Ciao efd and My Girl Kiki! Who played bass on this?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm

Not a pattern that recurs on that album, sadly, daveB!

cheri, as a matter of fact the disco dance party show will be NEXT WEEK! You heard (well, read) it here first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm

P-90, that is Gary Twigg playing the fretless bass, as it is listed.

I didn't really either, Loretta! I even had a shirt made up with those iron on letters that said "Disco Sucks" (that my Mom wouldn't let me wear), but I came around.

Cooh John:

Do I hear Brian Wilson being channeled?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
coelacanth:

Yes i think that was the only one, and now i think it's quite different than most of the carter-lewis songs.(which are much more Jan & Dean/beach boys-esque)

Hi Danne!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
efd:

Certainly an influence... John Carter talked about that a little when I interviewed him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
coelacanth:

(i can't hear the interview segments so much. i have to keep the volume very low here tonight- which would be frustrating for bass or rhythm-oriented music; but for this melodic stuff it's fortunately still enjoyable.)
  11:00pm
cheri:

efd, i came back just to say goodnight, and i wouldn't miss next weeks dance party for the world!

that second show sounds terrifying

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Uncle Michael:

With the Cubs 16 games over .500, it does not hang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
efd:

hi Uncle Michael! Maybe you remember, since it was your show where I first heard it - what IS the story with that "Silicon City" song??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Uncle Michael:

There's a story? Hmm...seems like there should be simply because it sounds like a more recent recording than other so-called Flowerpot Men or whatever releases. It's a Tony Burrows thing but I see you and I have it credited to different "artists." It's been a long time since I researched it.
  11:17pm
cheri:

well efd goodnight for real, but next week i'm going to feel like a dancing queen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
coelacanth:

...judging by a few different websites, i think it was recorded in 1981 to put on the b side of a reissue of "...san francisco".
(but again- vague!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Uncle Michael:

Is the let's go to SF on the a-side a different version than the flowerpot men version?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
efd:

the single I have credits it to Carter/Lewis - no mention of Burrows, though he could be on the record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
efd:

the a-side is "Let's go BACK to San Francisco," so yeah not the same as the original
Avatar 11:19pm
Danne D:

Sounds like a funky Yes :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Uncle Michael:

My guess is that I saw it was a b-side to LGTSF and assume that I was seeing a miscredit for the artist and thought since it was a Flowerpot release, the b-side was too. I assumed too much.

I see my mistake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Uncle Michael:

Odds are Burrows is on neither side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Santos L Halper:

Loving this fringe benefit. Bring it for your next battle with Clay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm

I'm generally trying to research the original release for something that may be on a comp. It's a risky proposal.

I'm more inclined to believe the CD liner notes that it was recorded and 1969 and unreleased, though I do think maybe some additional tracks/instruments were added before the single came out in '81.
