Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

Eyes and ears open! Howdy, Charlie and all!!
  12:03pm frenchee:

and clouds!
Avatar 12:04pm Michael:

Hiya Charlie and everyone.
  12:05pm testingwithfire:

I had the GTDS stream on, and it was funny how I knew exactly when the transition to Charlie's show occurred without even looking at the clock. Good day all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Parq:

Wow, Charlie, great photo. From your archives, or did someone else take that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm doctorjazz:

He all, wish I was busier doing nothing! Too much of something here, I'd ssy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Charlie:

hi everybody, thanks for starting the party without me ;)
Avatar 12:08pm Jeff:

I love the way Ferrante & Teicher did prepared-piano work which was in some ways pretty avant-garde, than sold lots of records of it as Easy Listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Charlie:

Jeff - agreed re: F&T prepared piano. They had a few great albums before descending into real ez listening schlock.
  12:11pm Gary:

Sweet Gal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Charlie:

hiya,
frenchee, Lewis, Uncle Michael, ndBob, james, Michael, twf, Parq, drJazz, Gary!
Avatar 12:12pm Jeff:

Yeah, their output is all over the place. I keep meaning to survey them more thoroughly than the chance few things I've picked up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Charlie:

Hey, Gary, I stole a song from your show this week for today's show :)
Avatar 12:12pm Carmichael:

Hiya Charlie and nothing-doers. Which bridge is that?
Avatar 12:13pm Jeff:

Play it forward.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm schmutz:

hi there Charlie and all!
  12:18pm frenchee:

It looks like the Williamsburg Bridge to me, @Carmichael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Charlie:

definietely the Williamsburg Bridge
  12:20pm frenchee:

This SUN song makes me feel GROOVY
  12:21pm jan:

Hi Charlie- great music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Charlie:

That is why the song is here, frenchee.
  12:26pm frenchee:

And now, MRS. MILLER. sigh of contentment here, Cholly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Parq:

Wikipedia: "Singing in an untrained, Mermanesque, vibrato-laden style, according to Irving Wallace, David Wallechinsky and Amy Wallace in The Book of Lists 2, Miller's voice was compared to the sound of 'roaches scurrying across a trash can lid'."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Charlie:

That's the perfect Mrs Miller song, as it's short, so if someone really hates her (and some do!), at least it's over soon.
Avatar 12:28pm Roberto:

I attempted to catch a Perseid a few weeks ago but they kept flaming out in the atmosphere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Parq:

Attn Ike: Dangling participle in original; I take no responsibility.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Charlie:

hi also,
Jeff (again), Carmichael, schmutz, jan, Roberto
  12:30pm frenchee:

wow, harsh....Wallechinskys! also, that is a dangler for days!
  12:33pm Laura L:

Hi Charlie, thanks for playing the unmistakable voice of Bob Dorough--is that song on an album?
Avatar 12:39pm ndbob:

maybe mine too Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

This is my virtual Playa. Burn, baby...burn.
Avatar 12:45pm Michael:

That's Anna Karina the actress, right? Just watched Bande à part very recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Charlie:

Yes, Michael, from the Godard film Pierrot le Fou
Avatar 12:46pm sugarwolf:

hi hi hi
Avatar 12:47pm Michael:

And Pierrot le Fou is on TCM sometime in September I noticed last night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Charlie:

Hi Laura --
Yes (I just updated the playlist), from "To Communicate" -- no idea if it's been re-ished. It's an odd album, mostly pop-rock covers. I love his voice too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm schmutz:

TCM is the one thing I miss on my limited cable. Miss those late night silent flicks too!
  12:52pm Laura L:

Thanks, Charlie! Will have a look for that. Got to see Mr. Dorough and Blossom Dearie do a few songs together one time maybe 18, 20 yrs. ago--it was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Charlie:

Hi sugarwolf!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Charlie:

I always try to catch a Godard film, if I can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Listener Scott:

Yer killing it today Charlie, on a day when I really need someone making wise musical decisions. Thx.
Avatar 12:55pm Carmichael:

I just saw a Roman Polanski flick with Catherine Deneuve, Repulsion. Very odd and unsettling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Gary:

Repulsion is an amazing film
Avatar 12:58pm Michael:

September 16: 6 Godard's. Starting with Breathless and ending with Alphaville:

Avatar 12:58pm Jeff:

Patty Waters wins for most dramatic read of "scratch my back again" I've ever heard.
Avatar 12:59pm Michael:

I remember being totally creeped out seeing Polansky's The Tenant at the Thalia way back when.
Avatar 12:59pm sugarwolf:

I saw Repulsion in South Kensington where it was set. It was interesting seeing shots of streets I had just been on.
Avatar 12:59pm Joe McG:

Ooh, a Randy Newman "Living Without You" block! Thanks, Charlie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Charlie:

Hi, Joe -- it's a small block, unlike the big "Baia" block that started the show.
Avatar 1:02pm Joe McG:

Any block to build with is a good block!
Avatar 1:03pm ndbob:

Yep - "Repulsion" is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Charlie:

hi Scott, gary (2),
Jeff - how true, sounds like flesh would be ripped off
  1:05pm frenchee:

man, it's the PLAINTIVE block is what it is. Hi Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Parq:

Not familiar with Deanna Storey. What a voice! Lovely song, too.
  1:06pm frenchee:

@Parq, I thought it was Karen....uh, she sings about her cats....Mantler? But a new one, Deanna.....
  1:08pm flash strap:

man, looks like I missed the Baias. Love "Baia"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Parq:

Frenchee: Karen Mantler, she of "I'm His Boss"? Kind of a brighter voice than Deanna's, a little more suited to the kind of whimsical music she (Karen) does.
Avatar 1:18pm Perri:

Hi all! Here on the Better Late than Missed It plan. (and have a newcomer listening here!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Charlie:

Hi Better Perri and Newcomer than Missed it.
Hello also FlashStrap!
  1:28pm flash strap:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Charlie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Charlie:

  1:47pm SeanG:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Parq:

Oh man, who was he referencing with that "One more time" -- was it Basie?
  1:48pm SeanG:

Howdy Charlie
  1:48pm SeanG:

yep Basie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Charlie:

yep, yep, Basie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm listener james from westwood:

Building maintenance is checking all the fuse boxes in the complex, and I had to shut down while they flicked all the switches. Annoying. At least I had the mobile app to keep the tunes flowing.
  1:50pm rf:

This is so good today. I must go back and catch the first sets in archive. thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Parq:

Yeah, I remember that Basie record pretty clearly, just wanted to make sure. What a nifty Chilton cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Charlie:

James: how dreary of building maintenance to interrupt our show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Charlie:

rf -- check back frequently ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the lovely noises, Charlie. I gots to be motivatin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Charlie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Parq:
