I once restored an old Berber 45'' by Cheik Djilali Ain Tedles. It was physically snapped in half! Put it on the record player as best as possible, manually lifting the needle for each half rotation to get the track content and then later sorting out and gluing it back together in the digital domain.. Must have been some 60 hours to get the track fully restored!

that kind of tar is just thick oil and yeah, all kinda creature got stuck in it. What would happen is something like a baby deer would go in, then the momma to save it, then a vulture would swoop down to get some food but would get stuck and then a tiger would jump on the vulture and get stuck. THEN, you end up with all these bones together and 200 years later people point at it and say "That shit was a dragon!"

This rehearsed improvisation thing reminds me of my jazz student days. We were split into groups of 5-6, asked to each come up with a 4-bar-long improvisation for ourselves and then play them simultaneously with all our group members' improvisations, repeating the 4 bars over and over. Then we performed them for foreign dignitaries at an evening event. Each group was a different season. My group was winter. I still remember my 4-bar wail of winter wind.
