Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from September 19, 2014 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Did anyone hear/see the supposed orchestra of crickets (or maybe it was Cicadas) where they slowed the recording down and it sounded as if the insects were all singing along in this one eerie melody? Turns out it was manipulated/fake.. from what I recall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Sem Chumbo:

Isn't there an morally questionable appropriation of arthropod rhythms going on here?

Do insects have agents?

Avatar 12:35pm

i seem to remember a record of frog sounds on smithsonian/folkways, by a noted herpetologist, that later turned out to be partially faked.....

'seems like the majority of "relax to the sounds of nature" recordings are (very obviously, usually) synthesisers.

ugh.. tried to find the original hoax crickets slow-ed down on youtube but now all I can find are videos de-bunking them..

@coelacanth which is totes fascinating, given the ways in which relaxation tapes are "supposed" to represent nature. field recordings don't always have that best order/disorder ratio

My friend Anne in Maastricht, who listens a lot, when I told her more female commenters would be good: "The thing about commenting is that part of the joy of radio, in my humble opinyin, is the absence of all the social network business. You can just listen to the radio without having to feed back. Although in theory I'm all for a diverse ecosystem of commenters." Well now her anti-comment IS A COMMENT! HA!
