Because Hershey bought the rights to produce their own version of some Cadbury products for the American market many years ago. They mostly LOOK the same too -- you have to check the back of the Fruit & Nut bar (etc.) to see the hidden evil Hershey byline.

The only thing better in Mono is WFAN
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Īke:

@Danne, you've hit on something there -- is the preference for mono all about nostalgia for how those songs sounded on AM radio?
Avatar 11:01pm
Monstrositor:

A lot of Beatles stereo mixes were just sloppy. Hearing all the rhythm tracks on one side with vocals and lead instruments haphazardly slapped across the other side and some stuff in the center bugs me.
Avatar 11:03pm
Monstrositor:

Plus, George Martin was deaf in one ear
  11:04pm
JakeGould:

FWIW, the rereleased some Sinatra tracks on “Nothing but the Best” the stereo is artificial and sounds weird. Especially if you then play those stereo tracks in mono like via an iPhone speaker.
Avatar 11:06pm
steve:

music from the 60s was largely mixed mastered etc for transistor radios and the actual inexpensive home listening setups in most homes in the 60s... so if you want to be nostalgic and/or hear things the way they were intended to be heard just getting a mono record won't cut it. you need a sound system or playback device from the period.
Avatar 11:07pm
Monstrositor:

@jake During the early days of stereo, some record companies, including Capitol, would create "duophonic" mixes by splitting the mono signal, boosting the bass in one channel and boosting the treble in the other
  11:08pm
JakeGould:

@Monstrositor: This Sinatra “Nothing but the Best” is from 2008.

You guys do a good job at this station. Dave Hill is so funny.
Avatar 11:13pm

@jake Then it could just be misguided attempts to remix or even just overprocess the old recordings to try to give the old recordings an updated sound. The Genesis box sets from around that same time suffered from some of that
