Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Doug Schulkind:

Beats me, Gary. I remember hunting for an answer last time I played this record.
  9:45am doca:

Hey, Doug! Toni Tornado! I'm busy but let me say: he became a major TV star in the 80's and the 90's, specially on Brazilian novelas. His musical career was cut short, however, when at a concert he attempted some kind of mosh and accidently killed a girl attending the show. Afterwards he didn't record again.

This song however was a huge hit when it came, my mom still loves it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Webhamster Henry:

Cuica is an acceptable Autoharp substitute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Doug Schulkind:

I know that Tornado won a national contest in Brazil in 1970 with that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Doug Schulkind:

I know this because I can Google-Translate Wikipedia's Portuguese pages like a champ.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:46am Brian in UK:

Could I guess that the B is Brazil or Brazilian?
  9:46am doca:

Yeah it goes on the tradition of Wilson Simonal, I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

Also just read that Tornado was arrested after making a black-power fist salute from the stage at an Elis Regina concert. In order to be released, Tornado had to sing BR3 for the police.

Is this TRUE, doca?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Doug Schulkind:

A QUESTION FOR ALL
Can anyone detect an improvement in the audio fidelity of today's show? The wonderful Jeff Moore, tech guru at WFMU, sent me some equipment to help clean up the audio in the transmission chain from my computer to the stream. I hear an improvement on my end for sure. (I also hear the imperfections of some of the crappier MP3s I'm playing.)
  9:53am sinner:

Doug--I noticed immediately. Much crisper.
Avatar 9:54am northguineahills:

it's louder (just using my laptop speakers as it's too early to put on the hi-fi)
  9:54am doca:

It seems better for me too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Andrew Waterloo:

Not sure, I'm working with laptop speakers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Doug Schulkind:

@sinner

@NGh
The new equipment (and a tweak to my settings) probably allows me to play it all a little louder with distorting. Not sure about that, but I guess that to be true.

@duke
Andrew W is correct, Sex and Broadcasting is the new title. There was an advanced screening back at WFMU. I haven't seen it, but I have it on good authority that a late-1980s version of yours truly can be spotted in some archival footage.

Avatar 10:22am Jeff:

Whatever can be done to encourage Monica to play music for us must be done.

Doug, I'd encourage you not to push the levels through your A/D or out to the stream hotter than usual just because what's coming out of your playin' computer is cleaner... your lovely songs on your stream are louder than Chris M's wall of crunchy doomy metal on the WFMU stream. The WFMU stream's levels are actually pretty nicely judged for good sound.
Avatar 10:24am Jeff:

"Sex and Broadcasting" is a book about community radio which was very important to Ken and others.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Doug Schulkind:

Advice well taken, Jeff. I am still using my Audacity visuals on my streaming machine to monitor levels. (Another part of operation I owe to you.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Andrew Waterloo:

@duke, unfortunately I'm finding some of the Kickstarter movies take a long time and they're not very good at sending updates on Kickstarter. I just found out one of he movies I invested in had a screening, and I will probably find out they had a local one in their next update.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Doug Schulkind:

I see curried goat all the time at my local Indian restaurant. Never got up the nerve to even taste it.

Ah, but did he make it into the brandy-new DSM-V? I'm guessing he's listed under the Obsessively Listenable Radio section. No known cure!
Many thanks for the obsessively listenable show, Doug!
