dummy run might also be the thing people do in horror movies when they're looking behind them as they run, and run right into the thing they're running from
  7:08pm

@chris: Yeah, like the lady at the end of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Also the truck driver in that scene who really runs funny and then disappears… Where did that dummy run?

He may have a point: some posit that LSD relates to adrenaline - the fight or flight hormone - as it has such an effect as such a tiny dosage; when you are full of adrenaline because of fear or aggression, your pupils dilate so you can see better, blood goes to the brain so you can think fast - so perhaps adrenaline & enlightenment share traits of increased awareness, even chemically/biologically...

heard good reports
  7:41pm
Cliff:

Well adrenaline (aka epinephrine) is one of the catecholamine neurotransmitters (along with dopamine and phenethylamine), and LSD does contain a PEA backbone within its structure...it's also got similarity to tryptamine, which psilocybin from magic mushrooms is based on
  7:41pm
vince:

I was with a bunch of rather old people in the theatre... I'm sure the 'swirl' freaked them out a bit

I don’t know about the U.K., but in the U.S.A. if you take selfies with an iPad in a movie theater, one has the right to grab that iPad and smash it against a wall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I suppose since organic chemistry tends to be based on not that many elements, this sort of thing occurs - & is also responsible for so many side effects. The evolutionary angle here is interesting too...

  7:51pm

Yes, LSD is quite an interesting molecule because it has similarities to several different types of neurotransmitters.....A chemical analogue to it, LSA, is found naturally in morning glory seeds and was used by native Mexican cultures in religious ceremonies....it is also produced by ergot fungus growing on rye, and is suspected to be the cause of St. Elmo's poisoning outbreaks in Europe in the Middle Ages, and is speculated to have been the primary ingredient of the kykeon brew consumed during the Eleusinian Mystery initiations in Ancient Greece.

at the Wings movie everyone was mouthing the lyrics to all the songs but everyone was there ALONE so not singing, and evenly space in the empty seating. Apart from the bloke with the ipad who was in front of me

Which is why it only takes 300 micrograms of LSD to have you frying your face off for 12 hours. Not a whole lot of other chemicals out there that are that potent.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm

- the usual Scientific write-off is that drugs in nature are natural defense mechanisms (caffeine makes bugs spazz to death, for example) - but perhaps most of what we call human culture is a side-effect of a grain of something or rather out there...

you could say there's no psychedelia without a perceiver, since the word describes a state of perception. in that way, all psychedelia requires a biological entity... at the basest level, however, there's chemical reaction involved
