"Instruments" and objects, constructed from diverse materials found in and around the Waterloo Gallery and Studios, were daily introduced throughout the three week period. A number of microphones were installed in selected areas of the gallery. Their locations were designed so as to investigate and record the environment and its resonance to the manipulated, incidental and accidental sounds from without and within the gallery." G'day, ausmanx. Your musing about Johnny Trunk had me dashing to Wikithingy for the broad overview. The piece there winds up: ""Cheezy sleaze and sepia–toned melancholy seem unlikely bedfellows at first glance. But in his 1935 travel book Journey Without Maps, Graham Greene put his finger on or near the place where musty and lustful meet. He wrote about how ‘seediness has a very deep appeal…it seems to satisfy, temporarily, the sense of nostalgia for something lost; it seems to represent a stage further back.’ With their aura of wistful reverie and faded decay, the sounds exhumed by Trunk offer a portal into Britain’s cultural unconscious." Naturally, I am very intrigued, Thanks!
Good morning, DJ N.N..

Two for two, ausmanx! After reading this very short appreciation of Sebald, (www.independent.co.uk...) it looks as though, as a dog seems to randomly follow its nose everywhere, I'll be tracking down both Sebald and Johnny Trunk in short order. PLEASE, no more today:-P

...oh - just now accessing some of my vast discretionary income to fuel my luxury yacht to go hang w/ the supermodels in the sun & picturesque villages about the Mediterranean...don'cha know...that'll take a moment to clear & get in gear - till then a little maple syrup @ local diner might be a capital suggestion...
