Time for the waltz number already? Heya Dave.

Hey, Mr. Dave Mandl, stopping by to say hello and congratulate you on that Moondog piece for wire, excellent reading
Avatar 9:06pm

Hey folks.
@Carmichael: It's always waltz time!
@doca: Merci beaucoup.

Nothing like a decent accordion piece… Maybe a decent vibraphone piece but what do I know?
  9:07pm
doca:

Maybe a decent tuba solo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm
BLCKDGRD:

I'd like to request some Lou Donaldson please.
Avatar 9:10pm
Dave Mandl:

@doca: Many tuba solos are indecent.

The tuba is a nasty musical instrument
  9:11pm
JakeGould:

@doca: NO TUBA! One time I was in the Broadway-Lafayette street subway station and heard what sounded like a seal dying in the subway. It was a musician very sincerely trying to entertain commuters with his tuba playing. EVERYBODY covered their ears until he stopped. It was so sad and annoying. The guy could play well… But in a subway station with those acoustics? NO!

...sad trombone for sad tuba...
  9:14pm
doca:

@JakeGould: I felt sorry for the tuba player now, but he didn't made a wise choice playing in the subway. It was unaccompanied tuba really?
  9:16pm
JakeGould:

@doca: Yup. 100% just him and his tuba and a donation box. I guess the guy needed money, knew how to play tuba and decided, “Well, this is a good idea…” People did feel sorry for him because nobody told him to shut up or stop. But everyone was looking at each other in commiseration with ears covered. Ah, humanity.
  9:18pm
doca:

Let me ask you guys: that online ticket service WFMU uses for Monty Hall events, does it deliver physical tickets or just e-mails them? I'll be in NYC later this month and was eager to go to that Cambodian rock night
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm

I HAZ CHOCO BUNNY TO NOMZ... soonish, maybe
  9:20pm
Carmichael:

Ok, well how about a little sousaphone then?
  9:20pm
JakeGould:

@doca: Pretty sure the way Brown Paper Tickets works is via a “Will Call” list. So you buy the ticket(s), get on a list and then have to talk to someone who will have your name and info on a printed list.
  9:22pm
doca:

@JakeGould: thanks! I'm actually in Brazil, so delivering the tickets to me would be a problem, though I could talk to the friend I'll be staying with to help me on this.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm

Maybe it's a command, like 'Dog those 'faced Hermans!'
  9:27pm
doca:

@Ryab: Stan's show makes me kinda mad because of it
Avatar 9:27pm
Mary Wing:

Maybe there should be a "The" instead of a hyphen to a make it a statement: The Dog Faced Hermans. Dave, I'm suddenly wondering: why don't you use a music bed?
Avatar 9:28pm
Ryab:

Yeah mainly referring to Stan and Bill's shows.
  9:29pm
doca:

Bryce is another DJ who makes a very idiosyncratical use of the playlist, though I guess Bryce makes a very idyosincratic use of his life
Avatar 9:30pm
Ryab:

Well Bryce plays things that are about as obscure or even more so as the things Jonathan plays.
Avatar 9:31pm
Dave Mandl:

@Mary: I've never used bed music. I don't know, it feels like it's adding a layer between me and the listeners or something. I just don't like the way it feels (for myself).
Avatar 9:32pm
Ryab:

Like I feel like Bryce listens to UbuRadio a lot because whenever I tune in it reminds me of his show.

HollyT:

Heya, Dave, folks
Avatar 9:35pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey Holly.
  9:36pm
doca:

Yeah Bryce probably earns a record of strangest on a strange land. I was talking to a friend of mine who started listening to WFMU and she was talking about how she gets physically extenuated after an afternoon listening to Bryce and Kurt's shows. I thought it eas interesting, how music can be physically demanding on a body level even to the listener
  9:38pm
P-90:

Very nice first set Dave, by the way.
  9:38pm

I never feel like Dave needs bed music.

doca, i put a lot of belief into the music body thing. there are shows i prefer to listen depending on the day/ shift i'm working. thankfully dave is one of my "home base" djs
Avatar 9:40pm
Dave Mandl:

@cory: Thanks. It's a Sunday night thing, I guess.
Avatar 9:41pm
Ryab:

@doca: I feel like most music I play just casually at other peoples' houses pushes them to that point, But I get the same way after a while of listening to a lot of Bryce. Not heard a show Kurt's yet.
  9:41pm
JakeGould:

@doca: “I thought it eas interesting, how music can be physically demanding on a body level even to the listener.” Given the choice between music I might not agree with and my downstairs neighbors shouting matches, I choose music.
  9:41pm
HollyT:

Or maybe it's like, there was a family whose surname was Herman (i.e. Peewee), and a dog turned to face them, and it was translated from Russian or Czech or another Slavic language that doesn't use articles. In which, case, it is perfectly correct.
Avatar 9:42pm
cory:

@dave, it's the only night i know i have off
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
pacific standard simon:

The perfect bed music for World of Echo, aside from "none", which Dave actually prefers, would be a barely audible Ken Nordine record.
Avatar 9:44pm
Dave Mandl:

@Holly: That must be it.
Avatar 9:44pm
cory:

plus i know around the time of your next mic break my mojito comes home. and that adds all kinds of win
  9:45pm
JakeGould:

If I ever find that subway Tuba player again, maybe I’ll offer to take him out for lunch if I can just record him—and people’s reactions to him—in the subway. This was like 10 years ago, but who knows…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
pacific standard simon:

2%!
Avatar 9:47pm
Dave Mandl:

@pss: No denying that.
  9:48pm
doca:

@cory: yeah that body thing is not merely getting music as a soundtrack to certain patts of the day or certain days/certain weather. What I liked about her response was that it showed how much of listening is an active enterprise. Of course, there are as many types of listening as there is types of music
  9:50pm
doca:

@ryab: and yeah I could probably only dj on a party attended solely by WFMU listeners.
