For people trying to avoid negative personalities, they sure are good at drawing skulls.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Charlie:

James -- you gotta acknowledge the skull before you can eradicate the negative personality traits.
  12:05pm jan:

Paul Revere and the Raiders- must have heard that last at the Jr. High dance.
  12:06pm Listening Out There:

RE the Raiders: Let us not forget Fang...
Avatar 12:10pm Lewis:

I collect, digitize, de-pop, photograph and categorize music like this. I aspire to talking over it… (warning; this is what decades of fmu listening has wrought)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Uncle Michael:

Charlie, you so cray cray.

Thank you.
Avatar 12:15pm Lewis:

Ahmen to @UM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Uncle Michael:

Lewis, you need to blog that library music so leeches like me can benefit from your hard work, effortlessly.
Avatar 12:16pm bobdoesthings:

get it together!!
Avatar 12:16pm Lewis:

@UM - I am working in that direction. Will keep you posted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

Better a Del Rubio equipment than wardrobe malfunction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm listener james from westwood:

@Lewis: That would indeed be a mighty music blog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Charlie:

Hey Michael, Jan, Lewis, Uncle Michael
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Charlie:

I should digitize the few library music albums I have in return for all the ones I've downloaded online. That is one I do have on vinyl.
Avatar 12:19pm Carmichael:

I used to watch the Del Rubio Triplets on the Pee Wee Herman show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Wendy del Formaggio:

I just finished interviewing a cheesemaker about rinds, so now I can tune in. Hi Charlie! My head is still above water.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Uncle Michael:

I wish all the Fraykers stuff hadn't become so difficult to track down. That person ws doing the lord's work.

I should really go wash my rind.
Avatar 12:21pm Lewis:

@WdF - you write some of the greatest sentences!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Uncle Michael, only if you want a very specific kind of cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks, Lewis! That's my job.
Avatar 12:22pm Erella:

LOVE Alberta Hunter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Uncle Michael:

I'm afraid that if I don't wash it soon, I'll have the wrong kind of cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Uncle Michael, I think it's illegal to sell that kind of cheese in the United States.
Avatar 12:25pm Carmichael:

Don't forget Mrs. Partridge, Charlie!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Wendy del Formaggio:

I'm fond of Shirley Hemphill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Charlie:

A late BDN welcome to Wendy, Erella, Parq, and Henry. And Shirley. All the Shirleys.
Avatar 12:30pm glenn:

i wanna know what the cheesemaker had to say in re: rinds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Shirley Jackson wrote "The Lottery" while living in North Bennington, Vermont. If that's not a rousing endorsement for my neighbors to the west, I don't know what is.
Avatar 12:32pm bobdoesthings:

is this Sukia original music or sampled/mixed ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm listener james from westwood:

I'm fond of Reggiano rinds! I'm also fond of fond.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm schmutz:

Quietly listening (also curious about the rinds)

Can't find the full video but this bit: tinyurl.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks Michael! The server here is SLOW, so I bookmarked it for later. From the headline, it looks like they're talking about Duo, the new restaurant. I wrote about them a few months ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Uncle Michael:

Admit it. We all heard this melody first from Bugs Bunny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm listener james from westwood:

"Five O'Clock Whistle" = compulsively whistle-able.
@UM: Absolutely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Charlie:

I heard most of the classics first on WB cartoons -- classical and standard pop songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

Some year my DJ premium will all be songs we first heard as kids from the cartoons. Lot's of Popeye exposure for me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Wendy del Formaggio:

UM: do it! That would be awesome. I am trying to remember if Woody Woodpecker has any material for that project. It's been awhile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Parq:

Those were obviously children, but when I see Dick Shawn doing an act with "His Little People", I immediately picture a flock of disorderly midgets.
Avatar 12:48pm Carmichael:

I've always loved Dick Shawn's work. Best Hitler EVAH!
Avatar 12:51pm Erella:

Would you include charlie brown songs.
Look at this lovely old cartoon.

Avatar 12:51pm glenn:

a turnip as state vegetable. i like that thinking.
Avatar 12:51pm bobdoesthings:

nice @erella!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Parq:

Wendala, Uncle M's proposal immediately had me scanning my memory of WW cartoons, too. Great minds, and all that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Wendy del Formaggio:

glenn: not just ANY turnip. The Gilfeather is unique. Mainly because it's not disgusting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Parq: yup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm listener james from westwood:

@UM, that's a winning idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Uncle Michael:

The theme from WW has it's basis in a popular song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Uncle Michael:

There are many melodies that are burned into boomer and post-boomer brains by the cartoons, that most of us don't even think of as popular songs. I think things Bugs hums or whistles are prime among them. Another one is "By A Waterfall."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Charlie:

good one, Erella!
Oh, I've missed a discussion of the Gilfeather Turnip! A truly wonderful vegetable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Wendy del Formaggio:

This Eartha Kitt numbah is one of my favorites. So many hilarious lines... The one about the theater and stepping on people's feet always gets me.
  12:59pm frenchee:

Oh EARTHA! Singin' my theme song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Parq:

UM, let's talk about "I Wanna Sing-A". How many people - probably more in the FMUnierse than most -- know that the song began as a move song featuring Jolson and Calloway serenading each other from penthouse balconies set across the street from each other -- the latter accompanied by his full band?
Avatar 1:00pm Carmichael:

Now you just need a song called "I Want to Be Shirley".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Parq:

And now I'm picturing Wendy and Frenchee slinking into a cabaret at 2 in the morning, laying waste to the menfolk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Charlie:

Oh, Frenchee, you'll have to try hard to be bad :)
Wendy -- that's my fave line too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Parq: Oh, so you were there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Uncle Michael:

I don't think I've ever seen Al and Cab, Parq.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Charlie:

Parq -- I love "I Wanna Sing-a"! I've played the whole soundtrack of the cartoon on air. And it was just recently that I learned of the Cab Calloway - Jolson origins. I believe there's a youtube video around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Uh oh! Now I have to go interview a woman about a very old round schoolhouse that may have been designed and built by a Scottish bandit-in-exile. Bye everyone! Hear ya on the archives, Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Parq:

Uncle M, Youtube it, man! Oh, it is a wonder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Charlie:

Bye, Wendy!
Avatar 1:14pm glenn:

because it's not like much of canada and the u.s. were peopled by ex bandits from the british isles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Brian in UK:

Hello Charlie, who is your marathon buddy or are you cloning?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Brian in UK:

@glenn STAND AND DELIVER.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Charlie:

Hey Brian, I'll be doing my shows here, so no co-hosts. I think all of you will have to be my buddies.
  1:23pm frenchee:

@Parq, @Wendy, @Charlie CABARET all around!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Charlie:

Avatar 1:27pm Roberto:

Sorry I'm late. What'd I miss?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm northguineahills:

@Roberto: ditto!
  1:30pm frenchee:

I forgot to say earlier that I love Karen Mantler. She's like a modern-day Lizabeth Scott mixed with Ricki Lee Jones. Or something
  1:31pm Andy the painter:

oh man.... I've been working and now I'm hungry and wanna go to lunch but I don't wanna miss anything!
great show, Charlie.
Avatar 1:31pm Carmichael:

This sounds like Madeline Kahn doing Francoise Hardy.
Avatar 1:32pm still b/p:

Yeah, was just gonna ask if that was a Lili Von Shtupp tribute band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Charlie:

Hi Roberto, NGH,
Good call there, @Frenchee -- I love her too
Hi Andy and still b/p
  1:33pm frenchee:

Hoosier HOMEBOY Paul Sturm!
  1:34pm frenchee:

I just might be one of the cheering section on that one....I used to be cool!!!!!!
Avatar 1:35pm Erella:

I am enjoying this music. Thank you.
  1:35pm frenchee:

Charlie you're killin' it today. Good times indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Charlie:

Right place, right time, eh Frenchee? Did you live in Indiana then? Or are you from there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm listener james from westwood:

That Sturm was a gasser.
  1:37pm frenchee:

Yes and yes. Paul is actually from Cincinnati but he spent many years making weird sounds in Bloomington, IN, where I matriculated (as Danny Stiles would say).
  1:37pm Andy the painter:

hmmmm....
maybe I will have clams on the half shell for lunch.
Avatar 1:38pm still b/p:

What's the word...let's make one..for those songs of the past once personally regarded as annoyances or mere dismissable pop wallpaper and later enjoyed as great fun or a goose of sentimentality.
  1:39pm frenchee:

@still b/p: it's called disco, I think. Or ABBA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Charlie:

@still b/p: let's call it distance. or the wisdom of age. . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Charlie:

meanwhile:
"I'm twice as nice, skating on ice,
The dedicated king of the disco slice"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Charlie:

Can you say "matriculate" on the air?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm northguineahills:

I pretty much unconsciously missed disco on the first pass, but by the late 90s, I started to dig Italo and electro disco, but the disco craze that's at every third club around here is crap (well, some of them are actually good, but they are in the minority)

Haven't heard this Sugar Hill in years.... nice.
  1:46pm gary mitchell:

wow this is great
  1:49pm Listening Out There:
