Morning Meghan!

So, I'm still catching up with this - are you still going to have another show after this one, or is this a break from WFMU for a while?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44am
listener james from westwood:

@Ken: Likewise. I don't listen to Shut Up, Weirdo, but I like that 2 women have a show like theirs. I did a quick count of the women now on the schedule. 16 on air, plus Amanda on GTDR and Debbie D on Ichiban. Further losses would be sad. I know women listen and are into diverse, freeform music, based unscientifically on the Record Fair turnout. But I don't have an immediate solution to improving the gender split.

I blow hot and cold on talk shows, b/c they're only as good as their callers.

So ... women DJs will be welcome only when they are screaming and cursing and gossiping and doing everything except playing music?

@RR: And the main point is the time slot hierarchy, not just numbers in general.

It would be a challenge to do a swear-show and leave all Punk Rock off ...

The micvrophone-only shows often do not really work for non-native speakers. Large parts of the humor get lost.

Hey, Meghan. Yup, could not resist. Hope it is not too creepy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am

Schedules change twice a year. The next one will happen in a few weeks and then it will change again in June. All the DJ's apply for a slot/slots that they would like and what they are willing to do. Ken takes all of the requests (which is no small task as there are about 70 slots on each schedule and more than that of DJs that want one of those 70 slots) and fills in the slots. Some don't change as those DJs have been on air for ages.... Like Jones and X Ray will never move.... ever (nor do I want them to!)

...it would be hard to accuse FMU of not presenting a Variety - & it has brought us so many incredible Programs; also - the Scheduling often shows great insight on what should follow what in terms of flow...probably every one of us would construct a different Sched. if we could...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14am

One bummer about losing Scharpling, is that there's less chance for Aimee Mann to call in or show up. Was great to have her as a participant in the station.

Talk shows work in cars, where you cant do anything else but listen. FMU has a very small area in which it can be received over air in cars. FMU and it's music is a backdrop. That its DJs (most) have personality is a huge plus but i dont want to hear them fighting with each other and "gasp" callers. Ugh!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am
listener james from westwood:

@Rev: FMU has introduced me to more women performers than I can count, both on record and as live acts in the station, so I'll be thankful for that till I'm topsoil. I think another spot where women could be included more is in Monty Hall. With a city of talent one train or car ride away, there's got to be lots of women (e.g., the Gal Pals a couple of weeks back on Gary's GTDR show) who can play at the station for live audiences, on air or off.
