Hello, Therese and all
Avatar 12:07am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Somebody gave me shit for liking Wings not too long ago. Screw them.
  12:10am rw:

This is Wings? Weird. I thought I hated Wings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Tome:

why those pseudo intellectual crack head hipsters how dare they ,, I heart wings ,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Therese:

My high school mascot was a Viking,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am Therese:

RW- no one REALLY hates Wings.
  12:11am Steve-O:

Hi Therese. How are you? =)
  12:11am rw:

My friends and I have been having an ongoing discussion about McCartney 2 recently. It's a pretty odd record.
  12:12am Steve-O:

@rw: you can't go wrong with Paul McCartney.....just ask any Beatles fan. =)
Avatar 12:13am KP:

Hey Jimmy McCulloch was in Wings and he was also in Thunderclap Newman. That's enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Tome:

,,, sees his shadow ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am Therese:

McCartney 2 is incredibly odd. And that's what makes it great.
  12:19am JakeGould:

Chiming in to say, I get the “Groundhog Day” reference.
  12:19am JakeGould:

I also like the “Groundhog Day” reference.
Avatar 12:20am ! I X Key !:

Good morning
Very important: squirrel anecdotes? Favorite spiders? Favorite sharks?
Avatar 12:22am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I got a boombox for Christmas in 1982 or 3. I also got two tapes, Billy Joel's "The Nylon Curtain," and McCartney's "Pipes of Peace."
Avatar 12:22am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

This was an interesting time from which to get to know after-Beatles McCartney.
  12:23am rw:

Therese, that's pretty much how our discussion has been going. It seems a little more amazing to my younger friends who discovered it later than to people like me who understood it at the time as McCartney trying to be relevant in the early '80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am Therese:

RW- are you trying to say that Maybe You're Amazed?!
  12:27am rw:

:) Nice one Therese!! Maybe.
  12:27am JakeGould:

RW, it’s coming up!
Avatar 12:27am -andrew-:

Hey everyone!

Tea in a nice, thick glass indended for a pint of beer/cider/etc is quite lovely. With a wooly sleeve to protect your finger tips.
  12:29am rw:

JG, Yep.
Avatar 12:31am Mugsy:

I heart Bettye Lavette. Great choice.
Avatar 12:32am ! I X Key !:

Comfy cozy
Avatar 12:34am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

The videos from the "Say, Say, Say" era feature McCartney trying hard to find the fun camp the Beatles once had. It was schmaltzy, but when you've written things like "Silly Love Songs," some of that is to be expected.
  12:35am JakeGould:

I like “Say, Say, Say.” I said it.
Avatar 12:36am -andrew-:

It would have been funny if you'd played that song 2 or 3 times just to mess with us.
  12:36am JakeGould:

“According to the website Wolf Gnards, Bill Murray spends 8 years, 8 months and 16 days trapped in Groundhog Day. The website Obsessed With Film claims he was trapped 12,403 days, just under 34 years, in order to account for becoming a master piano player, ice sculptor, etc.” www.imdb.com...
  12:37am JakeGould:

It’s science fiction.
  12:37am rw:

I'm not sure I've ever seen Groundhog Day. I guess I'll have to check it out...
Avatar 12:38am Mugsy:

Me too.
Avatar 12:38am ! I X Key !:

When my husband & I met, that was around by his favorite movie
Avatar 12:39am -andrew-:

I saw Groundhog day in the theater with my mom when I was in high school. I think it's the first movie that we both laughed out loud at since I was a much younger kid.
  12:39am JakeGould:

It’s science fiction. All time travel books, TV shows and films are science fiction. But the focus is so much on the human aspect without the “nerdy” specifics that people forget it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am Therese:

Oh, it is SO worth watching.
  12:41am JakeGould:

It’s a great film. Classic. And of course there is a Reddit thread devoted to the concept of whether the film is science fiction or not. www.reddit.com...
Avatar 12:41am -andrew-:

Now I may have to watch it tomorrow after work.
  12:41am rw:

Just checked my schedule. It looks like I may have time to watch a movie in two weeks. You think it's on Netflix?
  12:42am JakeGould:

Ahhh! The other description that I think is more apt: speculative fiction.
Avatar 12:42am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Then there was that c.1984 movie where something terrible (kidnapping, tape heist... something) happened to interrupt Paul McCartney's album going to press, and he spent a night running around after it. "Give My Regards to Broad Street"? Shortly I'll remember the big song from it.
  12:43am rw:

Oh man. The '80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Fuzzy:

"No More Lonely Nights," with David Gilmour's tasty guitar solos.
  12:46am JakeGould:

I’m now nostalgic for “Give my Regards to Broad Street.”
  12:46am rw:

I've never been a super huge fan of Bill Murray. My friend Ernest (who is a big fan) says it's because I'm so much like him.
  12:48am rw:

I could be wrong about Bill Murray though. Like I am about Wings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am Tome:

...*caddyshack" still my fave of this day ,,,
Avatar 12:53am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Yes, "No More Lonely Nights"! I loved that song and its video. Didn't know the guitar licks were Gilmour.
Avatar 12:54am Mugsy:

I think the last movie I saw in a theater was D.C. Cab starring Mr. T.
  12:55am JakeGould:

“Golfphers! Golfphers! I want you to kill all the Golfphers!”
Avatar 12:57am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

The last time I was in New Brunswick, last summer, someone told me of a children's book based on "Good Morning, Captain." We both agreed this was a dark-feeling story to offer a child.
  12:58am rw:

! I X Key !, My daughter and I partly inspired by you made ravioli for the first time the other day. Turned out well. I was kind of surprised.
  12:59am rw:

Or should I say inspired by your excitement about making pasta.
Avatar 1:01am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Regardless, "Good Morning, Captain" remains such a fun ride.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Mister Dobalina:

Nice, heavy duty track after a long night of drinkin'
Avatar 1:05am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Also didn't know Slint were from the very enjoyable town of Louisville.
Avatar 1:05am ! I X Key !:

Avatar 1:06am ! I X Key !:

@rw you remind me of the corzettis
Avatar 1:08am ! I X Key !:

! Fresh pasta is a whole nother different food from store-bought stuff! It really is!
Avatar 1:11am BadGuyZero:

I am dumb. I drifted off to sleep during the moments between the end of whatever that thing that was on NBC earlier and the beginning of your show, Therese. Please forgive me my malfeasance.
Avatar 1:11am ! I X Key !:

@rw wasn't it so much better than the not-real store stuff?
  1:12am JakeGould:

BGZ, was there football on TV today?
  1:12am rw:

Yes. We made the pasta a little thick though. Next time I'm going to stretch it a bit more. Thanks for the inspiration!
Avatar 1:14am Mugsy:

How was the Microsoft ad during the first quarter?
Avatar 1:15am BadGuyZero:

Stephen Tobolowsky is from Dallas. He went to high school with Stevie Ray Vaughan.
  1:17am JakeGould:

I heard the ad was so good that everyone is now buying Microsoft stuffs.
Avatar 1:17am ! I X Key !:

Awesome! Hooray! Wowie zowie! Hooray! Awesome!
Avatar 1:19am Mugsy:

That's funny JakeGould.
Avatar 1:21am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Microsoft got so much advertising from its boldly-labeled products in the game that an ad seem silly.
Avatar 1:25am egal:

Is Microsoft still around?
Avatar 1:25am BadGuyZero:

I guess I missed the Microsoft ad. Obviously money well spent on their part.
  1:27am JakeGould:

I am watching the ad now. So basically they are saying that because some lab techs somehow used Windows in a lab to help a kid with prosthetic legs walk, somehow that is connected to unknown other Microsoft products. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am Therese:

Was that the ad with Salt n' Pepa?
  1:28am JakeGould:

It’s kind of like saying, “I thought that my Zune was worthless, but then I threw it in a burglar’s face which knocked him out cold. Thank you Microsoft!”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am Therese:

(because that's the only one I saw.)
Avatar 1:29am BadGuyZero:

Lays accepted the flavor I created! It's the same flavor they wouldn't allow me to enter last year.
  1:29am JakeGould:

Here is CNET’s coverage.
  1:30am JakeGould:

I mean, here: www.cnet.com...
Avatar 1:30am BadGuyZero:

I heard the Salt N Pepa ad. I assumed it was the Geico ad that's been running for a couple of months.
  1:31am JakeGould:

Some lady had an idea to fill a bus with Microsoft products to teach kids about technology. And this one lady is the reason people around the world should tolerate Outlook mailbox rebuilds every few weeks. youtu.be...
  1:34am JakeGould:

Here is Salt-N-Pepa for Geico; an object lesson in the need for better career management. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 1:37am BadGuyZero:

I created a Sour Patch Kids-flavored potato chip. Last year Lays wouldn't accept my entry because one of the ingredients was children. Apparently that's not an issue this year.
  1:39am JakeGould:

So you mean “Sour Patch Kids” flavored Lays is made from children who eat “Sour Patch Kids?” Or just “Sour Patch Kids” themselves?
Avatar 1:42am BadGuyZero:

The ingredients of Sour Patch Kids potato chips are sweet, sour and children.
  1:43am rw:

Sounds pretty delicious but I don't eat children. Would they be made with actual children or with children flavor?
Avatar 1:45am -andrew-:

I'd try a Baked version of those chips.
Avatar 1:47am BadGuyZero:

Lays didn't ask me to specify whether real children or faux children would be included. Last year when I tried to enter the flavor I received a message stating that my entry couldn't be accepted; they gave me a number to call to discuss the matter. When I called the person said that it was the children ingredient that was causing the issue.
Avatar 1:48am BadGuyZero:

The moral of the story is that if you get on the phone and talk to a human you can include children as an ingredient in snack food.
Avatar 1:50am BadGuyZero:

This is probably the point when you wish that you could "Groundhog Day" the first hour of tonight's show [because I was asleep then].
  1:52am JakeGould:

What ethnicity of children or does that not matter? I hope the kids are not too spicy.
Avatar 1:53am BadGuyZero:

The rare three asterisk "special" designation.
Avatar 1:55am ! I X Key !:

hooray snow
Avatar 1:55am BadGuyZero:

Ethnicity of the children is not something I have spent any time considering. I guess I would use children that do not have measles. I'm trying to make potato chips; not spread a disease.
  1:58am JakeGould:

I like your philosophy. Also, did we talk about “Mr. Do” at some point this week?
Avatar 1:58am BEAVO:

Don't forget your mittens cause it's coooold out there. The question on everyone's lips is...
  1:59am JakeGould:

Also, lotion. I bought a new bottle of lotion because of this weather. For a man, that is a big deal.
Avatar 2:00am BEAVO:

Their chapped lips.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am Therese:

JakeGounld- There's a bar a few blocks from here that has a "Mr. Do" machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am Fuzzy:

I like Girl Scout Cookies, myself...
  2:04am JakeGould:

Therese! Seriously? And it’s not Barcade? Because I had a fit of nostalgia this winter and started playing it OCD-like during these cold days… Been able to get up to 140,000+
Avatar 2:04am BadGuyZero:

I have absolutely no idea what "Mr. Do" is. So it probably was not me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am Therese:

No, it is Barcade. At least, I THINK they have a "Mr. Do."
  2:06am JakeGould:

Might have been Danne D. But gotta let that OCD urge pass… Too unhealthy to just play “Mr. Do” endlessly. But to play it on a real machine and get the initials up there. Damn! Will see about visiting JC to make a “Mr. Do” mark on the world. Even if it is Barcade, I gotta be realistic about where arcade games are nowadays.
  2:06am JakeGould:

Yup, they got “Mr. Do!” Thanks Therese! barcadejerseycity.com...
Avatar 2:07am BadGuyZero:

I looked up Mr. Do. How has that escaped me? I'm almost 45; the prime age for having spent a significant amount of time in a video arcade during my youth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am Therese:

BGZ- It's kind of like Lawnmower Man meets Pac Man. Sort of? JakeGould, correct me if I'm wrong.
  2:07am JakeGould:

It’s like “Dig Dug” meets “Pac Man.”
  2:09am JakeGould:

Mr. Do is a clown who is trapped in a hellscape green world where he must kill red dinosaurs that chase him or harvest cherries to complete a level. He can dig in the grass and dig under apples to kill the dinosaurs. There are subtle nuances to what you can do, but that’s the basic premise… And when you get past level 10 the screen says “WONDERFUL!” and that’s it. Oh, also digitized version of the “Can Can” is the background music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10am Fuzzy:

That Barcade looks like a swell place...I could make that a part of some future 'FMU Field Trip someday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am Fuzzy:

Maybe they'll be able to find a working Zaxxon game by then!
  2:11am JakeGould:

Fuzzy, they are a mini-chain in the tri-state area. All of the games are in pristine condition. The one in Williamsburg is surreal. It]s just so clean and all the games work. And you can drink.
Avatar 2:12am BadGuyZero:

The arcade in my town was lousy. It had weird knock-off versions of games. Donkey Kong was Crazy Kong. The Space Invaders knock-off was called Space Invaders II. Gameplay was pretty much identical but the colors were vastly different.
  2:13am JakeGould:

BGZ, the neighborhood I grew up in Brooklyn had sketchy knock-offs also. I first played the knock off “Bite Monster” before ever playing “Pac Man.”
Avatar 2:14am BadGuyZero:

I have heard from reputable sources that the JC Barcade has a Sinistar machine. Someday I will actually set foot in there to find out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am Fuzzy:

Is it all-you-can-play for a set price, or tokens, quarters, pesos...?
  2:14am JakeGould:

Quarters. Like God intended.
Avatar 2:15am BadGuyZero:

My friends never want to go to Barcade. It's like Lucky 7 is the only bar in JC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am Fuzzy:

Cool...and Tempest! Right on!
  2:17am JakeGould:

Just did a sweep of all the Barcade locations. Jersey City is the only one with “Mr. Do.” Gotta “Do” it.
Avatar 2:17am BadGuyZero:

Barcade pretty much serves as the "cross the street now so you don't cross paths with the Cookies & Crepes creep" point.
  2:19am JakeGould:

Anyways, thanks for the heads up Therese!
Avatar 2:19am BadGuyZero:

The only place in the town where I grew up that had "real" [not knockoff] video games was Swensen's ice cream parlor. They had a sit-down Asteroids machine. But you had to bring a note from your parents stating that it was ok for you to play video games.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am Therese:

BGZ- I like Lucky's, but if you don't have a seat, it's miserable.
Avatar 2:22am BadGuyZero:

Swensen's also had a jukebox. I have no idea how many times I played Olivia Newton-John's "Magic" on the jukebox. It was a whole bunch of times.
  2:22am JakeGould:

BGZ, interesting to hear other people’s videogame experiences. I grew up near Coney Island so that place was always legit. But I played tons of games in odd—and honestly sketchy—storefronts that were actually fronts as a kid. I’m actually working on mapping the locations. You can’t have arcade game in a normal store anymore due to anti gambling/gaming rule nonsense.
  2:24am JakeGould:

“Kiss Me Dummy” was made by Fred Sanford?
Avatar 2:26am BadGuyZero:

@Jake: There was a convenience store [Stop n Go] that eventually got a Dragon's Lair machine. I guess it did ok business because they added a Sinistar machine a few months after DL appeared.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am Fuzzy:

@BGZ: found this in my Youtube Liked Videos list, for after the show of course:

I went to an Olivia Newton-John show in Cleveland a couple of years ago. It was so much fun. I'll gladly plunk down money to see her again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Therese:

I love ONJ. Without irony.
  2:37am JakeGould:

Olivia Newton John is fine with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am Fuzzy:

Didn't know she still toured/performed -- nice! That Midnight Special vid is such an awesome trip back to sophmore year for me! Yes, I am old now!

BTW: did you notice the headless guy clapping near the front of the stage?

"Gnarly!" Jeff exhaled.
Avatar 2:49am BadGuyZero:

ONJ has some sort of ongoing residency at a casino in Las Vegas now. She does an occasional show outside of Vegas, but for the most part you have to go to LV to see her. If her Vegas show is anything like the Cleveland show expect hit-after-hit for 90 minutes.
Avatar 2:53am BadGuyZero:

The Seinfeld episode "The Frogger" is on TV right now. I have it muted but felt it warranted a mention since we've been discussing video games.
  2:57am JakeGould:

“The holes…”
  2:57am Steve-O:
