@GunnerB: Most likely the accident was Reagan era policies that denied that AIDS/HIV was a thing… Thus blood wasn’t tested that well when they didn’t know what AIDS/HIV was… Thus lost of donated blood out there had HIV in it… And thus even if you were hospitalized for a minor thing back in the 1980s, if you needed blood and they gave it to you, you then ran the risk of getting HIV tainted blood.
