would always be amazed by the strip mall paradise along the way...

	♥ 10:04am Marcel M: But the big "indoor" malls have no ceiling. So they are basically outside, since the weather is so nice.

	10:08am adrian in mpls: I do have to say there have been a couple of times folks have visited me and wanted to see the mall of america -- and they seem very disappointed that it's just A REALLY BIG MALL. Not some transcendent commondity experience, or even a Vegas-style refracted spectacular-consumptive wonderland.

Not their fault or a legit complaint against them, but since they are pretty mainstream, a lot of their sounds are attributed to being quite unique to them, when in face, wise WFMU listeners like us, know they are not.

Its part of that American suburban sprawl imagery so she wanted to check it out. She expected it to be bad but we all had this image that it would be kinda fun. It just wasn't the same without the deeper Jersey experience of getting stuck in traffic on Route 4 and then experiencing the wonders of a massive mall parking garage hehe.

Not their fault or a legit complaint against them, but since they are pretty mainstream, a lot of their sounds are attributed to being quite unique to them, when in face, wise WFMU listeners like us, know they are not.
