I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I'd like to see more Westerns remade as Samurai films. This would make a good theme.

Avatar 6:02pm Mayuko:

Hi joe, yah I love that track! It is from this compilation which Noise and Syrup Jeff M introduce to us at the station - "All funds raised from purchases of this album will be donated to the International Rescue Committee to help support their work providing immediate assistance to refugees in Europe, including Greece, and to displaced people in Iraq, Yemen, and in other crisis zones around the world. " fabricarecords.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Gary:

Avatar 6:24pm Mayuko:

Does anyone know this guy? i.ytimg.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Gary:

I'm guessing that's not Curious George
Avatar 6:30pm Mayuko:

That's a monkey from Äffle und Pferdle but the thing is I don't know what Äffle und Pferdle is. I only know that it seems like from TV show in Germany. Wish I have German listeners right now!
  6:35pm joe!:

why god invented google: Äffle and Pferdle are two cartoon characters of the Südwestrundfunk (Southwest German Radio). They have been established in 1960 as so-called commercial separators between advertisement spots. The characters illustrate typical Swabian habits and speak the unique Swabian dialect. The Pferdle (horse) character relates to the emblem of the city of Stuttgart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm coelacanth:

ha! i haven't heard Tiny Tim in a long time, but i played a song of his on the jukebox last night at the bar. (by a friend's recommendation)
Avatar 6:38pm Mayuko:

oh! Thank you joe!! I googled it and only found German information!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm melinda:

Tuning in just in time for Tiny Tim!
Avatar 6:39pm Mayuko:

I guess something in the air is calling for Tiny Tim, coelacanth. I don't know why I decided to play this, but it came to me.
Avatar 6:39pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm listener james from westwood:

Video for this Petty track is a classic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Finally home from work! Someday, Mayuko, I'll tell you about the time I shared the stage with Tiny Tim!
  6:44pm joe!:

what an awesome change of pace this song is. nice choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Gary:

My GF had to explain to me the Alice in Wonderland connection to this Tom Petty track
Avatar 6:45pm Mayuko:

I love this Alice in Wonderland video so much!
Avatar 6:46pm Mayuko:

Wow I'd def love to hear about the Tiny Tim stage, Doug!
Avatar 6:47pm Joe McG:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm coelacanth:

i don't understand the connection. should i fish out my copy of alice in wonderland?
Avatar 6:48pm Mayuko:

Avatar 6:48pm Mayuko:

  6:50pm Ivan:

Great show Mayuko! (^o^)/
  6:52pm joe!:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

What Mayuko says is 100% true! Two more live radio shows follow Play Vertigo here on your 24-hour Drummer Stream. First up, it's GLOBAL GREASE WITH KIM SORISE (playlist = wfmu.org... ). And following Kim, it's the debut of IF YOU LOSE YOUR HORSE with Sam Segal (playlist = wfmu.org... ). Sam is on for three hours, taking your live music Monday all the way to midnight (ET)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I like the part of the video where they take a slice of cake out of her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm coelacanth:

Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Mayuko!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Gary:

Night, Mayuko, and thanks for the wonders!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm coelacanth:

...and now i see that Tom Petty song is not based on alice in wonderland; just the video is. i never saw that before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Carmichael:

Doug, a friend of mine shared the stage with Tiny Tim AND Mitch Ryder. Hi Mayuko, thanks for the Jandek and Daniel Johnston.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Enjoyed the show tonight. Have a good week.
Avatar 6:58pm Mayuko:

Thanks everyone! Have a great night! Stay tuned for Global Grease!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm coelacanth:

ps,Mayuko- i like the imagery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am Webhamster Henry:

Äffle und Pferdle are "little ape" and "Little Horse" who speak in Swabian (southwestern German dialect). They used to be on the TV stations in that part of Germany as bumpers between programs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Webhamster Henry:

TV at that time and place lumped commercials together and stuck these little animations in between them to keep your attention.
Avatar 6:56pm Flash Strap:

Listened to this one this morning over breakfast, loved it. I gotta catch Vertigo live one of these days, dammit
Avatar 9:16pm Mayuko:

Thanks for the info, Webham Henry! Wish I could understand the nuance of its using Swabian. Like it a lot nevertheless. And thanks for listening, Evan!! Not sure if this was breakfast kind of show, haha, but I'm happy you enjoyed it.
Avatar 1:09pm fred:

"Le tube de l'année" means "top hit of the year"
"Ma charette est malade, mon cheval est cassé" means "my cart is sick, my horse is broken"
That "Ze Pech'Nouz group" name looks like a joke about Brittany bumpkins, but I have no idea how tongue-in-cheek that was
Avatar 2:32pm fred:

Thanks again Mayuko! Some prime Jandek there, and I hadn't even thought about that Tom Petty track in 30 years but instantly remembered the video. And more thanks for playing Kyrgyz music; you should see that live, just hearing these komuz made me see the way they play. I think Brian Turner posted a great video of that on the now defunct blog, but it was mistakenly tagged as Tajik
Avatar 2:41pm fred:

Here's the video Brian once posted: www.youtube.com...
From what I've seen firsthand, it's actually pretty tame by Kyrgyz standards
Avatar 12:09am Mayuko:

fred, this video is so so so beautiful both musically/visually! These music really sound like music of horseback races - the rhythm of a galloping horse. I would love to know more about them and would love to see their Legend of Manas recitals too! And thank you for the translation - now I understand Peter Nelson was talking about this in his comment!
