There was this brief period from the 1980s to the 1990s where you just said “Dr. Who” and everyone automatically knew you meant Tom Baker. Feh! Millennials!
	♥ 10:51pm Irene Trudel: Ah, that's too bad Jake! I was a HUGE fan of Tom Baker-era Doctor Who. But I really loved David Tennant in the role. I think he's a close second, in terms of the "nutter" factor. And the latest guy, Peter Capaldi, is pretty good too. What can I say, I'm a big "Whovian."

	11:35pm P-90: Hi all. I'm really crushed by Squire's passing. I'm that much of a fan of this band, I have a big, long history with them, and with Mr. Squire's music. The only bass guitar I own is just like his, because it had to be exactly that way. That kind of a fan.
	11:38pm JakeGould: Well, I think of “Yes” the same way I described “Dr. Who”… Some of the classic stuff I love, but not the whole catalogue. And another thing… your brownstone creature pic is just so fascinatingly beautiful. Good eye, Irene!
	♥ 11:39pm Irene Trudel: P-90, Squire had such a distinctive sound, and he was a really interesting player. That's one of the things I found so powerful about Close to the Edge.

	11:50pm P-90: @Irene: perhaps the simplest, most encompassing thing one can say about Squire's bass playing on arrangements like Close to the Edge is that his bass is like a section of an orchestra, like the horns or winds, that meshes with what the other instruments are doing as an integral part of the piece in that way, rather just working with the drums as a "rhythm section" in the more common way. His parts are also famously melodic in the way McCartney's and Entwhistle's are, but his are the most sublimely contrapuntal, if that makes sense.

But the thing I have found with most prog bands like Yes is that their first few releases are so amazing because—let’s face it—pretension of a lot of their concepts have been so well honed that the product is acceptable. By a prog band’s 3rd or 4th release, they don’t have enough time to refine their craft into art so it all becomes mindless noodling.
