Scratchy vanity 45s, pilfered field recordings, muddy off-the-radio sounds, homemade congregational tapes and vintage commercial gospel throw-downs; a little preachin', a little salvation, a little audio tomfoolery.

Ken From Hyde Park:

It's nice here. A lot less coughing than the church in my town.
Avatar 8:30pm
DeaconDave:

All the coughers went out for a smoke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
coelacanth:

author Tom Robins states in one book that the church community at some point started focusing on soul,& forgot about spirit. i think maybe that explains the loss of this music from most churches.
Avatar 8:34pm
DeaconDave:

Hmmmm....
Avatar 8:34pm
Brother Ray:

Interesting perspective, Co-el
Avatar 8:38pm
Brother Ray:

There go Bernice! Running for Jesus and Shirley Caesar...
Avatar 8:39pm
DeaconDave:

Shirley Caesar? Who's that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
coelacanth:

i'm not saying i know -and i don't think Tom Robbins was claiming to know either; but i do think it's an interesting consideration...and i do think people don't generally know the difference between soul & spirit.
Avatar 8:41pm
DeaconDave:

Both tie nicely with music so I've experienced
  8:42pm
Grandpa:

It's the spirit that moves you, and it touches the soul
Avatar 8:43pm
Brother Ray:

That'll work, G-Pa
Avatar 8:47pm
DeaconDave:

Nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
coelacanth:

i always thought of soul as essentially physical and spirit as intangible, and that they work best together...at least here on this plane.
Avatar 8:48pm
DeaconDave:

As long as God is involved it is GOOD
Avatar 8:50pm
Brother Ray:

Amen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
coelacanth:

i'm sorry if a bit of analogy is un-welcome here...i was only responding to your {DeaconDave's}comment about spirited music being gone from many churches.
Avatar 8:51pm
Brother Ray:

No offense here, Dude.
  8:51pm
JakeGould:

Phew, early right? Where is the coffee?
Avatar 8:54pm
DeaconDave:

That is true - I grew up in a church where all was very scripted . . . I do not believe God intiended it to be that way . . . .
Avatar 8:54pm
DeaconDave:

Spell much?
  8:55pm
JakeGould:

That ‘Say “No” to Sin’ sign is amazing.
