Holy crow, this Pom Poms track is nice.
Avatar 3:40pm

Oh yesss! Thank you @Andrew. More to add to the sparkling new "rejection records" genre.

Morrissey has a few rejection songs - as you'd expect - e.g. I Don't Mind if You Forget Me with the line "Rejection is one thing but rejection by a fool is cruel"
Avatar 3:42pm

I love this song so much!

Sheila, Do you know a early 70s girl rock band called "Fanny"? Two Hawaian sisters- June and Jean Milligan who play electric guitar and bass, and a piano player named Nicki. Great original rock and roll. And others too.

Avatar 4:08pm

I had 2 of their records in the 90s but lost them (aaah!). I never knew they had a single. I think there may be another band called Fanny. My "Fanny" has June and Jean Milligan and I know you would love them. I cannot remember any song titles but will research and try to jog my memory. Thx!

I remember Fanny being kind of a boogie/blues type outfit, and their best songs could be covers (e.g. "Badge" by Cream and "Special Care" by Buffalo Springfield).

Utopian bliss

That Lesley Gore song was phenomenal.

Bonjour Sheila B. et Les Boomeres!

This Dawn song is awesome, too.
Avatar 4:21pm

That must be the other Fanny. This one was straight out garage rock, all girl, think The Runaways/Bangles/ with maybe a little San Francisco psychelic thrown in. Kind of like Tia Carrere's act in Wayne's World.

ooh that sax creepin in

Omg, I LOVE this Tony Hatch song. Love all that '60s production music. Anyone remember the cd comp called "Music For TV Dinners"? It had all the great Alan Hawkshaw stuff on it ("Girl In A Sports Car") and Laurie Johnson's "Chase That Car" from the Avengers? So great.
Avatar 4:30pm

You are stuck with me now. I look forward to joining this party all week!

@djsheilab: In 2013, I saw Lou Christie as the special guest star at the Palm Springs Follies (R.I.P.)! He put on a hell of a show, and I was happy to hear that he could still get that falsetto up there! I was too intimidated to go up to him afterward when he was hanging out in front of the theater. I was afraid I'd blurt out something gushy, like telling him that "Egyptian Shumba" is the greatest song ever recorded!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
listener james from westwood:

@SheilaB that Lou Christie story was adorable. Dug the track, too. The refrain reminded me of early Cher solo work for some reason. In a slightly lower register!
Avatar 4:43pm

@Monica That's a BIG compliment coming from you. I adore adore adore your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
listener james from westwood:

They interviewed Christie at the "Nomi Song" premiere; his extensive reply (and raves for Nomi) are among the DVD extras.

Egyptian Shumba? bah. Trapeze!
Avatar 4:47pm

Sorry my "Trapeze" copy was so beat. A surface noise special as Todd-O-Phonic-Todd would say!

one more Joe Simon comment -- another great 45 is 'just like yesterday' on the irral label. but it's a pricier Joe Simon 45.

I love that horn in the American Breed song. Nice album cover, too. Was just on the Brooklyn Bridge the other night.
Avatar 5:29pm

Peggy Lipton of the Mod Squad + Norma from Twin Peaks.

Wowed by Peggy Lipton. Cool song, pretty darn decent vocal performance, great production.

Really love your show - sticking around work longer than I have to just to listen!
