Hi Irene!

Hello!

One of my favorite albums. She is so wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Irene Trudel:

Hi Bronwyn and Jake! Agreed BB, this album by Linda is one of my top 5 all-time favorite albums.
Avatar 9:14pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

And this is one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums! (Number one is always The Piper at the Gates of Dawn)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Irene Trudel:

Mine too! It'll hopefully be a night of favorites, old and new.

axlotl:

came in after a dog walk to the bird-tweet; didn't remember leaving the stereo on. Tried to figure out what device was alarming until the guitar came in. Then recognized the tweeting and a hard day of anxiety slipped away.
  9:20pm
foofs:

The horrible live half of Ummabumma was recorded just up the road from me. I can see the church opposite the (former) nitespot from my bedroom window right now.
  9:20pm
flashback:

Hello everybody.
  9:22pm
flashback:

Irene , have you ever played careful with that axe ? Eugene?
  9:23pm
axlotl:

Bite your tongue, foofs, Astronomy Domine is divine on that record.
  9:26pm
foofs:

I'll admit it only got half a listen. One of those groups I have to re-examine every 10 years to find out if I like 'em yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
Irene Trudel:

fofs, I do happen to love that whole live Pink Floyd disc. flashback, I have played "Eugene" on air but not recently. Agreed, axlotl, I think that version surpasses the original.
  9:31pm
axlotl:

Irene: the two versions can live together happily in this same world :-)

Dust on the Nettles, what a great name for a British folk compilation.
  9:41pm
spanikopity:

when i was a child, ummagumma made me feel less alone, made me feel like someone else understood the world as i did. are you heading toward playing some art of flying???
  9:49pm
foofs:

OK, I'm sorry I had a swipe at a much-loved record. I wasn't being deadly serious.
Avatar 9:49pm
axlotl:

Irene: Just paused the show to listen to them both. You are correct. Did I miss anything?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm
Irene Trudel:

I might be persuaded to play AOF, spanikopity. foofs, no offense taken. Everyone's entitled to their opinion.
Avatar 9:56pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

YAY Robbie Basho! My favorite guitar player ever :) You're killing it tonight Irene!
  10:06pm
spanikopity:

thank you I.T. i was just eating nachos and there they were. AOF. why are they not more famous than U2? aren't they more genius?
  10:08pm
spanikopity:

i mean art of flying, not the nachos.

Um. Hi Irene. I'm late. Here for a bit. Hope your week was a wonderful one!
Avatar 10:09pm

I think your nachos are probably more genius than U2 spanikopity

Oh man. I missed the Dental assistant, Linda Perhacs. Dang it. And the irony of that is that I had a dental appointment today. But nobody sang to me there
Avatar 10:16pm
Van in DC:

I love Linda's "Intensity" song though.

I'm directing a production of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris which goes up in December, if it wasn't in Ithaca I would invite you all!

...linguistically, I gotta take everybody's word that he's terribly relevant - but my DNA responds anyhow...
Avatar 10:32pm

Always good to hear Brel and Scott in the same set, they are such a perfect pair!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm

...you ever get that feeling - uh-oh - here's another Artist that's going to be important to me & I'm gonna need to know all their stuff & everything? Like falling in love & committing? ....Scott Walker...
  10:40pm
jon:

the sound of the city sifting through trees sez paul simon. always good listening to your show irene
Avatar 10:40pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Scott is a funny one to commit to because his early and late work are so vastly different. But it's a very rewarding catalog all the same!
Avatar 10:41pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Oh and one of my favorite S&G songs!
Avatar 10:43pm

I saw Spanky in the revamped Mamas
  10:56pm
JakeGould:

Ahhh! 1960s fake olde timey songs! I love them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- so weird - the 20s & 30s were only 40 or 30 years from them...
  11:00pm
KP:

Also the gang's drummer John Seiter lived in my town out on LI. I spoke to him quite a bit. Spanky would come out there but I never saw her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Irene Trudel:

Wow, KP! that's a cool story. I've always liked Spanky's voice and thought she was a good fit the The Mamas & the Papas. And, yeah, Rev. Rabbit. These was this whole nostalgia movement in the 60's. Remember Winchester Cathedral or Bonnie & Clyde? I kinda liked it.
  11:09pm
JakeGould:

Dave Van Ronk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Granny Takes a Trip & Village Green & all this. They considered themselves so far passed it, but it still resonated. Roaring 20s & Swinging 60s...only 30 years between Robert Johnson & Hendrix. Scary. Used to see Little Rascals & Laurel & Hardy on TV...another Century altogether...
  11:10pm
KP:

A friend opened for the mamas
  11:11pm
JakeGould:

Ack! I forgot about ampersands and the comments in the app: Dave Van Ronk and The Hudson Dusters: 1960s nostalgia for a West Village gang that hung out around Hudson Street in the 1890s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm

@KP: - makes me think of reading Michelle Phillips autobio...; if you wanna be glad to be born to the completely unfamous...

Good ole Cash!!

I was recently watching this same clip on youtube! Love the song and their performance of it.
  11:28pm
KP:

It's amazing how my comments get cut off but in way that still makes sense
  11:32pm
KP:

RRN, what I was trying to say in cut off comment was my friend introduced me to Mackenzie. She was the other Mama. And she was the nicest kid you'd ever want to meet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@KP: I'm sure.
  11:36pm
KP:

I did read the Papa John book. Oh boy

I instantly thought SANDY!! then looked and it's a "Chrissie Quayle ". Wowzers. Very nice.....
Avatar 10:32am

Linda Perhacs' new album (last year) was apparently called

THE SOUL OF ALL NATURAL THINGS

....it has that wonderful "Intensity" song on it...
