When a friend in high school introduced me to Jimi Hendrix, I thought the songs were decent, but that one in particular was the one that really hooked me in.

Hi Julie. Perfect music for a chilly Autumn morning. Are they playing live 'live' and can you ask them if they have any plans to play the UK yet? Thanks!
Avatar 🦇 4:46am
Julie:

Sorry they aren't, don't ask people to come at 3am. I think they only play locally at this point. I'll tell them they ought to though!

Hi Sullivan! It's rainy and DARK on the east coast of America, so good to know you also have weather that syncs with this set!

Julie, been listening of 15 mins or so, has a very different feel to last week, are you in a different mood?
Avatar 5:19am
Matt from Springfield:

@listeningcat: That's the beauty of this (and most other FMU shows)! Different moods on different weeks, and different moods within a show as well! Certainly not predictable!
Avatar 🦇 5:19am
Julie:

Is it? what did I do last week, I don't remember
Avatar 5:22am
Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: The catacombs - I would love to explore the underground network (and the cavern cafes and bars too!) A horror movie was recently set down there- don't know if it was any good, but that would be a great setting for it!
Avatar 🦇 5:22am

Before or after you started this show? Awesome if that was a shout out! :)
Avatar 🦇 5:27am
Julie:

after but it is pure coincidence
Avatar 5:27am
listeningcat:

Julie, last week e.g. Bee Gees "The Earnest of Being George". This week sounds a lot darker. Is this the effect Lala land had on you?
Avatar 🦇 5:28am
Julie:

No, it was really to complement the band that were my guests.
Avatar 🦇 5:28am
Julie:

And this show is often dark ;)
Avatar 5:29am
listeningcat:

Ah, sorry I've not caught up yet.
Avatar 🦇 5:30am
Julie:

that's okay. My show is all over the place, that's the beauty of freeform. Next week it will be all different because it will be Nick, then the next it will be Kate Bush-y
Avatar 5:31am
Matt from Springfield:

Wind and Wuthering - your fave Genesis album IIRC? Early Phil, when he still had the sound of Peter. A unique time in the band's history.
Avatar 🦇 5:31am
Julie:

Yes indeed, first one I ever had. A boy I liked turned me onto it :)
Avatar 5:32am
listeningcat:

Julie - Nick?
Avatar 🦇 5:32am

I'll be away, Nick the Bard will be filling in
Avatar 5:33am

Avatar 🦇 5:34am
Julie:

aww I'll be back. And Nick is fun. totally different but fun.
Avatar 5:35am
Matt from Springfield:

Boys: sometimes we turn you on to Genesis, and sometimes we leave you in the catacombs ;)
Avatar 5:38am
Matt from Springfield:

@listeningcat: That's the key: "totally different"! Incessant variety! But that's what great about our Archives, when you find an episode of something you like you can listen to it again and again! :)
Avatar 5:38am
Matt from Springfield:

"Wots...uh the deal" is that the actual spelling on the album? I ♥ that title!
Avatar 5:38am

well the catacombs is one of the gothic place I can think about.
and, non I haven't seen the movie, but I will, and will tell you.

Avatar 5:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Fascinating observation, P-90. I suppose a musicians departure from a band can be more damaging than a frontman leaving.

The 80s Genesis is essentially a label for the "good" Phil Collins songs (besides his first solo album Face Value, which includes "In The Air Tonight", I tend to not like Phil Collins released under his own name).
Avatar 5:48am
Andrew Fetter:

Well, back to work for me. Great show today Julie. Enjoy London!
Avatar 5:49am
DeaconDave:

So Steve Hackett made his exodus?
Avatar 5:53am

The world is flooding and we all live by the river!...
Avatar 5:55am
Matt from Springfield:

The last half-set, anyway...

Hey Meghan!
Avatar 5:56am
Matt from Springfield:

Sounds like you need another joint Dark-Park vacay, to London! :)
  5:56am
P-90:

@Matt: Everyone in that band contributed to the writing. Without Hackett, they were maybe one writer AND one player too few. Hackett's genius is evident in that Spanish guitar intro to "Blood..."
Collins was always a singer, he sang great harmonies with Gabriel, and he'd been onstage since he was a kid and stepped up as lead singer/frontman, the only guy in the world who could've replaced Gabriel. His first hit as a solo was "In the Air Tonight", VERY much a Gabriel-type tune in conception, arrangement, vocal performance, etc. And all downhill from there, you're right about that.
