Swag For Life Member 10:02am Ralphine:

Meco ought to sue The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown for ripping off this song.
Avatar 10:02am Cecile:

this actually stands as good funk and not gimmicky.
Avatar 10:03am Cecile:

Love the drums on this. Crazy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am DCE:

this is not on the DJ premium, Joe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am cory:

Meco has been a favourite of mine since i was 8 or so. just so funking good
Avatar 10:04am Joe McG:

I heard Kurt play a version of "Tusk" yesterday and wanted to hear some marching drums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am DCE:

yeah that was quite the version of Tusk!
Avatar 10:05am Joe McG:

@DCE: I wanted to, but it's 12 minutes long and I didn't like any of my edits.
Avatar 10:05am Cecile:

I feel like I am at half-time at the Bayou Classic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am DCE:

coffee's kickin' in, marching drums are kickin' in...
Avatar 10:05am Cecile:

All it needs is a high-stepping tuba section.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am cory:

mucca pazza would probably fit in with the music you play. have you listened to any, Joe?
Avatar 10:06am Joe McG:

@cory: Oh, yeah! They were on Evan's show not long ago. I'm going to do a marching band set in the near future, guaranteed.
Avatar 10:06am Cecile:

thank you Joe. This might be the best thing I heard all week, and it's been a great music week for me.
Avatar 10:07am Joe McG:

My pleasure, Cecile! I agree, it's been a great week of music on WFMU this week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am cory:

awsome! #Brass4Life
Avatar 10:08am Cecile:

Yeah, and I also went and bought the 2 new Dj Qbert discs. What a treasure.
Avatar 10:12am Cecile:

Ha! I remember when this was in heavy rotation on nearly every show on WCBN when it came out.
Avatar 10:12am Cecile:

Detroit loves the J. Geils Band.
Avatar 10:12am Joe McG:

So does Jersey City! ;)
Avatar 10:13am Cecile:

I was sorry that this was pretty much their swansong. Lots of fun songs on there. Great party album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Lewis:

I never thought of J. Geils as a funk band, which explains why I was never sure about them. This is pretty cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Jeff Golick:

It's the Big Mattress flashbacks.
Avatar 10:14am Polyus:

I used to be a flamethrower at night. Now I am usually asleep by 10:30.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Andrew Waterloo:

Apparently they used to be regulars here in Kitchener as well. But there was a falling out over Freeze Frame
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Stevel:

J. Geils Band was always great at what they did. High compliment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Mike Sin:

Hi Joe, just listenin' live and checkin' in... Looking forward to single file, as always... All your hard work during the fundraising marathon should be commended. Thanks for that.
Avatar 10:15am Cecile:

If you tune into classic rock in Lower Michigan, I bet dollars to donuts that you will hear the live version of I do I do with the whole Rapunzel rap on it at least once a day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am cory:

according to my local radios "Angel in a Centerfold" is the only J. Geils Band release ever
Swag For Life Member 10:17am Ralphine:

Google has destroyed my memory. I couldn't think of the name of J. Geils' lead singer to save my life.
Avatar 10:17am Cecile:

Peter Wolf
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am cory:

Rob Thomas, right?
Avatar 10:17am Cecile:

I know, cory. Sigh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am DCE:

it's funny, I was just talking about Peter Wolf the other day...I know an engineer who is working with him currently on a new project.
Swag For Life Member 10:18am Ralphine:

I thought it was J. Geils.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Joshua K:

I kinda did my pledge selections and didn't use my swag for life to troll for prizes this year. We get fancy icons now?
Avatar 10:19am Cecile:

Ralphine, he was the harp player.
Avatar 10:19am Cecile:

no, that was Magic Dick. hahahha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Lewis:

@joshua K - yeah - aint' it cooool...
Avatar 10:20am Joe McG:

@DCE: That's good news! @Joshua: Always innovating!
Avatar 10:20am Cecile:

Geils was a guitarist.

Ha, even in Wikipedia:
"Although living in Boston, the band had always considered Detroit its second home because of its enormous popularity there."
Swag For Life Member 10:21am Ralphine:

Seriously, I didn't know there was actually a J. Geils until just now. I always thought it was a made-up name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Joshua K:

I didn't even have to e-mail you this year Joe :)
Avatar 10:21am Sean B.:

I must say in my humble opinion "Freeze Frame" is the LOWEST point in The J Geils Band's career,God awful. Their first 4 albums are downright spectacular.
Avatar 10:22am Joe McG:

@JK: Ha!
Avatar 10:22am Cecile:

I like all of them for different reasons. Freeze Frame was a great party album for me.
Avatar 10:24am Cecile:

wow, Geils is opening for Bob Seger on his tour. That's 70s Detroit right there. Wonder what the median age is going to be?
Avatar 10:26am conkrete dawg:

god damn, james!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Lewis:

@Cecile - somewhere around that of the current fmu chat crowd?

  10:30am Ike:

James sounds a little crusty but his band is on fire beyond all normal Earth standards. Bathroom break jam, Joe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am cory:

bob, i find audio JB kinda dull sometimes. i'm almost always hooked when i get a/v JB
Avatar 10:33am Cecile:

They ran this clip on TV1 Unsung when they did a special video program on all the performers in the first couple of seasons. Spellbinding.
Swag For Life Member 10:33am Ralphine:

All I know is that whatsomever JB play, it's got to be FUNKY.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Wendy del Formaggio:

I'm having a horrible memory of a horrible sitcom from early childhood based on this song. Or was it a movie? Anyway, I remember it being horrible. And it starred Jeannie from "I Dream Of..."
Avatar 10:41am Cecile:

It was a sitcom and a movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am DCE:

yep, I remember it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Wendy del Formaggio:

It shoulda just stopped with the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am nickybones:

Single File is so erotic these days! Sexercise last week...Skinnydippin this...
Avatar 10:44am Joe McG:

@nicky: I've toned down the show for the mornings. Used to be worse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Wendy del Formaggio:

Nickybones, it IS spring. Goats and bunnies aren't the only ones getting in on the action these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am nickybones:

ha! awesome, Joe. <makes a note to dig through old archives>
  10:45am Ike:

Hope they didn't go skinny dipping in a Superfund river like the the Hudson of the 70s. If they did, they should be doing the mutant funk shuffle by now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am nickybones:

Very true, @Wendy...60 degrees in NYC...perfect skinnydippin weather

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am ChrisB.:

Should Montage be filed under "Chamber Pop," or "Sunshine Pop?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Wendy del Formaggio:

Joe McG, that picture is awesome. Considering my general opinion of the acting ability of Mr. Hanks, it works in a few different ways.
  10:55am Ick:

Temporarily, of course. Do that plus help repair the 3rd floor and get Ken's dog some anti-anxiety meds, you get a coupon for whatever timeslot u want in 2017. J/k I'll shush now
Avatar 10:55am Joe McG:

@ChrisB: I would say "Chamber Pop" or "Baroque Rock"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am DCE:

Back in time for the Brown trib. Speaking of Browns, that was a firebreathing JB track you played just shy of 10:30.

I wonder if it's Roy Wood's bar...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Greg from Bloomfield:

Hope the Brits like KHLAM.

Avatar 11:26am Joe McG:

Aw, thanks, burpage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am DCE:

so is Stories related in some way to Michael Brown?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Parq:

This is neat. I don't know any of these except for "Call You Up".
Avatar 11:35am Joe McG:

@DCE: Yeah, Stories was his second band. He made 2 LPs with them before leaving them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am coelacanth:

so,aside from not knowing Michael Brown was in stories, i've been completely ignorant to this band.
(...yet it's so obviously him!)
Avatar 11:36am Claw!:

This here song is right purty
Avatar 11:36am Joe McG:

I think so, too, Claw! Shame it never came out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am DCE:

yeah, I'm gonna have to look out for those Stories lps...!
Avatar 11:38am V Priceless:

great trib, Joe - did anyone ever tell you you rule?
Avatar 11:38am Joe McG:

@DCE: They're pretty easy to find and usually cheap. Not all gold, but some really great stuff on them, esp. if you're a fan of the Left Banke style, slightly updated to the 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am ChrisB.:

Wait a minute? Stories? "Brother Louie" Stories???
Avatar 11:39am Joe McG:

@ChrisB: That's them! Thanks, VP!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am coelacanth:

i only have "brother louie" on multi-artist comps, but i've heard the first album. overall i like Hot Chocolate more (at least "cicero park"), but Stories killed it! (in a good way!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Uncle Michael:

Hot Chocolate's original still beats Stories "Brother Louie" cover. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Carmichael:

Heya, Joe. Just now arriving to the big shoe. Yay on the Leftr Banke stuff, big Michael Brown fan here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Uncle Michael:

Great minds, coelacanth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am coelacanth:

Uncle M, i think they're really close...but i've never bought a Stories album!
Avatar 11:43am Roberto:

From what I recall, Michael pretty much tells all to Bob Brainen on that '03 appearance. Check out the archives for the full story!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Parq:

I kind of like "What Do You Know", the LB's attempt to go shitkicker. I think it's fun.
