Nikhil P. Yerawadekar & Low Mentality: From Afrobeat to Ethio-Grooves and Everywhere in Between

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player! | Add or read comments

Nikhil P. Yerawadekar spread his wings with leading lights of New York's Afrobeat Revival like Antibalas and Akoya Afrobeat - but that's just a starting point. His high-octane band Low Mentality adds rock, reggae, calypso, hip-hop, funk and more to the mix. And they explore classic East African grooves in their collaboration with Ethiopian keyboard great Hailu Mergia.

Nikhil and Low Mentality rock WFMU live tonight ahead of shows at NuBlu, 62 Ave C in the East Village on Friday December 19th, and with Hailu Mergia at Baby’s All Right , 146 Broadway in Brooklyn on Friday January 9th and at Drom, 85 Ave A in the East Village on Saturday January 10th.

Massive thanks to our illustrious engineer Dan Barker and assistant Serge Zbrizher!

Hello folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Rob W:

Hello Jake!
Avatar 7:22pm Jeff:

Some cutouts may have been caused by some false starts as I tried to get our blackout-damaged primary stream encoder back on line. But I it's working now! I sure hope it consents to stay that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Rob W:

Yes folks, those of you from outta town may not have heard that a raccoon took down part of the Jersey City electrical grid last night! (Including shutting down the PATH subway - my better half Katie and I were forced to detour to the ferry to get home.)
Avatar 7:30pm northguineahills:

Yep, that made to some curious, 'why the hell is WFMU streaming not working?' last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..worry not: Chris Christie has eaten the raccoon; he is getting things done *for the people*...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Sem Chumbo:
