Happy 2015 to all those OUT there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm pacific standard simon:

Play me out, Jeffs.
Avatar 12:06pm Brian in UK:

Hello Gents.

Davy or Davey?
Avatar 12:08pm Jeff J:

Hey Pacific Standard Simon! And hello Brian in the UK! Apparently it's both Davy and Davey. It seems the "e" was sometimes added later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Doug Schulkind:

I wonder if Wayy Gravy ever met Davy? In the navy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm listener james from westwood:

Good 2015, Jeff, Jeff, and all!!
Avatar 12:10pm Brian in UK:

That would be marvy.
  12:11pm Dean:

Pittsburgh represent! http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-30204654
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

And to you, @listener james!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Dean, in the virtual house!
Avatar 12:12pm doca:

Happy 2015, Jeffs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Jeff Golick:

Hola, @doca!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Jeff Golick:

Speaking of Davy/Davey -- did anyone out there ever make it through Georges Perec's A VOID?
Avatar 12:14pm Brian in UK:

Dean, I am guessing our equivilent would be the West Midlands, Robert Plant country.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm pacific standard simon:

Makes me want to hear Charlie Byrd's extended jam, "Fantasia on Which Side Are You On". A staple of my childhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm pacific standard simon:

...and maybe some Sandy Bull.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Artie Haywire:

And lo the sound of strings being plucked in anger brought forth the bear from his slumber....
Avatar 12:18pm doca:

@Jeff: That's the one where Perec doesn't use the letter e, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Jeff Golick:

Heyo, it's @Artie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Jeff Golick:

@doca: Yup. No e in the French original, nor in the English translation!
  12:19pm Dean:

Perec eschews "e" in his French original, and then a heroic translator managed to do it in English, too.
Avatar 12:19pm Brian in UK:

Bring forth the oud and gimbri.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm pacific standard simon:

That sounds dir.
  12:20pm Dean:

Scoop'd. I love showing folks a page from A Void and asking them what's going on. Nobody has been able to figure it out.
Avatar 12:21pm Brian in UK:

Best AVoid_d
Avatar 12:21pm doca:

@Jeff: I believe in Portuguese it is done without the "a". Anyway it is just amazing. Have you read it? Is it good?
  12:21pm Dean:

To answer Jeff G.'s question, no, I nvr mad it through that Prc novl.
Avatar 12:22pm Brian in UK:

For the txt gen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Jeff Golick:

I tried the English translation and couldn't make it very far. It's a bravura performance that I don't feel the need to actually experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm pacific standard simon:

I belong to the _____ generation.
  12:24pm Dean:

Spoilr alrt! The butlr did it.
Avatar 12:25pm Jeff J:

Got A Void in my library, but no go so far. Love lots of his books, though.
Avatar 12:25pm Brian in UK:

Ever try Russell Hoban's Riddley Walker. He invents a new language with mixed results. One of his other titles, 'The Mouse & His Child' is peerless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm pacific standard simon:

If you're going to mess with experimental fiction, this is the way to go:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Jeff Golick:

@pss: Agreed. Seems an amazing document, though have only read about it; never held a copy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Jeff Golick:

And @Brian: that's a no for me on Hoban.
Avatar 12:31pm doca:

Yeah, I never read any of Perec novels, though mostly seem very interesting. Maybe it's a 2015 resolution to read some of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Jeff Golick:

Remember that time Carlos Santana made a record with Alice Coltrane?
Avatar 12:33pm Jeff J:

Perec's great ones are Life: A User's Manual, W: Memory of a Childhood, Species of Spaces, and A Man Asleep. All wonderful.
Avatar 12:35pm Jeff J:

Humument is lovely, PSS. Though I've only seen the 4th edition. Wonder how the others compare, if there's a preferred version?
Avatar 12:35pm doca:

Thanks, Jeff J! I've always wanted to read W, maybe I'll start with that.

Regarding Humument, just found this itunes.apple.com...
  12:35pm Dean:

I'm working on a novel in which I studiously avoid the string "toejam." It begins, "Call me Toejam." I'll need to revise that.
Avatar 12:36pm Brian in UK:

@doca The libraries over here are under threat from financial cuts. Does the same apply in Brazil?
Avatar 12:39pm Jeff J:

And if folks are on the experimental fiction tip, there's this novel called MIRA CORPORA you might want to check out.... j.mp...
Avatar 12:40pm Jeff J:

Thanks DOCA. Interesting to see he's up to six editions of Humument already!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm pacific standard simon:

@Jeff J - Buy the 5th edition, read the first edition online! :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @pss. Alas, though pages don't seem enlargeable?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm pacific standard simon:

Sorry, he's taken it down.
Avatar 12:49pm doca:

@Jeff J: Your book is not available on Kindle, right? It's easier for me to get literature this way.
@Brian: I think libraries in Brazil first need some financial to have a financial crisis. I don't think there is a national policy for public libraries over here and they don't have the same relevance they have in other countries. I think it is up to the city administration to oversee that, and that changes every four years when the elections are held and new guys come sweeping the town.
  12:54pm ?:

Whoo scelsi! looking forward to digging in!
Avatar 12:55pm Brian in UK:

doca, somehow I was afraid that you were going to say that. To lose something you have to have it first. We are lucky over here.
Avatar 12:55pm Jeff J:

@Doca - My novel *is* available on Kindle. There's a US and UK edition as well. Hope you enjoy it if you check it out!
Avatar 12:56pm Jeff J:

? --> More Scelsi is one of our New Year's resolutions!
  12:58pm Dean:

This sounds much like the piece Joelle Leandre performs with a hideous shriek. She's playing in Oakland, solo, at Phil Gelb's flat soon: http://philipgelb.blogspot.com/2014/11/joelle-leandre-dinnerconcert-sunday.html
Avatar 1:02pm doca:

@Jeff: Oh sorry, I haven't seen it. Thanks! And yeah, I put the emphasis wrong over there. Language issues.
@Brian: Yeah Brazil has a lot of issues of shrinking public spaces. The problem is when those public spaces didn't existed before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Jeff Golick:

@Dean: that sounds like a pretty sweet scene. I'm hoping, for my upcoming birthday, to make it to a similar sort of thing here, w Ideal Bread: beverleyconcertseries.tumblr.com

(why veg/macrobiotic, tho?)
  1:13pm Dean:

The Lacy tribute band? That would be amazing. I've heard Leandre, David Murray, Mark Dresser, and Oliver Lake at Phil's place. Can't beat sitting at a dinner table passing the bottle of wine to David Murray.

Gelb is a dedicated vegan/macro guy. When he's not playing shakuhachi, he offers cooking classes. The meals are sublime. I think he's decided to wrap up the concert series, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Doug Schulkind:

I was going to read A Void, but for some reason I keep avoiding it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm pacific standard simon:

@Doug - Try reading A Void where prohibited.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Doug Schulkind:

People keep egging me on to read O Void.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm pacific standard simon:

My doctor asked me to void into a plastic cup, but I lacked the urge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm pacific standard simon:

...so she put on this old Joni Mitchell tune, and that fixed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm listener james from westwood:

I credit the smooth past 90 min of proofreading to this superfine show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm listener james from westwood:

Ooh! New Noise & Syrups are always welcome.
Avatar 1:36pm Brian in UK:

Nice work gents. To 2015 and beyond.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Brian. Here's to a year of discovering new soundz together!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Jeff Golick:

Guitar Solos 2: luckylocus.blogspot.com...
  1:44pm Dean:

OMG. That record! I bet I passed on that dozens of times at record store used bins in the '70s and '80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for that Lucky link. Every one I miss turns out to be fantastic. Glad you've got my back, Jeffs. Oh and please tell Ms. Halvorson I think she's keen.
  1:47pm Dean:

Does anybody know this Achim Reichel record? http://www.discogs.com/Achim-Reichel-Klabautermann/master/527100 Saw it used yesterday at Down Home and, yep, I passed it up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Jeff Golick:

Sure thing. Here's #3, also courtesy Mr. Lucky: luckylocus.blogspot.com...

I think #1 is still in proper circulation.
  1:48pm Dean:

(I know that Hans is on the solos record.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Jeff Golick:

Not I, Dean.

And for the Lucky trifecta: luckylocus.blogspot.com...
  1:49pm ?:

Thanks for sharing the the lucky blog... Always looking for new resources =]
  1:49pm ?:

btw, this is fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Jeff Golick:

Though thought it was Hans Reichel on the guitar comp...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Jeff Golick:

This trio record is something else, eh?
  1:51pm Dean:

The soundtrack to "A" Void.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm listener james from westwood:

I just ran across the phrase "a lineman for Neshoba County" in this proofreading. So you know what song I have stuck in my head.

That's right—"Muskrat Love."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Jeff Golick:

Dean: making those connections.
Avatar 1:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Jeffs, enjoy the New Year, and thanks for the Sun Ra link!
Avatar 1:56pm doca:

Thanks Jeffs! Wonderful show to start an year
Swag For Life Member 1:56pm 12539:

Thanks, Misters Jeffs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the thanks, @ngh, @doca, @12539, and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm listener james from westwood:
