Listener comments!

  1:07pm Debwa:

Rex hope you feel better! Loving this Shorty Long selection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Circle the wagons! It's Circle Time! What happened to the fur-lined fallout shelter today? Is Rex redecorating or something?
  1:10pm JakeGould:

  1:13pm Mark R.:

Trying to keep the Fool's Paradise banner held high everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm fred:

@Ken: maybe he's gone hunting for more fur
  1:14pm Debwa:

A Tiger in the tank will do it Mark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Sounding good, Mark!
  1:17pm rnmr:

hey Rex, get well soon!
  1:20pm JakeGould:

This “Cuckoo” song is like… I can’t even… No… Stop…
Avatar 1:21pm steve:

heya Mark
  1:22pm Mike Sin:

On the road and listening in the car -- Sounds great!
  1:26pm JakeGould:

Nice, “Smoke Along The Track.”
  1:29pm Stan:

High School USA was recorded with 28 regional versions not per se US State based. Anyway in 1959 there were only 48 states I think. Be well.
Avatar 1:32pm Melissa Jean:

thanks for the James Carr! he's a big favorite of mine
Avatar 1:34pm Melissa Jean:

  1:34pm Steve Krinsky:

Little Willie John was the younger brother of Mable John, Mike Shelley's recent guest. He was a great R&B singer who first worked with Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams. He died in prison, in Walla Walla, WA; he was doing time for killing someone in a knife fight.
  1:35pm Mark R.:

I discovered James Carr long after the fact, Melissa. Yeah Steve, Willie John was a real badass, I guess.
  1:35pm miss Georgia peach:

Love Magic Sam!
  1:38pm testingwithfire:

Sam is magic indeed
Avatar 1:38pm Melissa Jean:

apparently if I'd known about James Carr in the mid 90s I could've seen him perform (friend of mine saw him in Boston round then). but I was still just lissenin to Dylan at that point.
  1:38pm JakeGould:

Oh… No… “Beep Beep!” No… No…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Goyim in the AM:

I don't think I've heard this song since I was 8, and I am old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My exhaustive, scientific research shows Alaska became the 49th state on 1/3/1959 and Hawaii became the 50th on 8/21/1959. Also found that today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Yeesh!
Avatar 1:41pm Melissa Jean:

Magic Sam Fans. say it fives times fast.
  1:42pm Stan:

Thank you for the history lesson Ken from Hyde Park or Jake from State Farm :)
  1:42pm Mark R.:

I tell ya, it's a sobriety test. And I failed.
Avatar 1:43pm Melissa Jean:

it's a tuffie ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Stan - Hey, no prob. Interesting that the 49-star flag was valid for barely seven months.
  1:48pm JakeGould:

Please do not talk like a pirate today. Anyone and everyone. Just say no.
Avatar 1:49pm Marc Francis:

HOT DAMN!!!! That John Lee Hooker song back to back with this Wanda Jackson one!!!
  1:51pm Mark R.:

Fret not Mr. Gould. Johnny Kidd is the closest anyone will come to talking like a pirate in this studio today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm fred:

@Ken: I'm so disappointed Talk Like A Pirate Day falls on a weekend: my lab tries to sell software to identify duplicate songs in labels' catalogs, and my boss relies on google translate. So he calls it "finding doubloons"
  1:57pm Stan:

This is a classic from Andy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The Nelson Riddle tune is Frank O'Toole's outro music on Monday mornings.
  2:03pm JakeGould:

@MarkR.: Phew!
  2:06pm JakeGould:

Too much monkey business! Yeah!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm fred:

Great to hear this Bo Diddley classic!
  2:10pm JakeGould:

Okay, okay, the Chuck Berry AND Bo Diddley AND Earl Hooker back to back washes away the “Cukoo” and “Beep Beep” so thanks Mr. DJ.
  2:18pm Pete:

No, no, no-- go back to playing that Lenny Bruce bit about the glue-sniffing kids...!

The world needs more Lenny Bruce.
Avatar 2:18pm Bob Slee:

i'm off...
hope to hear from you Rex next week...
  2:20pm Debwa:

I'm with you Pete.
  2:25pm miss Georgia peach:

Aw! It's like when cbsfm was great!
Avatar 2:46pm Bob Slee:

Please shut up !!! Mister programm-guide !!!!
  2:47pm JakeGould:

@BobSlee: You want he should talk like a pirate?
Avatar 2:48pm Bob Slee:

At least without sound...
Avatar 2:52pm Marc Francis:

Damn. That was a fantastic version of Hey Joe. Almost as good as the Stillroven version.
Avatar 2:57pm Bob Slee:

Ofcourse you have to go !!!
