I tried pushing the play button extra vigorously, repeatedly, hoping I could make the show start earlier but it didn't work... BBL.

Yeah... talk about 'opposite' ends of the spectrum: He was Stan Ricker, inventor of 'helf-speed mastering', and co-creator of the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs

Enjoyed your last live show here - the Don Joyce show. My condolences. I only met Don a few times and corresponded sporadically over the years. But also a huge fan of his show. Been listening since I've been on the interwebs, even with dialup.

I think '99 was when I first started listening regularly. I used a plain old dial telephone to pipe sound with the earpiece of a headphone clamped to the mouthpiece. It sounded surprisingly good.

For many years, had dial up at home and broadband wasn't available in my area and was so expensive, so listened to lots of internet radio and archives while working in the office.

@PLU: High speed broadband on your desktop and in your pants! We have computers that you can stick in your pocket that can stream data faster than most average landline connections.

You're right, PLU, we take it for granted now.

yes, tapes of radio shows
I first heard WFMU on a cassette - Ken's Premium "The Happy Listener's Guide.." from the mid 90s

I was given the cassette in Berlin - a friend who'd been visiting his girlfriend who was a student in NY, and he'd heard the tape playing THROUGH THE WALL of a neighbour and went and knocked on their door

I used to tape internet radio while at work to listen to in my car and at home. I recently found a tape of streams of Weirdsville.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm

Irwin Chiusid has been playing music by an Australian outsider musician, Waterfall Person, that does something very similar...she's broken all her electronic keyboards in very interesting ways
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Rich in Washington:

Weirdsville, one of the first RealPlayer radio stations I regularly listened to in 99 or so.
  7:27pm
vince:

You all might be interested to know, they actually brought "It's All IN Your Head FM" here.. to VEGAS!! What a night it was!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm
ironybread:

I'm confident that the surviving members of Negativland will continue recording and touring as promised - from their live shows in the last few years, I know they've got a sweet agglomeration of new tunes/edit pieces that will kill you they're so good - "Like Cattle Act" and "Let's Melt the North Pole", to name just two
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Rich in Washington:

IAIYH is a pretty good show. Was there for Portland OR. Did you get blindfolds, Vince?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm

...well, "Like Cattle Act" is technically a really old one, but they've never released it officially
