Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm

"I Say a Little Prayer" came out when I was seven years old, and it had me thinking that if this is grownup music, adulthood might not be so bad after all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm

@fred: Why would I lie? I've known Pat for years, after all.

@MattBelow: The 1973 reissue of "The Monster Mash," which I bought with money I earned from a very brief job I had washing cars in a parking garage. (I lasted a week before I realized I was missing summer fun.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Gaylord Fields:

@MattAbove: What was yours? (I ask the same to all other commenters.)
  3:47pm

I think The Monster Mash may have been my first single too but I'm pretty sure my parents bought i... Oh, wait, It could have been the Banana Splits, ordered with cereal box tops.

My first cassette tape was Beatles 1967-1970.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
Gaylord Fields:

@MattBelow: Beatles 1962-1966 and Beatles 1967-1970 were the third and fourth albums I even bought! (Nos. 1 and 2 were a Beach Boys comp on Pickwick titled High Water and the BBs' Endless Summer, both mid-70s.)

The folk-rock era has so many chestnuts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm

To counterpoint, as of today, the most recent 45 I bought was Bobby Coleman's "(Baby) You Don't Have to Tell Me" — a song better known from the Walker Brothers' cover.
  4:07pm
Mike Sin:

On the road back to Jersey from a lil' vaca... Was receiving 45s as gifts very early on (most kids were in them thar days). The first 45 i chose with my "own" money while sitting at a record counter at a discount store? The Chi-Lites - "Have You Seen Her?" Brunswick label, IIRC. Still gots it.

@Ken fHP: done that, recommended (podcast catch-up time for me)...
@MikeSin: Yer wunna them FMU-Js could make another Vol. of Nuggets on demand it seems...I guess a playlist is a compilation & that's what you guys do !!...& the fill-in persons can store up good stuff like a Dark Horse...
...1st 45s were hand-me-downs (when older sibling had LP prob.?)- InnaGaddaDaVida in 1970 in 1st grade or something - maybe 'Crossroads' by Cream - both on yeller & white Atco label w/ trumpet...but 1st I bought - second-hand stores - geez who knows. Doubt I ever bought one new!, unlike LPs...many 45s were around & trickled down to me (youngest) - 'Run Joey Run' - great stuff like that late60s-early70s. Banana Splits EP, 'Hush' Deep Purple...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm

The Trems are on my list of bands with great singing drummers — see also: The Searchers.

When you get a chance, see (don't just listen to) the performance of the Doomsquad linked from the main page. They disabled comments on the Vimeo host page, so I figured I'd put something here.

They have a literally hypnotic quality, in that seeing along w hearing them makes me want to sleep, in a good way. If I had a baby, I'd want to take it to a performance of Doomsquad & dance hir to sleep. Just very soothing & friendly looking, especially the percussionist-flutist at stage R (audience L). Thanks to whoever put that video & link there.

Hey Marcel! That drink sounds good right about now!

@Listener Robert: Those Monty Hall vids are pretty neat! Stay tuned to that page to see more being uploaded as the shows roll on
  5:09pm
Listener Robert:

Thank you, MattB. I appreciate that things are collegial enough there that DJs don't mind advertising for other material during their own shows. Of course that can hardly be helped now that WFMU has so many streams & archives under their own station name, plus you guys are friends or colleagues of many others, some of whom have gotten your help, getting things out under other auspices.

Reg King = the greatest "unsung" singer of the '60s! I can scratch a divot in my head trying to figure out why The Action had so many great songs and no hits.

And then you follow it with my single favorite BBs song! @MattAbove, you are killin' it!
