Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Amanda:

It just might be the best capybara gif you see today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am listener james from westwood:

Capybaras! Earth's most regal rodent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm doctorjazz:

Hi all, may be the last time I can post, but always happy when the stream slips past the office firewall!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Stevel:

While I refuse to complain about or 'wish' the cold away, I am pretty much done with it this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Amanda:

Welcome Listener James, Stevel, and especially the sneaky doctorjazz!
Avatar 12:06pm glenn:

one more week, stevel, then we're singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm listener james from westwood:

I'm quite done with the snow, too. I had a big party planned for Sat. night, one I'd postponed once due to snow in January, that got snowed out. Had to cancel. Stuck with tons of food, and, pertinent to this cut, shitloads of beer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Polyus:

Amanda, can you explain to the tech-stupid out here (i.e., me) why the GTDR stream is not available in mono? I only get to use one earbud at work.
Avatar 12:07pm glenn:

also, can i just mention how awesome farrow and ball paint is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Stevel:

So far, this set is warming me up. Please continue.
  12:08pm P-90:

Happy Capybara, DJ Amanda and all the Nazarini here assembled!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Stevel:

In this Butthole Surfers' selection, I am picturing smiling yet frenzied capybaras rushing about a junkyard.

This either makes me creative or in need of counseling.
  12:10pm Dean:

@Polyus, If you're using VLC media player you can deliver mono. Maybe WMP allows the same setting.
Avatar 12:12pm glenn:

gerbils are now the world's most reviled rodent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Polyus:

@Dean, listening via the WFMU app on my phone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Amanda:

@Dean, thanks for the suggestion -- and @Polyus, I don't have the answer to your Q but can certainly raise the topic with our awesome support person Jeff M.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...chupacabra spa - ?!?...even they have a better health plan
...ey-oop Georgie - Joyeux ♓Piscean Solar Return...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Dominick:

  12:19pm Dean:

Now we're talking tech-stupid (i.e., me)! I don't have a phone that hosts apps, so I can't help with that particular problem. The settings don't permit mono? Looks like Dominick has a solution up there ^.
  12:19pm P-90:

Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant past, the Central Park Zoo was just....part of the park. One could just stroll through it casually without buying a ticket. and there was an old bored looking male lion with a huge mane, a tiger who would focus on small passing children and "stalk" them as they walked by, and the Monkey House, which smelled so strongly of urine that your eyes would water as you walked through. And: there was an outdoor pen occupied year 'round by a pair of capybaras, who would wait for those who sat on benches nearby eating lunch to throw them scraps, and who would make territorial snorting sounds at your dog if you walked her too close to the fence around their pen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Polyus:

Yeah, Dominick, that's really cool. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Polyus:

@Dean - the WFMU itself is available mono, but not any of the other streams.
  12:23pm KP:

Good morning Amanda
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Carmichael:

Hi Amanda & listeners.
Avatar 12:30pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar 12:32pm ndbob:

I love capybaras - some people have them as pets - and I love most rodents
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm listener james from westwood:

scandal = insta-star
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Dominick:

  12:37pm KP:

Patty Smyth, my theoretical former neighbor
Avatar 12:37pm Roberto:

Butthead: Is this Pat Nebatar?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm listener james from westwood:

this video cost like $6 and I LOVE IT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm efd:

+1 for The Tourists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Amanda:

A jolly hello to everyone who's jumped on since my last hello. So pleased you're enjoying the Tourists, the capybaras, and the Patty Smyth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm listener james from westwood:

Whoa, I've only ever heard the first little snippet w the P.O. box of this Replacements cut (as part of a reader-mail segment of a podcast). Thanks for filling in the blank!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- every/anybody see Sleater-Kinney on NPR last night? Real fun - NPR did a great job.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...perhaps the Hollies' cred wave is building??...
  12:56pm KP:

Mr. Leitch, v nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Amanda:

@RR, I'd hope it is! In my mind they have enjoyed very good cred for years.
  12:58pm Dean:

Donovan and Al Stewart really need to record together an album of songs heavy in sibilants. "Crystal spectacles"!
  1:04pm Dean:

Weirder, Paul Shaffer has played and recorded with Tisziji Muñoz and Rashied Ali!
  1:04pm Dean:

Ten bucks says you won't make to Easter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Dominick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Amanda:

@Dean, make it 20 and I'll give it to the station come marathon time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm northguineahills:

Offered me a twinkie... haha....
Avatar 1:07pm bpd:

Wait so in the Chipmunks version the Gambler is a lunch moocher?
  1:10pm Dean:

I am remorseful for having contributed to the demoralization of a solemn observance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Amanda:

Exactly. I'm fascinated that the gambler isn't allowed to drink, but he IS allowed to die pathetically in this song for kids!
Avatar 1:12pm bpd:

Soda and twinkies will do that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm northguineahills:

Ahh, I know this episode, just based on the Hill Street Blues theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm listener james from westwood:

Alf Clausen must have fun doing these soundalikes for the occasional closing theme alternative. And hells yes to the reading glasses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm northguineahills:

I just watched this episode about 6 weeks ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm northguineahills:

Homer blocks the exit (in the fire drill), woohoo! I won! what do I get!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm northguineahills:

"Why won't it slow down!??" Lenny about the rocket cabin.
  1:28pm Sean:

Sorry to interupt Simpsons time, but every mention of Parks and Recs today has been a reminder of how much I am going to miss the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm listener james from westwood:

The newsletter line is indeed an enduring one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Amanda:

Lenny: "Something's wrong with its brakes!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Amanda:

@Sean: It was a great sitcom, one of only like 3 good ones in the past 10 years. A good decision to quit while they were ahead, IMO.
  1:35pm Sean:

Good point, Amanda. I just cannot recall a show going out on such a strong season when the end was previously announced.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm northguineahills:

ahh, thanks Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...technically - it came out George was born just before midnight the 24th...in distinctly Suburban Liddypool one presumes

...this HDN scene is - absolutely crucial...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm listener james from westwood:

I did not know until this day that "grotty" derived from "grotesque." Thanks, Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Stevel:

Putting HDN on my list. Not sure I've seen it straight through. Many pieces, many times, to be sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...or - bit in Yellow Sub Ringo's rounding them up - finds George in room w/ mountaintop & sitar intro to 'Love You To' sounds w/ arms crossed & wind in hair
- then appears behind him w/ the car that keeps changing colors: 'It's All in the Mind'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm northguineahills:

I used to have George's experimental electronic album. It was pretty rad, unfortunately it was on a hard drive that died.
Avatar 1:46pm Roberto:

My college band was called "Dead Grotty"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm northguineahills:

Lovely Emerald Web.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm listener james from westwood:

This Emerald Web is (a) new to me and (b) quite delightful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Amanda:

@Roberto, great band name. I wonder if anyone else had that idea...
Avatar 1:53pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar 1:54pm Roberto:

Yeah our rhythm guitarist came up with it. Sadly, like the source of the name, no longer with us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm listener james from westwood:

All too brief, this mighty program. Thanks muchly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm northguineahills:

Strong finish, thanks Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Stevel:

Amanda is an excellent eu-nun-ce-a-tor (Smattering, FTW!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'grotty' reportedly the invention of the scriptwriter (Alun Owen)- but it seems to stick w/ people...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Amanda:

Hearty thangks to all of you listeners. Catch you next time. xo
