Listener comments!

  12:12am ARVO:

Greetings. I returned from picking up my pizza outside in time to hear the thrilling intro/reel sounds.

I saw THE BEYOND at a midnight sccreening last weekend and thought of ya. I have to get more Fabio Frizzi, or at least the essentials. Have a good show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am the Master:

this is fantastic

Stroszek! www.youtube.com...
  12:18am JakeGould:

Waiting for a Pixar reimagining of “Stroszek.” Think about that for second… It’s doable.

We're imagining songs over here: "I'm Going to Wisconsin," sung by the whore, who is no longer a whore, but instead a cartoon "princess." ...
  12:26am dan in wisconsin:

I love how they see Wisconsin as some golden land of opportunity in this movie. Bruno probably could've gotten some brewery work I'm thinking. Wow, what a depressing ending though. I can see how Ian Curtis might've been in a shit frame of mind after viewing it. Or is that just a rumor that it's the last film he watched?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am sinister dexter:

you joking right jake? wow .....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am sinister dexter:

not funny
  12:29am JakeGould:

@sinisterdexter: No, I am not. There are tons of scenes that are pure comedy. And the end scenes with all of the animals in the arcade prancing around… In the Pixar version they could all go, “Hey! Where’s Bruno!” and they help him off of the ski lift… Also, the whole barbershop robbery is like a cartoon.

The old guy from “Up!” is just like the old guy. A parody trailer at least would be amazing.

ah ... nice
big joke huh?
kinda person i'd end up fighting
come over some time
lets talk
  12:34am JakeGould:

@sinisterdexter: Why are your panties in a bunch about a simple “Stroszek” parody as if it were a Pixar film? 2-3 minutes of that would be such an amazing thing…
Avatar 12:35am Ryab:

Will I appreciate your work with the playlist. Amazing

Got any songs about being fired by a boss who tries to steal your WFMU premium CDs and who is probably feasting upon the entrails of his other employees? Actually I'm alive, and nobody's feasting on my entrails, so what could be so bad? Hallelujah, praise Buddha.
  12:42am JakeGould:

@Ike: Sorry to hear about that. Remember these words: Sometimes it takes 3 months for a crappy boss to realize they screwed up and attempt to hire you back. So if you can afford 1 month off, chill and take it easy. Then just find a new gig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am sinister dexter:

praise Buddha!! and Satan!!
  12:48am JakeGould:

FWIW, what is Cinderella… Some crazy abused sister lives in a basement where her friends are vermin and she talks to them all day while making dresses for her pitiful siblings… Then the prince shows up…
  12:49am ARVO:

I could have mistaken the fella in the screenshot for the guy from The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, which I have seen. Anyhow, this Stroszek movie is interesting. The promo poster on imdb says its "Terrifically, spontaneously funny".

Prostitutes and alcoholics should have happy endings sometimes. Especially in Wisconsin.
  12:53am JakeGould:

All fairy tales have some darkness at the beginning even if they are cleaned up in the end. Most of the original fairy tales are just plain dark period.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am sinister dexter:

michigan here .... paradise 'round here ..... depends on who you are.... and when
  12:55am JakeGould:

So to me, “Stroszek” is just a fairy tale where this drunk, a prostitute and an old fart leave their home for the magical land of Wisconsin. It’s a dark fairy tale of what the western world is.
  12:55am ARVO:

mostly when...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am sinister dexter:

relative ..... you a scientist?
  12:58am ARVO:

I'm sorry Wm., I inadvertently reeled that subject back in. don't ruin it for me, at least without a spoiler alert.
  12:59am JakeGould:

To me, you know whenever I walk around my part of non-hippster Brooklyn and I see old hunched over Asian women carrying inhumanly sized bags of redeemable bottles/cans I think… It’s like I live in another dimension than these folks… Their American experience is just another planet compared to anyone else… And I am the first American born of Eastern European immigrants, so I know somewhat about how the “promise” America is not the same as the reality for most… But not on that level…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am ░ ℰ Ī Ҡ ░::

@Jake@12:42, not happening in this case. The guy is a vindictive maniac anyway. I'd be worried he'd decapitate me, pull out my spine, and play it like a fiddle for blinking or breathing in the wrong direction. But I'm alive, so I'm going to party. And by "party," I mean eat some chocolate and listen to WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am sinister dexter:

i got a real connection to Bruno ...... got a real connection to Wm. .... more death music!!!!
  1:00am JakeGould:

@Ike: Welp, here’s to living and learning!
  1:01am ARVO:

I do have to say, I'm surprised to see the first album by PIL being played, as opposed to the later stuff. I personally like the stuff that came after up until 1985 or so, and from there it gets more into the guilty pleasures department. I do want to say though, for those of you who listen to soul music, the label that reissued PIL also reissued Wendy Rene, a somewhat obscure soul singer who would be dead on the plane with the Bar-Kays if she didn't randomly decide to quit her career as a singer in the 70s. http://www.discogs.com/Wendy-Rene-After-Laughter-Comes-Tears-Complete-Stax-Volt-Singles-Rarities-1964-1965/master/417233

  1:07am ARVO:

Thanks Wm! I'm sober, and eating NY style pizza in Chicago with pineapples and sausage. Glad I could help, the inspiration was calling.

Ha ha Wm., sounds like you've got other distraction(s) in there too, never mind the playlist comments! (Genuine LOL.) We onanistic shut-ins (TM Bronwyn) can't possibly provide that level of, uh, stimulation w/our comments....
  1:11am Mike K.:

Hey Arvo ! fancy meeting you here.... Im listening to this show and watching The Stooges April Fools Day Marathon (without sound)
  1:12am JakeGould:

FWIW, don’t blame us comment elves for your in-studio distractions. Also, it’s April Fools Day… Unless you are less than 15 years old, don’t prank people today…
  1:13am ARVO:

  1:14am Mike K.:

wheres my pedal!??
  1:16am ARVO:

At your mom's house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am Ike:

@Jake, as for pranks, I can guarantee Ken has something silly or insane in store for us at 9 a.m.
  1:17am Mike K.:

mom doesn't play pedals any more .
  1:18am ARVO:

Wm. I definitely appreciate and understand the idea of trying to get into a set while posting song titles and things. I never agreed to do it when I was still on the radio. I needed to get spaced out in order to have a set I liked, but you already played more tracks than I'd ever play in 6 hours, usually.
  1:21am JakeGould:

@Ike: Ken get’s a pass since he’s the “Wizard of Oz” of WFMU. But in life, I don’t like pranks past the age of 15. But will say this, my desire to get a pack of cigarette loads, go to a bar and setup someone’s cigarettes with one is pretty high.
  1:22am Mike K.:

show is great . but indulge me in a P16.d4 track maybe??
Avatar 1:33am kimgland:

Inquisicion= Secretly Serge Gainsbourg from beyond the grave. I can't shake it.
  1:36am ARVO:

In the original version of Cinderella, the evil step-sisters tried cutting off their heels to fit into the glass slippers, but couldn't do it.
  1:38am ARVO:

Ok, I'll be quiet so that Wm. can be distracted by other things.
  1:41am Mike K.:

Wow Arvo that's morbid.! yep , Disney ruins everything
  1:43am JakeGould:

@ARVO: Exactly my point. All these fairy tales are dark. So “Stroszek” is no different.
  1:46am ARVO:

  1:48am ARVO:

Movie seems like something Mel Brooks would write so far...
  1:50am JakeGould:

Mel Brooks or the Farrelly Brothers could really reimagine “Stroszek.”
  1:55am ARVO:

I have to be honest, I haven't been blown away by anything by Herzog. I have not traversed more than 7 of his movies, but 7 is a lot right? I respect the guy, I like to hear him talk. I have no idea what his damage is, but whatever it is, I can relate to a man who only dreams once a year or something. I've been there. it's serious business, the guy is blocking out something like a ten ton shadow, and I will continue to casually watch his peculiar little movies on occasion.
  2:03am Mike K.:

admittedly haven't seen many of his films yet, must investigate......
  2:06am ARVO:

  2:08am Mike K.:

Arvo doesn't smoke pot I think WB
Avatar 2:09am Wm.:

Re: PiL -I like it ALL, up to the "Bad Life" 12", and even Generic is not bad...I'm just now getting to that sorry.
Avatar 2:10am Wm.:

I recorded a woman's giggle for 10 hours; keeps me company at home, and that's what you hear here in the studio. I am not "lapping," not right at this moment, anyway.
  2:16am Mike K.:

PIL was always hit or miss for me. never a huge fan though. I think it s the voice. Lydon gets annoying for me. Like Biafra or Gen P. Org. . . it gets on my nerves after awhile. it susually the vocals that ruins a lot of music for me actually.
  2:17am ARVO:

I thought I was the only one who looped giggling. :-(
  2:18am JakeGould:

“I recorded a woman's giggle for 10 hours…” Oooo! Should loop that so my neighbors can hear that.
  2:23am ARVO:

I was trying to download 156 episodes of the Twilight Zone and it kicked me off the stream while Wm was talking. did someone say I was stoned? I would loop that. That's funny. I recently had a job interview where the woman absolutely would not believe that I was not high and could pass a drug test. She said "We do hair tests", and I said, you can do whatever you want with my hair, I'll be your gigolo."
  2:24am ARVO:

  2:25am ARVO:

about the gigolo part.
  2:29am ARVO:

Maybe I can help with more headlines:

Necrobutchery Werrwoulf Luciferion Lycanthropic Necrovulva Wisconsin

Do you like Helloween Wm?
  2:30am ARVO:

I posted that right before you said what you said!
  2:32am JakeGould:

Later folks. If my “Stroszek” Pixar film idea gets ripped off by some hipster doofus, please remember who came up with it first.
  2:33am ARVO:

I used to assemble jigsaw puzzle like joints that competed with the rolling papers that came with the Cheech & Chong record, not kidding, but that was before I was old enough to drink.
  2:45am Mike K.:

Ikubationskreise ?
  2:46am ARVO:

By the way, I looked at what you've ever played and I noticed Bohren & Der Club of Gore is missing. This is surprising! I thought you'd dig them unless maybe you heard they were on Mike Patton's label once and were turned off. But just an observation. Great show here, good times. *Pizza eating grin*. Have a good one. Don't put any thumbtacks on the mgr's office chair now. Today is the day that I mistakenly celebrate my birthday, so it was a pleasure to I guess kind of over indulge here... Thanks for having me....
Avatar 2:49am Wm.:
