Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from January 13, 2015 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Dean:

I have heard it, the hit tune, at least, which appeared as a 12" on Sire Records. I know this because at the very same time I was in a band dubbed M. We recorded the first record on Flip Side, before the fanzine/label was regularly issuing records (such as Beck's first) and videos. The odds were 1/25 that anybody else would pick that letter! X had been taken, of course. Our M was a response.
  4:18pm

Tough luck, Dean! Who'd imagine a band would call themself M? I beleive Tull had a record called A a few years ago.

Sometimes one big ones all you get Dean. I'll look up the Modern Man song. You made me think about the Men Without Hats. They had the Safety Song and then another one. Pop goes the World. That was it. But it wasn't as poplar as the Safety Song.

Avatar 4:50pm
Lopez:

Bill - I saw Men Without Hats a little over a year ago and was stunned to discover how great a live band they are. The singer was wearing a GG Allin shirt and they were kinda punky which I didn't expect. In typical 1 hit wonder fashion the biggest hit started out as a response to getting kicked out of a club for pogo dancing

SeanG:

Carmichael:

Hey Lopez, where did you see MWH? I know you're in the same general area I am.
  4:55pm
Bill:

Lopez. What a story! I guess you never know about a group. Is GG Allin a simlar type band as the Men Without Hats? Im afraid I have not kept up so well.
Avatar 4:56pm
Lopez:

They played Brooklyn Bowl. I looked it up to refresh my memory; 11/30/2012 so I guess it was longer ago than I remember!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I don't think G.G. ever did a safety dance...
Avatar 5:01pm
Lopez:

I would say that GG Allin as a frontman was one of, if not the most, vile and disgusting live acts the world has ever seen! He's now been dead over 20 years but his brother Merle continues his legacy with the band the Murder Junkies (that'll give you an idea of the scummy brand of punk they bring)
Avatar 5:02pm
Claw!:

Hey Brian! Hey Folks!
AWESOME show this evening!
  5:04pm
Bill:

Well I belive I'll avoid GG Allin. I do like a wild show as much as the next man, but not if it is dirty. I di enjoy the Gwar band if you are famlar with them.
Avatar 5:05pm

GWAR is great. I wish I'd seen Skinny Puppy in their theatrical heyday but have no regrets about missing out on live GG

Pauline Murray? Penetration?

Kipper Kids delivered their own amusing brand of disgust. One of the Kids is Mr. Bette Midler.
  5:10pm
Bill:

I think the Butt---e Surfer showed movies behind them. I enjoy that type of thing. They had the fog and fire and the woman shot some fake blood at us.. but it was good fun Dean.
Avatar 5:15pm

Bill, Try to get to a GG Alin show if you get the chance. It's gross but you won't regret it.
  5:17pm
Bill:

Im sorry. Gwar had the woman that shot the blood. This was some years ago. I thought I heard the Van Halen bamd for a minute there until the boy sang. Austerity just has one t in it Brian.

Gwar had great production values. When the bass player cut the head off the guitarist (while the rest of the band laughed), I was converted.
Avatar 5:25pm

The good woid, V, is that Brian's show has been kicking some serious ass, *and* that I'm glad to be home! Busy day w errands.
How you be?
  5:26pm
Bill:

ottovonbqe I believe GG Allin has died. Dean said I wouldn't enjoy it besides. A dirty show. To be honet, I am more of a Dep Purple man or Gwar for the wild stuff. The dirty band don't do much for me. thnak you though

GWAR was an *awesome* band to see live! Dunno what their shows are like since the passing of the late great Oderus Ungerus aka David Brockie, but DAMN, what a show! You had to wear a plain white shirt so you could leave there with lots of "blood" splatter all over you.

'twasn't me who advised against G.G. Allin. I've never seen him live. Kipper Kids were less into offal and viscera, more into Spaghetti-0s, whipped cream, and M80s.
