Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Ken From Hyde Park:

"Under the Roofs of Paris" could be from Mantovani's or Ken Thorne's orchestras.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Daniel Blumin:

See if y'all can guess whose 7"s are being spun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Daniel Blumin:

Ken, it's from Rene Clair's Under the Roofs of Paris, but from a Melodiya single my fam brought from the USSR...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm coelacanth:

ah. and i almost said the birthday party was Sue's. i don't think it's yours Daniel; but then i'm not accustomed to you playing 45s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm coelacanth:

oh,this is way too complicated! how many choosing records- 4? 5?
i'm gonna fail pathetically!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I do believe The Birthday Party felt plagued by Goths attaching themselves to them cause of that song: 'the song you love to hear & we hate to play'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I picked my school because of its radio station too Daniel! I just did my funk show there a couple hours ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Cliff:

Hallo Blumin and all Bluminites out there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Also, loved the Sonic Youth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Īke:

Who knew Elmo the Muppet cold rock so hard? Is this because Sesame St. moved to HBO? You've gone too far this time, HBO! (Was I not listening closely enough to the end of that mic break?)
  9:56pm CMFL:

Rockin' out here by myself - Thanks, Daniel!!
  9:57pm Sue P:

Ike - all of the Muppets are closet rockers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm common:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Daniel Blumin:

Hola CMFL + Cliff!
  10:09pm Linda Lee:

fantastic sets! Von Lmo was a fave band back in the day. hearing them is amazing. thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Daniel Blumin:

Thanks. L Lee!!!!
  10:20pm Linda Lee:

speakin of mix tapes. i spent untold hours making mix tapes back then .. with artfully collaged covers! don't forget: no mp3 players. of course you mixed for yourself. & shared too. Some of mine traveled pretty far! strictly person to person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm coelacanth:

Thomas chose Bastards. Jeff chose Scud & Nomex.
...that's all i got.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm coelacanth:

oh man!
yeah,i'm not guessing again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm coelacanth:

i turn the radio off for that song.
  10:24pm ScottC:

The strippers from the Lusty Lady in San Francisco unionized a few years back...
  10:25pm Linda Lee:

@ScottC: good for them! brava!
  10:35pm ScottC:

Looks like they closed down last year. Too bad...
  10:36pm Linda Lee:

OH MY GOD! uptown top rankin!! wow.one of my very favorite singles ever! you guys have my number. songs i loved & haven't heard in decades. fabulous. you're takin me back to a truly amazing time in the city of New York.. late 70s early 80s. first reggae i heard was stuff like this. not bob marley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm coelacanth:

yes Linda (@10:20) i put a lot of time and thought into them; and if i didn't use a self-shot & printed photograph for the cover,i'd make a collage,as you did.
i wonder if any of them are still out there...but i did usually make a copy for myself too.
i have every tape ever made for me. (but then i still listen to and record with cassettes.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm coelacanth:

ink spots?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm coelacanth:

(i was brainwashed with the inkspots once!)
  10:40pm Linda Lee:

@coelacanth .. amazing that you still have those cassettes. .. i actually had some i made in the mid 80s come back to me recently .. pretty wild hearing them. like a little memory capsule. & the medium is so flimsy too!
  10:41pm Linda Lee:

.. you were brainwashed with the inkspots ... ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm coelacanth:

'must've been great to have them return. i suppose it wouldn't be quite the same for me- having copies of most of them the whole time.
  10:43pm Linda Lee:

there's an early talking heads song that pulled this come on guitar riff directly ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm coelacanth:

is this a 78 at 45rpm?!
  10:44pm Linda Lee:

i think it's a 45 at 33.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Yeah I was gonna say this sounds pretty different from the version I know. I like it!
  10:45pm Linda Lee:

thought it was another old reggae side at first .. ha
  10:45pm Sue P:

This is a 7" 45 on 33! Sound like Beefheart. ❤️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Bronwyn Bishop:

It reminds me of the creepy Springsteen single I bought that turned out to be messed up somehow so that it was really slow. It sounds kinda cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm coelacanth:

it doesn't sound remixed to me. it just sounds slow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Wow you're right Sue, it does sound like Beefheart! Now we know that Beefheart is just the Seeds at 33 ;)
  10:50pm Linda Lee:

@coelacanth .. yes pretty wild getting the tapes back. i'd forgotten all about them .. but as soon as i saw them i remembered making them very clearly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I played this during my very first radio show at school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Daniel Blumin:

Guyses, thanks to those of ye who have contributed to the Crunch Time silent fundraisah! If you are waiting to drop ducats of love on USS WFMU, please wait no more! The Singles Going Roundtable calls on you to give great and small to support freeform programming through the lean cold months!
  10:53pm Linda Lee:

Thank YOU for the reminder DB! alas it's hellish pledging on dialup .. i'm mailing it in.
  10:54pm Linda Lee:

another all time fave band. bongwater. the great ann magnuson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Yay Monkees covers!
  10:56pm Linda Lee:

this was monkees? thought it was just stone pony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Michael Nesmith wrote it.
  10:58pm Linda Lee:

aha! shows you what i know about the monkees .. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm coelacanth:

i never heard the monkees do it. what album is it on?
  11:00pm Sue P:

"The Porpoise Song" is from Head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I don't think Different Drum was recorded by the Monkees but Mike did play it briefly on the show at one point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm coelacanth:

i donated and i'm trying to credit a few different shows but the pledge page makes it an illogical, convoluted process; so i must wait for the transaction to show on my bank's site so i know what's going on.
(my guess is that you've got part of my pledge.)
  11:07pm marc15:

So is Sue King Arthur?
  11:09pm Linda Lee:

what's playing behind the djs tonight? i like the sounds.
  11:10pm ScottC:

I thought Carol King wrote "The Porpoise Song"...
  11:10pm marc15:

Was the character played by Roddy McDowell in Camelot a knight?
  11:11pm ScottC:

I like her version the best even though it's a really rough studio demo...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm coelacanth:

ha! i didn't catch that! (duh) "captain mix"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm ! I X Key !:

(I believe Gawain is pronounced like "GA-win" with the a like in "ransom".)
  11:17pm r i s k y:

Hey Daniel, Sue P and Mr. Mello
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Yeahhh Who
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Daniel Blumin:

Heya r i s k y!
  11:26pm Linda Lee:

thanks for the info.
  11:26pm Sue P:

I wish I was Merlin but I'm probably King Arthur.
Avatar 11:28pm JakeGhould:

I’m the stone the sword was stuck into.
  11:31pm Linda Lee:

i'm the half-eaten leg of mutton mouldering under the table itself.
  11:32pm Sue P:

"Different Drum" was written by Mike Nesmith but I think of the Stone Poneys as the definitive version.
Avatar 11:33pm JakeGhould:

@LindaLee: There you go!
  11:35pm Linda Lee:

@Jake, you're doing much better as the stone. you are nearly immortal.
  11:38pm Linda Lee:

.. while i .. a simple leg of mutton .. will exist as such only until i'm discovered by vermin.
Avatar 11:40pm JakeGhould:

@LindaLee: I’m a rock. I’m an island. Watch me gather moss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm coelacanth:

love this song.
love shocking blue.
Avatar 11:41pm JakeGhould:

This is one of my fave 45 shows from this current wave of 45 shows.
  11:41pm Linda Lee:

alas, you're not a rolling stone, Jake. nearly immortal though you may be.
  11:44pm Linda Lee:

agreed on the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Scott Williams:

wow, this d mode sounds like Mitch Froom's "Cafe Flesh" sdtk! great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Fantaz show tonight. Nothing like this on radio anywhere else. Thanks, DJs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm coelacanth:

queen had 3 REALLY good albums- then a lot of abominable horribleness.
  12:00am Linda Lee:

i remember nothing about queen outside the top 40.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am exiledinbk:

And Molly's Lips

Thanks Daniel,Sue,Thomas,Jeff,Jack!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am coelacanth:

Molly's lips? shocking blue? really?
Avatar 12:03am JakeGhould:

@coelacanth: Queen was fine until about “Hot Space.” “The Works” wasn’t so bad but it was quite poppy and the rest after that… Bleagh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am exiledinbk:

I believe so
Avatar 12:03am JakeGhould:

@coelacanth: Love Buzz.
Avatar 12:03am JakeGhould:
