Avatar 6:11am

Hello Cool John!
Avatar 6:11am

hahahaha Not entirely no. Tho it has sent me into the dark crevasses of the internet to find everything miss simone ever put down on tape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21am

Good mornin' Sheila B and Boom Boomers worldwide from (not so sunny) Glasgow :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22am

I'm up! That's what happens when you decide to reinvent yourself by opening a coffee shop in Brooklyn.
Avatar 6:23am

Good Morning where applicable.
Avatar 6:23am

J - you should have had a cup of coffee first
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24am

Good morning/evening Sheila and sophisticated boomerangs
Avatar 6:52am

i feel the need to correct the spelling of my righteous countrywoman Renee Geyer and to indicate that the song was from 1977...

Avatar 7:04am

@michelle It's called Crayons to Perfume. Every Wednesday at 7pm on the WFMU Ichiban Stream.
Avatar 7:06am

@jeezy Didn't you say you've just opened your own coffee shop? Perhaps I'm missing something...

Thanks. Now I only have to find that stream!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11am

Sophisticated update! Good afternoon from SUNNY Glasgow :)
Avatar 7:18am

Thanks for the correction @ausmanx. Wish I had an original of that record.

This show is too. Much. Fun. Hooked here in Pawtucket, Will J
Avatar 7:22am

started life as a B-side. even the album's pretty expensive these days... funny, because you could get it for $2 in most charity shops over here till the Northern Soul folks discovered it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30am
Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Sheila!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am

Carrie from Shampoo was sick on my pal's T shirt, I think it was a Sonic Youth one, he never washed it, before or after.
Avatar 7:40am

@ausmanx Northern Soul scene....grrrrrrr! Don't get me started.
Avatar 7:42am

i know. it was still cute back in the 80s when it was the kids on scooters racing around the all-nighters. now it's the twentysomething finance dicks trying to be cool
Avatar 7:54am

One more + the sadness begins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58am
Ken From Hyde Park:

The sadness songs will improve my life, so yay! (Not trying to imply that my life is sad, but that the sad songs are great to hear.)
Avatar 8:09am

So many melancholic beauties from PSB as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am
Adrian in London:

Ah, Françoise… *stands on bridge, gazing into water below, sadly*

I'm going to have to favorite so many songs from this show later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am

Sophisticated Boo Hoo
listener james from westwood:

The Alan Parsons Project was a huge favorite of my mother's, who herself is gone 2 years, and her brother, whom we lost waaaay too early to murder. She used to listen to this and other cuts of theirs afterward and just bawl. So this too hits me right in the feels.

Alan Parsons and Colin Blunstone, great match-up
Avatar 8:32am

@james from westwood My heart goes out to you. Thanks for sharing that with me.
Avatar 8:33am

not my favourite smiths album but "it's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes guts to be gentle and kind" is perhaps morrissey's best lyric...

Thanks, Sheila

Was wondering when the Smiths would show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46am
Adrian in London:

"and that's called sad" Ha! That's such a great song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am
Goyim in the AM:

That Shangra-Las song goes right up to the line dividing real tragedy and total cheese, threatens to cross it, and never does. Brilliant.
listener james from westwood:

Some of these classic and less-heard girl-group songs are just grievously melancholy, both from the vocals and the arrangements. Wall of Sad.

@Sheila: Thanks very much. If we can't use music to tap into deep reserves of tears, then IDK what else we'd ever use. Works like nothing else. Hugely glad (even amid the sad music) you're on the schedule!
Avatar 8:49am

whoa I am awake.. unreal.. HI!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I also recommend "My Soul's Got a Hole In It" by Howard Tate. Dave the Spazz played it once or twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am
Adrian in London:

Can't believe I didn;t suggest anything from Paul Quinn's WIll I Ever Be Inside of You LP, it's a melancholy classic!

Thanks, Sheila B!

Thanks, Sheila
Avatar 9:00am

Thank you all. That was a heavy one. Time for tea!
