It's our seventh annual live broadcast from Brooklyn's legendary Balkan and East European music and dance blowout! Golden Fest is a massive two night gathering of musicians, folk dance enthusiasts and fans held at the spectacular Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn's South Slope.

It's a two night affair - tonight is the second night - at the spectacular Grand Prospect Hall, 263 Prospect Ave, South Slope, Brooklyn.

We'll bring you the action live from 6-9 pm at the Grand Ballroom stage, one of four stages with dozens of bands playing from 6 pm until 2 am.

Tickets, available at the door, include a fabulous Balkan / Mediterranean buffet dinner home-made on-site. (Beer is extra - but they usually have great East European dark beer!)

Over sixty bands will play on the four festival stages - Grand Ballroom, Chopin Room, Atrium and Rainbow Room - see the full schedule here. But the bands playing at the Grand Ballroom during the broadcast are:

6:00 pm: Balkan Mind Meld - traditional dance music from the Southern Balkans.

6:30 pm: 101 Kaba Gaidi New York - A Gaida (Bagpipe) Orchestra! 101 KABA GAIDI NY is a project of the non profit cultural organization YBVNY. It's goal is to teach the art of playing the Bulgarian KABA GAIDA.

6:45 pm: Michael Winograd & the Honorable Mentshn: Klezmer dance set with a big orchestra joined by some of NYC's finest klezmer musicians and dancers.

7:15 pm: Ralph Iverson and Friends: Bulgarian and Macedonian dance stylings.

7:25 pm: Ork. Balkan Express AKA Ork. Zlatni Makedoncinja: Modernized Traditional Macedonian, Albanian, Serbian, and Romani music in a modern and exciting way.

7:55 pm: Veveritse Brass Band: Macedonian style brass band mayehm.

8:30 pm: Sergiu Popa & Balkan Camp Orkestra: Gypsy-Balkano-Middle East muzika, and wedding music from Eastern Europe. Music of Eastern Europe in gypsy style, travelling through the Balkans, Turkey and touching on Arabic or Arabesque.

Big thanks to Golden Festival founders and organizers the Zlatne Uste Balkan Brass Band and the Eastern European Folklife Center and the festival committee; WFMU co-host and tech guru Irene Trudel; and to the rest of our illustrious crew:

This should be fun -- wish I was on your coast tonight for the eats and drinks, as well as the music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- 'just warming up' - but wonderful music already!
...love the folk spirit of this - obviously dance music, but almost Baroque lines in it...& almost like it's in a different scale or temperament than 'the West'...Enjoying, Thx!

I forgot to chime in and thank you for broadcasting this. Been here since the beginning, but I'm busy making chili.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Rob W:

Thanks and enjoy your chili northguineahills! (Make mine extra spicy, thanks!)
Avatar 8:16pm northguineahills:

No probem, 4 jalapenos and 1/2 a hab, and a fire-roasted poblano, w/ kidney, garbanzo, and black beans, a bell pepper, some purple carrots, and some corn., just.... perfect (and veggie), still waiting for the non-burger to marinate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Rob W:

My better half Katie will appreciate the veggie-ness!
  8:25pm Carmichael:

Jesus, there's a lot of brass up there on the stage.
  8:29pm KP:

Hey Rob
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- sound is great - even/esp. the Live brass!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm pacific standard simon:

@northguineahills - Pretty close to the chili I made this week, except I had to have some pork shoulder and chicken thighs in the mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Rob W:

Hey Mary - outcue will be the legal ID; after I give the legal ID at the top of the hour Pat can fade us out - even if the band is still playing (this set started a little late). Thanks!
Avatar 8:38pm Mary Wing:

Okay, I'll have Pat ready here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm pacific standard simon:

Wow, three hours passed really quickly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm pacific standard simon:

  9:01pm Robert:

I know, Simon, at 7:15 I looked at my watch and said, "An hour and a quarter done already?"
  7:40pm Noel Kropf:
