Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22am ausmanx:

started life as a B-side. even the album's pretty expensive these days... funny, because you could get it for $2 in most charity shops over here till the Northern Soul folks discovered it...
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 7:30am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Sheila!
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 7:32am KRYPT:

Carrie from Shampoo was sick on my pal's T shirt, I think it was a Sonic Youth one, he never washed it, before or after.
Avatar 7:40am djsheilab:

@ausmanx Northern Soul scene....grrrrrrr! Don't get me started.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42am ausmanx:

i know. it was still cute back in the 80s when it was the kids on scooters racing around the all-nighters. now it's the twentysomething finance dicks trying to be cool
Avatar 7:54am djsheilab:

One more + the sadness begins!
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 7:58am Ken From Hyde Park:

The sadness songs will improve my life, so yay! (Not trying to imply that my life is sad, but that the sad songs are great to hear.)
Avatar 8:09am djsheilab:

So many melancholic beauties from PSB as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am Adrian in London:

Ah, Françoise… *stands on bridge, gazing into water below, sadly*
  8:21am sugarwolf:

I'm going to have to favorite so many songs from this show later
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 8:25am KRYPT:

Sophisticated Boo Hoo
  8:27am listener james from westwood:

The Alan Parsons Project was a huge favorite of my mother's, who herself is gone 2 years, and her brother, whom we lost waaaay too early to murder. She used to listen to this and other cuts of theirs afterward and just bawl. So this too hits me right in the feels.
  8:28am P-90:

Alan Parsons and Colin Blunstone, great match-up
Avatar 8:32am djsheilab:

@james from westwood My heart goes out to you. Thanks for sharing that with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am ausmanx:

not my favourite smiths album but "it's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be gentle and kind" is perhaps morrissey's best lyric...
  8:34am KP:

Thanks, Sheila
  8:34am KP:

Was wondering when the Smiths would show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46am Adrian in London:

"and that's called sad" Ha! That's such a great song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am Goyim in the AM:

That Shangra-Las song goes right up to the line dividing real tragedy and total cheese, threatens to cross it, and never does. Brilliant.
  8:48am listener james from westwood:

Some of these classic and less-heard girl-group songs are just grievously melancholy, both from the vocals and the arrangements. Wall of Sad.

@Sheila: Thanks very much. If we can't use music to tap into deep reserves of tears, then IDK what else we'd ever use. Works like nothing else. Hugely glad (even amid the sad music) you're on the schedule!
Avatar 8:49am bobdoesthings:

whoa I am awake.. unreal.. HI!
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2022 Swag For Life Member 8:55am Ken From Hyde Park:

I also recommend "My Soul's Got a Hole In It" by Howard Tate. Dave the Spazz played it once or twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am Adrian in London:

Can't believe I didn;t suggest anything from Paul Quinn's WIll I Ever Be Inside of You LP, it's a melancholy classic!
  8:58am P-90:

Thanks, Sheila B!
  8:59am Michelle:

Thanks, Sheila
Avatar 9:00am djsheilab:

Thank you all. That was a heavy one. Time for tea!
