@Parq - whilst in Brussels, get to a small town just outside it called Beersel, which is the home to most of the Lambic beers. Eat at a place called Drie Fonteinen. Wonderful stuff.

Bruges is a step out of time, Chocolate, beer, frites. Crazy old buildings. You can walk around it easily.
Ghent is close by Bruges, some good museums there. Only ever passed through Brussels.

I think of Lambics like Freeform radio a bit. A bit outside the current vogue, somewhat linked to an older generation, and with a vim and vinegar core to it. In short, it's good for ya and we must protect and nurture it!

heya Doug. I've not listened to you in a while. This fundraiser has drawn me back into WFMU in a big way (sorry, in other words - I've maxed out on my pledging this time, twice over). Not that people in the comments already need any encouragement, but anyone listening/reading who's not pledged, please shake a monied leg and help out. This kind of radio is a concept and approach that brings the music alive and gives it more meaning than if you just let it wash over you via someone's mixes or podcasts. Teach the youth!

The gose style seems to the darling of the moment for US craft brewers, alongside sours. Branching out from the extra IPAs seems natural, but I can't say I've developed much of a taste for these sour, brett and gose styles. Toasty dark flavors on the other hand...

i was a fan of doug before i knew he was "doug'.... i used to tape the shows off the pc onto cassette.. what treasures i had, and they are long gone..it was my introduction to "the best show" at that time, too, which i found to be sheer genius..i became addicted to streaming radio from that point.. have never looked back.
