im about to blend some tasty tomato pineapple juice for lunch. thats pretty close.

I'm with Liz--planting this weekend hopefully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Mike East:

we just repotted our tomato plant last night...she is growing nicely.
Avatar 12:30pm
d¢ pät:

I was saving seeds from one year to the next, had a whole system going but last year had bad results and got discouraged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
Mike East:

was just thinking about garlic this morning...can you just plant a clove of garlic and have it grow? is that a dumb question?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
Liz Berg:

I can only plant in containers, so last year I decided only small tomatoes (cherry/grape varieties) due to less than stellar results trying to grow larger fruit varieties. There's nothing like a plot of dirt in the ground!
Avatar 12:32pm
steve:

i just walked by the Greenpoint Expo Center and apparently there's a big hot sauce convention happening this weekend. i wonder if the place'll still smell like hot sauce for the record fair.
Avatar 12:32pm
doncaballero:

Well, this is interesting . . . I have not heard this Riley/Africa Express recording.
Avatar 12:33pm
d¢ pät:

same here, Liz. Oh for a plot...

@Mike East: yeah, just stick a clove in the ground.
Avatar 12:34pm

Well I've heard on WFMU like ten times!
  12:34pm

I'm sure those home grown tomatoes would go well in a sandwich.. when that time comes.

Listening in on a grotesquely overcrowded train from Dublin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Mike East:

me too, Liz. Mine is currently residing in a used yogurt quart. Not sure the variety, though I would guess tiny tomatoes. My daughter planted the seeds in school.
@dc pat - it'll be a pot, but I'm gonna do it...though we are currently out of garlic, of which I am ashamed.
Avatar 12:36pm
d¢ pät:

I grow a lot of green onions. Because you never need a bunch, just one or two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Mike East:

oh, that's a great idea too. is that the same deal? can you put the stem of a store bought scallion in the dirt and let it grow?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Liz Berg:

Don't know whether to blame the squirrels or a bad winter for my bulb failure this year... I employed a paw-deterring layer of cut up chicken-wire, so it might just be the crappy winter and crappy containers are to blame.
Avatar 12:44pm
d¢ pät:

Actually you should buy a pack of green onion seeds. They come up almost immediately and are so easy to grow. Start harvesting to thin. Keep going.
Avatar 12:45pm
d¢ pät:

I have to restock my dirt. It's just used up and full of disease. Don't know what to do with the old. OH, my neighbor has a giant dirt pile in the back. Great!
Avatar 12:45pm

Garlic is planted in the late fall. Ours are about 3 inches high now in Wisconsin.
