I'm up but going to slumberland. Just wanted to say you are spot on about it those pre-CGI special effects. And "Mad Max" and "Road Warrior" are great!
Avatar 🎙 3:41am

Yes, let's go back to green screens and real stunts, I'm not into this CGI movie world.

Hey Sandy! Oh Canada!!!
  3:42am
JakeGould:

FunFact: The reason there were so many post-apocalyptic and even time travel sci-fi things in the pre-CGI era was production costs. A few Star Trek episodes were specifically made because producers wouldn't give Gene Rodenberry funds, so they would whip up a script where the crew went "back in my time" to an old west set or an old NYC set since they had the sets already built on the lot for other things. Very DIY in many ways.

Interesting JAKE, a small budget can often force a director or writer to be more creative ,Hey Mugsy!
  3:48am
JakeGould:

Also read up on "Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan." They reused special effects directly from the first, crappy movie. And the bridge the Enterprise crew is on is the exact same one the hijack Khan crew is on. Just lit, dressed

Cool! It's about TIME! Speaking of low budget movies that did a lot with a little Beyond the black rainbow is one of them!!

it's always like that: less is more. If you have all the possibilities, you don' t have possibilities...

Creativity and Inspiration often come from being backed into a corner.

JakeGould:

And two more bits of trivia on DIY film stuff: "Dawn of the Dead" was set at a mall since George Romero knew the owner and cut a deal to film at night. And the mall car chase scene in Blues Brothers happened thanks to someone on the production team finding out the mall was set to be demolished. So they cut a deal: If it's going to be demolished we can trash it, right? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2316114/The-story-25m-shopping-mall-trashed-Blues-Brothers-epic-police-chase-just-torn-30-years.html

That's it for me on that. But lookup stuff like old TV shows and such. Tons of "making due" that makes you realize how money soaked and tepid modern studio film making can be.

Digging the archive. Re: back-announcing backwards, there's a good reason for that, though it's becoming less important w/the rise of online listening. If a driver tunes into a set partway through on FM radio and wants to ID a track, (s)he can listen to backwards back-announcing and count back to the track, but that won't work w/forwards back-announcing. (Did I explain that correctly? That makes sense, right?)
