National Geographic has a very strict training program with all the wildlife they shoot. They capture them for up to a year before releasing them back into the wild to be filmed.

He's a silly question; Ken, why do you and Jonesy (f'instance) use the British spelling of "programme" as opposed to MAC who spells it American-style: "program"??

Jack:
I meant: "here's" a silly question...

I'll tune in later after my wife leaves- She doesn't like music playing in the background.
I saw "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" at the drive-in doing the most powerful electric Purple Owsley acid...so, yeah, I agree it's the best in the series.
I think he's gonna be at Ray's on 11th st...If it's still there!!!

My 8th grade English teacher got suspended for playing "the Vatican Rag" in class.

I got in trouble in high school french class for reciting "Auteuil Neuilly Passy" by Les Inconnus. I listened to the album over and over and memorized the song and did a great job, and she was mad because the lyrics are offensive. Excuse me for learning real french, lady.
I don't think there's any audio from it, but John Guare's play "The House of Blue Leaves" takes place during Pope Paul VI's visit to Shea Stadium. "The day that the Pope came to New York/It really was comical/The Pope wore a yarmulke."
Ken - I am sure you have seen this, but just in case you haven't:

Is it true what I heard that tickets to see the Pope in NY are being scalped for hundreds of thousands of dollars?
Sorry to bother everyone. While you know, I'm sure, how much I enjoy all your postings - I enjoy the way all of you write, and everything you write, I wonder if you would mind if I made just one little request for advice. I am wondering what gift I might consider giving a beloved thirteen year old boy for his birthday. His gorgeous face radiates goodness and I hope to bring him something special! Now, I know you are a little touchy about newcomers, and I hope you weren't offended. My postings are far from perfect, I know, and if you wish to criticize any of my errors, I won't mind in the least.
no offense taken. I like thinking up gifts.
I would suggest art or writing supplies, or maybe a homemade mix CD. Gift cards with a small gift are also nice. For example, if you get him a certificate for art supplies, put a tiny sketchbook with it. Anything relating to his interests will be really appreciated I'm sure.
Get him the WFMU cookbook! Or lunch box. That is, if he likes food. If he doesn't like food, get him the WFMU pen or something. And then in 8 years get him the WFMU shot glass!
I recently got a nice hoodie with a cell phone pocket and little holes in the cuffs you can hook your thumbs thru and make fingerless gloves. I'm 54 and love it. I think a kid would too.
Thank you, everyone. Some great suggestions! He is from a very multiculti semi religious family, so I want to be careful about offending his parents (mine). Ken, my drone supplier has recently crashed his entire inventory!!! True story!!!
my little nephews were pretty geeky about museums at that age. It can be natural history. Or maybe if the museum plays cool movies, you can get passes to them. I'm just throwing ideas out.
There was this Firefighting Museum in New Haven I used to love - you could dress up in fireman clothes and slide down poles and pretend to talk on radios. I wonder if it's still there.

A 13 year old boy wants one thing and one thing only. To be petted when it's over and told it's ok it happens to everybody the first few times you just have to keep doing it
@Golde, the game Go or iGo or Baduk is one of the oldest games but has more depth of strategy than Chess. A nice club set and a book on Go strategy is what I wish I would have gotten when I was a 13 year old boy. (I didn't discover the game until my 40's when it was too late).
Love Go!!! Not sure if spiderman double is going to be making an appearance on the roof this year, but if he does, I might ask him to present the gift. It's could be fun to go anonymous, for a change.
When I was in France on business, the folks there told me Carcassonne got its name when the queen rang a bell to warn people of an approaching army. Is that a true story?
He loves music too...You know that song Oh Yeah by Yello? Cracks up with his brother listening to that song over and over again! Would like to give him a fun recording!
