Cheri Pi: Already had our first warning in the county up her in Fort Wayne. Looks like you're on the same line. Expecting another in the next hour or so.

Oh man! Sun Ra! I was just playing Sun Ra on my school's station today....Great minds...

@Cheyenne, lil bit!
Avatar 3:17pm
Cheri Pi:

the tornado siren is right above my desk, I almost had a heartattack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
Stevel:

Not a fan of the sirens, as helpful as they can be. Probably because I grew up in Kansas City, Chicago area. Lots of experience heading downstairs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
Stevel:

This set if fitting the weather and my most Monday of Mondays. Actually, its a bunch better than both, which is nice.
Avatar 3:20pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

The Chicago tornado sirens are kind of like the WFMU version of normal sirens.
  3:20pm
Dean:

I'm hearing Vivabeat in this track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Polyus:

I was walking directly underneath a siren near my workplace when it went off - actually made me feel physically ill for a few minutes, in a way I can't quite describe.
  3:21pm

weird, i was thinking AuPairs 15"ago...
  3:21pm
herb.nyc:

...but in the Nanny sense. weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Stevel:

Polyus: Did you grow up in tornado country? Its an upsetting sound, especially when loud.
Avatar 3:22pm
d¢ pät:

well what the heck do they sound like?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Scott Williams:

I've got an air raid siren upstairs in my office, should I go get it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
Stevel:

Air-raid siren would cover it.
Avatar 3:23pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Scott: Yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm

Better to have it and not need it...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Polyus:

@stevel: we had occasional warnings in MI, but the sirens were a long way from my house. From up close,it's the most jarring sound I can think of. Way worse than "guitar player forgetting the amp is cranked when they start trying to figure out which pedal is malfunctioning".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Greg from Bloomfield:

I demand that you back announce the songs like Funkmaster Flex!

STREETS IS TALKIN' BOUT AU PAIRS <FWA FWA FWAAAAAA> <EXPLOSION SOUND>
Avatar 3:31pm
steve:

its always a party when you've got an airhorn. that or someone's driving by your window blasting hot 97.
Avatar 3:34pm
d¢ pät:

Guess they must sound like the current state of my Fender Twin. When I turn it on now, it squeals at full volume. Now THAT's jarring.
Avatar 3:35pm
d¢ pät:

gotta get that dang thing fixed..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm

That was beautiful

Always good to hear some Tim Buckley. Pretty song to help scare away the thunderstorm outside my window.
Avatar 3:37pm
Cheri Pi:

I first heard this song from This Mortal Coil
Avatar 🧩 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

In my home town, they'd blow the siren at the fire station siren every day at noon and 6PM. If conditions were right, we could hear it several miles out of town.
Avatar 3:38pm
KP:

Tim Buckley, ahhhhh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- there's no doubt I saw Tim do that on the Monkees 1st - 'cause they wanted him to.
Avatar 3:41pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

That Monkees episode introduced me to Tim when I was 11. Such a strangely bittersweet way to end a silly series. The Monkees also introduced me to Zappa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Parq:

There was that old Robert Klein bit about how civil defense drills had convinced everyone that the sirens meant a nuclear holocaust, and then they'd blow the sirens everyday at noon for lunch. Klein said that, as a kid, he used to second-guess what would happen if the Ruskies decided to bomb at noon.
Avatar 3:42pm
Claw!:

@Greg's 3:30 post - That's EXACTLY what I think of every time I hear an airhorn. Thanks for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Andrew Waterloo:

yah, we'd be totally screwed if we didn't duck and cover when the bomb fell.
Avatar 3:45pm
