Joe! Thank heavens for you... I woke up with "Voodoo" by Godsmack playing in my head, and I NEED you to help me get rid of it, or else I will surely die.
@Claw!: Ha ha.. I hadn't thought of that song since I was young when it came out. My bandmate randomly started playing the bass line from it the other day and singing it and I lost it. Was too funny.
Hey Joe, been groovin' on Glad Christmas Tide in the car just recently.
9:14am
Claw!:
Yeah, Marcel, a "friend" of mine was singing it to me yesterday and got it stuck in my head. I though it's be gone by this morning, but naw. I think I need to reevaluate her "friend standing."
I woke up with Auto Warfare by Brando's Island in my head. Not too bad. They caused me to do about an hours-worth of research into the island (atoll really) that Brando bought.
...Jazz Swings side-to-side. Great clip of Duke talking about you mustn't snap your fingers too on the beat - not cool... Rawk Rocks - a back & forth fist-pumping assertion. Metalheads stake out a space they anchor to & hammer it - every instrument is percussive...Punks are all over the place...
@Menfuss: Yes, I think she recorded other people's songs most of the time. These are words they found and asked new artists to put music to them. Sort of like the Billy Bragg/Wilco things or that Elvis Costello thing with Bob Dylan lyrics.
Cadence Night at Shapeshifter Lab tonight: http://live.shapeshifterlab.com/ You can stream for $3 if you're not near Brooklyn. A terrific line-up, including Steve Swell, Blaise Siwula et al.
Miss ole Freddy. Love the wiki : 'He became known for his rockabilly music and his cool persona as Eddie Con Los Shades. In 1958 he legally changed his name from Baldemar Huerta to Freddy Fender. He took Fender from the guitar and amplifier, and Freddy because the alliteration sounded good and would "sell better with Gringos!"
This song is so great, I have not been nice to it. Sorry, folks! @Brian: Great taste that man has. (We'll hear more Martin later in this set with other folks, I think....)
11:26am
Brendan:
I expected Martin to start singing about Lucky Charms
It says on the Wikipedia page that, in many versions of this song, the king is "led into the forest by a white hind." The 12-year-old in me is having *lots* of fun with that one.
