@Liz: A belated merci for airing my HHotRS last week! Given that you opened this week w/ a version of HotRS, it's also a fitting listen for this Fat Tuesday. So here's a link for anyone who missed it: freemusicarchive.org...

Re: "chocko Me: "Jock-a-mo" by James "Sugar Boy" Crawford came out in 1953, and the lyric was spelled Jock-a-mo fi no wan an dey
Jock-a-mo fi na ney. Found an interesting tidbit about the lyric origins: a linguistics professor who thought they definitely came from a West African language. Back in the US, a professor of Creole Studies thought it came from a mixture of Yoruba and French Creole, and proposed the following breakdown:

Enòn, Enòn! [Code Language!]
Aiku, Aiku nde. [God is watching.]
Jacouman Fi na Jacouman [causes it]
ida-n-de [We will be emancipated.]
Jacouman Fi na dé Jacouman [urges it; we will wait.]

blee:

Wow, I thought it was just a fun garbled thing to say. Those words are rather profound, Pardon my ignorance.
Avatar 12:51pm
kat330:

@Blee: Actually the site goes on with other interpretations: Wikipedia says some mysterious, unnamed "creole lingua specialists" endorse the following French-based Creole interpretation:
Ena! Ena! [Hey now! Hey now!]
Akout, Akout an deye [Listen, listen at the back]
Chaque amoor fi nou wa na né [All the love made our king be born]
Chaque amoor fi na né [All the love made our king be born]
That certainly sounds plausible. But also possibly from a Native American language where "chokma finha" means "very good." God I love the Internet! (thank you, Al Gore ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm

@kat330 - the internet is a rather amazing portal. I love how we have the ability to delve into such vast information with such minimal effort.

Philthy woman:

the Projects are a UK band, from what i read. It seems 'A million crimson roses" is a cover of the Russian song 'A million scarlet roses'. Alla Pugacheva's version is on Utube if you wanna check that out later- it's something!

so would it be legal to remix it and play it on the air outside of the official test?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
Ike:

Hmm, good question.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
Liz Berg:

You could remix it but you could never play it over the radio, otherwise we'd get in trouble for messing with the system.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm
Liz Berg:

We once got a record that played the EAS beeps in the background, and even that could have made the system go haywire. It's actually audio-based, so the tones are being read by EAS units at other stations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
