Classic rock Eno - always a pleazh to hear!

Evening Therese! Evening listeners!
Avatar 12:06am BadGuyZero:

Good evening/morning.
Avatar 12:06am KP:

Hi ya, Therese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am pacific standard simon:

The production on this record sounds so '70s!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Therese:

Hiya! Thanks for stopping by!
Avatar 12:10am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'Another Green World' was - for whatever reason - a CD my copy of which was always beat up
- do you have albums like that ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am pacific standard simon:

Well, I've had several copies of Raw Power; after a while, I think they started pressing them on the same stuff that Halloween wax lips are made of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Matt from Springfield:

CD-Rs especially, cheap little facsimiles moved around a lot and scratching easily from use.
  12:16am Steve-O:

Hiya, Therese! I hope you're doing well tonight. =)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Andrew Waterloo:

I've seen my share of wafer thin records as well.
Avatar 12:17am BadGuyZero:

Flexi discs
Avatar 12:20am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...oh - CDRs...rejected by various players - got some that just...peeled...
- always think that back in the day - w/ crap little record players - I could just look @ an LP & tell which ones the tone arm would just skate on (too much Bass - too long on one side / mastered badly); still lovin' BlackSabbath digitally for this reason...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am pacific standard simon:

There was this thing called a "PVC shortage" around '73 or '74. RCA records were notorious. If you get an original edition of Lou Reed's Rock And Roll Animal, it flops around like a worn out stuffed animal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am pacific standard simon:

Old Nilsson records, too.
Avatar 12:22am BadGuyZero:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am pacific standard simon:

There you go, BGZ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am pacific standard simon:

Hey, Leonard Cohen's turning 80!
Avatar 12:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Joyeux 80th (!!!) ♍Virgoan Solar Return Leonard Cohen !!

...think of Nick Cave saying that others on Cohen tribute album were all so po-faced: much Humor in Leonard's stuff !...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am Matt from Springfield:

WOOOOO! HBD L. Cohen! Sincerely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am pacific standard simon:

I hope he's keeping an archive of spoken word recordings, for when he doesn't need to use music to sell CDs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am Matt from Springfield:

People will vote - if the question *really* matters...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am pacific standard simon:

Other favorite 80-year-olds, this year: Shirley Jones and Harlan Ellison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am Matt from Springfield:

A hard drop, or just a short little drop that shouldn't have done that to modern equipment??
Avatar 12:31am BadGuyZero:

Did you go see The Replacements?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am pacific standard simon:

We know all about you and ladders, Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am Matt from Springfield:

Hey! That's the "Matt from Springfield Record Library"!! As its adopter I say to whomever is bringing and leaving junk: KEEP IT CLEAN AND CUT THAT OUT!!!
  12:34am KP:

Is it still there? Asking for a friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Matt from Springfield:

And PIZZA?! There is no library, anywhere, of any type that I know of that allows food among its collection. 'Specially not PIZZA!!
Avatar 12:35am BadGuyZero:

Weird Al is going to record a song called "Pizza Leaver" to the tune of "Dream Weaver."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: FTW! :)
Avatar 12:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mars is 1,000 times further than the Moon - as if you'd want to live either place ! You gonna move seven billion people there ? We need to stop pooping in our own doggydish. Did you like hurricane Sandy ? Katrina ? New & Improved tornados, droughts...yeah - them nutty irrational weirdo protesters...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am pacific standard simon:

Is that what you did to Dave?

I bet the pizza-leaver was someone who used to follow your show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am sugarwolf:

Sausage pizza is super treyf! Meat + dairy!
  12:36am feral parsnip:

The cleaning gnomes in the cieling have to be fed, and they're not picky.
Avatar 12:36am BadGuyZero:

<singing> Pizza leaver
Why do you leave behind a single slice </singing>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am pacific standard simon:

Now you've done it, Matt...
Avatar 12:37am BadGuyZero:

NEW INVENTION: Pizza leaver lever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Matt from Springfield:

@PSS 12:36: I considered that, though I think Mr. A is the type to BOAST on air about leaving that pizza and box, but too high-strung to do it himself. (Being nervous about messing up the board in front of Scott Williams, for example).
  12:40am KP:

Pizza leaver never left. Passed out among the EPs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am Ken From Hyde Park:

I would think the station policy would be to prohibit food from the record library in the first place. Who wants pizza grease or crumbs in the Jandek records?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am Matt from Springfield:

@KP: Perhaps Bryce (Prefontaine) found his way in the library and passed out: "Ohhh mannnnnnn...where am I? And who took away my pizza box? I was gonna make a high-quality snuff box out of that!"...
  12:42am KP:

Jandek collection has its own pizza proof library
Avatar 12:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& it's own zip-code suffix...
  12:46am feral parsnip:

What probably happened is, the cleaning gnomes got too full.
A personal pan pizza or microwave-size pizza is probably just enough for a few gnomes to snack on. Some Hot Pockets would work, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Ken From Hyde Park:

I can relate to your iPad story, Therese. My son dropped my beloved flip-phone on Saturday and it broke in two at the hinge. So I have an Android now. The good part is the WFMU app I can now utilize.
  12:48am feral parsnip:

You don't want your cleanup gnomes sacked out from the itis.
Avatar 12:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 12:54am ! I X Key !:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Matt from Springfield:

Well, this is a Lou Christie back-catalogue track! Never heard of this before, actually pretty good!

Happy Equinox RRN63 and Seasonal folk! I for one look forward to Autumn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am pacific standard simon:

I wish I could fix my eyes by buying new ones for a few hundred dollars. Right now, reading is semi-hard work because my eyes are old.
Avatar 12:57am BadGuyZero:

All I can think about is what this Lou Christie track would have sounded like if Klaus Nomi had covered it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am pacific standard simon:

Heh. I had this song on my mp3 player at work this afternoon. The whole DJ premium, in fact!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am pacific standard simon:

@BGZ - imagine what Tiny Tim could have done with it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am Tome:

Helllloww Therese !
  1:05am Steve-O:

Wait, really? THAT Joel Hodgson? Okay.....mind blown. I *loved* MST3K. =D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am pacific standard simon:

Yeah - I used to live next to an apartment that blasted Hole's Live Through This all the time. I used to lean out the window and holler, "YES WE KNOW! IT'S A GREAT RECORD! NOW SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am Matt from Springfield:

There are only 6 listed here, apparently Virgil lists 8 in the Aeneid. Searching...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am Matt from Springfield:

@PSS: A "bjork" hot dog I hope?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am Matt from Springfield:

@Tome: Pretty good--I'm more likely to Snoopy Dance FROM the coffee pot! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am pacific standard simon:

My "Snoopy" is staring at me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am Tome:

... does not look like Lou Christie ffs ,, was told that once I do NOT see it ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am Matt from Springfield:

Wow! Gene Pitney auf Deutsch! "Stay With Me".

Therese: Bringing all the Deutsch that's fit to...uh...Sploitch!
Avatar 1:41am egal:

Not very good Deutsch though ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Matt from Springfield:

Probably read phonetically, like most Yanks recording in Auslandspräche in those days :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am pacific standard simon:

Better than most teenagers' grasp of English on the internet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am Matt from Springfield:

@PSS: I cn hz Ingilish??!!11!!!!11
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am pacific standard simon:

I thought about making a a podcast of English-singing singers, singing in German, but did not follow through. It was a thing, for a while, in the '60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am Matt from Springfield:

Plenty of Euro-language covers of English singers in the 60s. Also the other way around, but those are so numerous as to have no real theme linking them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Gaylord Fields:

In the Sixties, (Little) Peggy March had what essentially a parallel career singing in German for that market.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Matt from Springfield:

Not only that -- the Rootbeer Station - of the NATION! :)
Avatar 2:06am BadGuyZero:

Peter Gabriel recorded German-language versions of a couple of his solo records. David Lee Roth recorded a Spanish-language version of "Eat 'Em & Smile." Johnny Cash also recorded Spanish versions of some of his songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am Matt from Springfield:

So practically every release had a corresponding German equivalent, similar catalog number and all?
Thanks Gaylord, subject matter expert on these and other things!
Avatar 2:10am BadGuyZero:

Melvins do a rockin' little version of "Now I'm Here."
  2:10am P-90:

YAY! The Boys at the Rainbow.
Hi Therese! ...and all the Sunday night (ir)regulars.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am Gaylord Fields:

Actually, with Peggy March, it was diffeent from the days when she recorded "I Will Follow Him" (itself an anglicized version of Petula Clark's French hit "Chariot") in German, Italian, Japanese, etc. Rather, she recorded original German-language songs with German producers as if she was a native pop star.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am Matt from Springfield:

The Na(h)sty Queenies never left! :D

@Gaylord: Like a "dual-national pop star"? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am Matt from Springfield:

"It's All Over Now, Terror of the Deep"!
  2:16am harmonicpulse:

Hello DJ Therese! Just as the amazing playlist, your voice is a comfort to my ears no matter what difficulties you may have finding proper pronunciation at this unG-dly hour!
Avatar 2:20am BadGuyZero:

Fancy lads.
Avatar 2:20am harmonicpulse:

Whats the song playing in the background while Therese speaks?
Avatar 2:21am BadGuyZero:

"Pling" by Shuggie Otis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am Matt from Springfield:

What BGZ said!

Therese's voice is a comfort to all our ears! And her presence on mic a comfort in general!
  2:23am P-90:

I know that "Queen/Rainbow" sounds SO good because ace Roy Thomas Baker engineered the original recordings, I'm not sure but I assume he probably also did the new mix; so it's a marriage of state-of-the-art '70s analog magic on one end, and up-to the-minute-digital control on the other, all done by the same guy. Kind of a Rock n Roll time warp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am Gaylord Fields:

@Matt from Springfield: So much so that she even represented (West) Germany at Eurovision in the Seventies (listen post-Therese, please):

Avatar 2:24am harmonicpulse:

@BadGuyZero , thanks! Not surprised those vibes came from such an enlightened soul as Shuggie!

@MattfromSpringfield , right on man -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am Matt from Springfield:

Thx Gaylord!
Right on, harmonicpulse!
  2:31am P-90:

Maybe that studio could have a proximity-sensor alarm that would silently warn the DJ On Duty when someone is "sneaking up" on her/him...
Avatar 2:34am harmonicpulse:

I can understand how being anywhere but in your bedroom @ 2AM can be creepy
Avatar 2:40am BadGuyZero:

It probably doesn't help that the only TV in the studio shows "Alien" and "Aliens" on a non-stop loop.
Avatar 2:42am harmonicpulse:

@BadGuyZero rofl, that's cruel and unusual punishment.
  2:49am P-90:

I hear it gets even spookier later on when Frank O'Toole appears in a puff of purple smoke
  2:55am P-90:

...Talk about '70s analog magic! I always forget how masterfully she double-tracked the vocal too...
Avatar 2:56am BadGuyZero:

Stan appears in a puff of smoke. I've seen it with my own eyes.
Avatar 3:00am BadGuyZero:

Have a great week, everyone! See you back here next time.
  4:44am Steve-O:

Anyway, great show tonight, Therese. See ya later! =)
  11:37am Dave:

This is a killer playlist. Thanks bunches.
