When I attended Boston College, MIT always felt like this super-advanced chunk of the future, thrumming away on some sort of advanced power source on the other side of the Charles. That I'd read "The Media Lab" shortly before freshman year likely seeded this idea in my head.

If I did a show about colostomy bag sterilizing, I bet Jesse could come up with his own hour of tunes on the subject. In fact, I bet he has.

@Doug: Is there some way to make an alternative GTDR music file for when the internet connection is not colaborating? I think of something like the 32k streaming of WFMU main channel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Doug Schulkind:

@doca
An excellent idea in theory, but every new stream and alt stream that gets introduced required a bunch of extra work. Not sure WFMU has the resources to manage it.
Avatar 7:22pm
Jesse K:

at one point while prepping this show I did consider: I could just play Sucession's Touch parts 1-4

thankfully for everyone's sake I thought again

Do any of guys grew up in the 90s and remember that Battletoads video game? It had a remix of "Can't Touch This" on its soundtrack
Avatar 7:42pm
Jesse K:

I remember that game but I can't recall the song at all... I'm not sure if I played it much
Avatar 7:42pm

I played it a few times, but it was impossible. I don't remember the remix.

Avatar 8:05pm

@Doug and Jesse: I just remembered that in the state I live here in Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), there is a town called Não me toque, which translates as "Don't touch me"
Avatar 8:05pm

I find that when I 'behave' and don't drink when I'm sick on the weekend, that I stay sick longer. When I do drink, I'm almost 100% better come Monday.

I'm looking over my health plan options for 2015. I'm interested in the ones that provide cheapy generic antibiotics, in case I get the every-few-years upper-respiratory/sinus infection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Uncle Michael:

Make sure you get one with a competent Death Panel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...*groan* - I've never taken antibiotics for a 'cold' before...they only work on bacteria - not viruses, don't they? The beer cure surprises me too - as I think of beer as 'Cold' - like even in a Chinese Med. sense ; would go for hot toddies or even something anise-y & frightening like Jager or absinthe...
Avatar 8:56pm
Jesse K:

I was pretty sure you said cheap generic antirobotics, which is probably not something we have to worry about for a year or so at least
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..yes - absinthe - & w/ this music it would be a green fairy Rave for sick people - dancing their way into the robot revolution...

I thought MIT was supposed to be good at the internets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm

Buncha damn MIT dropouts. They'll likely all found Fortune 50 tech companies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Gary:

Jeff!
Avatar 9:14pm
Jesse K:

thanks Gary, I'm all kinds of discombobulated. MIT's not underwriting this show I should mention, they don't condone it in any way. I'm a hanger on to the infrastructure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm

Skips aside, the show has been great. Enjoyed the 2nd hour of touch-y content too.

Doug Schulkind:

Jesse, are you hardwired to the router, or connected via wifi?
Avatar 9:29pm
Jesse K:

I'm wifi now Doug, I was having a hard time connecting to the router, those were the first dropouts so I disconnected.
Avatar 9:31pm
Jesse K:

oof, this connection isn't good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
Doug Schulkind:

Hard to believe, but I connected my streaming computer via Wifi for the first few years I was doing the show remotely. Then, during a particularly dodgy show—not uncommon during the early years—a listener asked if I was hardwired to my router. Doing that eliminated maybe 80% of my connectivity issues.
Avatar 9:40pm
Jesse K:

I believe it, I'm wired in 90% of the time. This network is super robust during the day
Avatar 9:43pm
northguineahills:

It's like a reverse of Space's "Fly",
Avatar 9:45pm
Jesse K:

totalllly cash in. They turned around a couple notes in a month or two
Avatar 9:47pm
Jesse K:

from their discogs page: Kébekélektrik was a studio project conceived and overseen by Pat Deserio, who hired local keyboard wiz and University of Montreal philosophy student Gino Soccio to craft a disco record containing four songs: an arrangement of Maurice Ravel's "Bolero", a popular cover of Space's "Magic Fly", and two original compositions, "Mirage" and "War Dance"—the latter becoming an unexpected dancefloor hit. Although Deserio oversaw the project and has co-writing credits, Soccio performed every note.
