Having just brushed up on this Ted Barron bloke, I see you're at the DeBartolo Center (not at the moment, presumably), a/k/a where I first saw "Dazed and Confused" in 1993 or '94. As for your dead air, you got nothing on me and the dead air I curated on the reg that same era @ WVFI.

@Bronwyn: All depends on where in LA. Sometimes there one wishes one were lonely.
  11:47pm
Dean:

Or did you mean Louisiana?
Avatar 11:48pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

No, I meant Los Angeles. I have no problem with LA really. It's just not New York, and WFMU isn't there.
  11:49pm
Dean:

No, it isn't there. But I'm in Berkeley, and in certain respects WFMU is here.
Avatar 11:50pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

i like that Dean.

And I have to laugh at Ted's decision to play this so soon after the Beach Boys ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
coelacanth:

...right after a Berry cover too. and i'm realising i have zero Chuck Berry 45s,though i love Berry; and i have the beach boys "cover" of this on 45,though i am VERY selective about my beach boys-to put it one way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
coelacanth:

...no coincidences.

You can’t not own Chuck Berry. You have to fix that.

Palisades Amusement Park history authority Vince Gargiola, whose book led to 1998 TV doc, gave another library talk right before your show. From which I'd pieced together that “Palisades Park” songwriter Chuck Barris, a Philadelphia native, worked backstage at then Philadelphia-based American Bandstand, on which Freddy Cannon appeared 100+ times, with label Swan Records also based in Philadelphia.

Here's the DVD clip of Freddy Cannon talking about the hit:
CHUCK BARRIS had called BERNIE BINNICK, he was looking for Dion, and he wanted to get this song to Dion, and Bernie asked him what the title of the song was and he said , “Amusement Park.” Bernie said, “Why don't you send it over, it's an uptempo fast song, I have an artist Freddy Cannon he does that kind of music, he doesn't do any ballads so that would be good, let's see what you have.” I think I did that song in about 3 to 5 takes, so it was quick. Well at 1 o'clock in the morning we were listening to the playbacks and everything, and BOB CREWE [Four Seasons member also very active in Philadelphia's record scene] said, “I gotta go out tonight and I gotta get a sound effects record.” And he went out in the middle of the night, I don't know where he went, to find this roller coaster thing that you hear in “Palisades Park,” and at 3 o'clock in the morning they kept the engineer there at Sigma Sound and came back, we all left, and he overdubbed this and put it in the tape and overdubbed this sound of the roller coaster ride – he knew what he wanted to hear.
