Goin' Back indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Uncle Michael:

Nilsson wrote Rainmaiker with Bill Martin. You should hear Martin's solo stuff.

This is my favorite Byrds song because Crosby quit over it.

If I wasn't so lazy, @Rev Rabbit, I'd link to that Billy Corgan @ Disneyland pic...

MONEYBAG$:

Hey Amanda, have you listened to the Gilbert Gottfried podcast w/Mike?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I like the faster one better - after all, what The Byrds was for were adding driving Rawk drums & electricity to wistful Folk, manner of speaking...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Amanda:

@Nate, "Wild About My Lovin'" is an old blues song that several 60s artists picked up. I love the Spoonful's version too
  12:15pm
Nate K:

Cool. I don't think I know that one.

Anyone remember the Brinsley Schwarz phony publicity campaign.

Well, when *I* was in high school, this was the Go West track on the radio: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 12:33pm
Joe B:

Go West had a hit with We Close Our Eyes in the winter of 1985/1986. It is listed as only No. 41 on the Hot 100 but it was very big on MTV and was played a ton in various clubs
Avatar 12:34pm

Wiki says Go West had 3 top 40 singles in the US, including something called "Don't Look Down - The Sequel".

OH YEAH

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm

@KP: And, being on a 45, it's also Handier.

This brings to mind a much later recording by The Waybacks of Floyd Cramer's "Last Date." Well worth seeking.

yes, Gaylord, if have a FMU adapter available
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Gaylord Fields:

@KP: You mean you don't wear yours on a string around your neck as a talisman?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Gaylord Fields:

Which reminds me that the first time I heard Elvis sing "Won't you wear my ring around your neck?" I thought that either Elvis had sausage fingers or his gal had a pencil neck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
listener james from westwood:

@Gaylord: Ultimately, you were half right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
Amanda:

I'm glad that there's a WFMU 45 here in studio C now -- more hypnotic and swirly, esp. when paired with a 60s Capitol 45.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Gaylord Fields:

@listener james from westwood: Yes, Priscilla has been looking rather gaunt as of late.
  1:14pm
P-90:

If the esteemed Gaylord can "de-lurk" so will I, just to thank Amanda for another great show and to thank Moneybags for reminding me again about that Gottfried podcast with Mike N that I keep forgetting to listen to. (Is "de-lurking" similar to "un-cloaking" on Star Trek?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Jeff Golick:

Great set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm
listener james from westwood:

"Not 'It's Raining Men'"?!"
"Yeah, not no more it ain't."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Gaylord Fields:

Yay! Amanda's doing a Simpsons episode written by a high school friend of mine! That somehow makes me a Simpson, right?
  1:26pm
Nate K:

This episode definitely didn't register for me as a kid, but I've come to appreciate it on many levels through the years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Gaylord Fields:

He was a not particularly funny guy IRL who turned out to be a very funny writer (I mean "not funny" as in didn't have a jokey personality, as opposed to "unfunny." i.e., corny).

Little Marge is awesome.

@Gaylord, how cool! I do love that episode. Oh and I love that "It's Raining Men" is mentioned 3x but never played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm

That's because that sneaky Smithers drove off with the 45!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm

The Crispian St. Peters CD set is truly worthwhile!

the Crispin St. Peters comp is great for long drives.
Avatar 1:38pm
northguineahills:

I have no problem w/ the part of being in the plane once it's in motion, I have a big problem w/ the process of flying. Sleeping over night multiple times on the floor at the Atlanta airport, having flight's cancelled, and being stuck, having flights delayed so you miss the connecting flight, and the one time my flight was delayed 12 hours, so I ended up drinking the whole time w/ college kids, ran into a friend of mine I hadn't seen since HS, she was flying first class, and I went on board w/ her. She went to the bathroom, and the flight crew asked for my ticket, and noticed I wasn't flying first class, so they brought the cops to escort me off the plane. They interrogated me on the tarmac in a bus for an hour, and took my driver's license. Missed the flight, and had to buy a new ticket. Yeah, that's why I hate flying.
